ALBANY—Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed a law Monday authorizing the release of state tax returns to a handful of congressional committees, opening a new avenue for Democrats to get their hands on some of President Donald Trump’s closely guarded finances.“Tax secrecy is paramount — the exception being for bonafide investigative and law enforcement purposes," Cuomo said in a release. "By amending the law enforcement exception in New York State tax code to include Congressional tax-related committees, this bill gives Congress the ability to fulfill its Constitutional responsibilities, strengthen our democratic system and ensure that no one is above the law."The law allows the state Department of Taxation and Finance

The NY law is not constitutional. States piggyback off Federal Taxes, so Federal filings are included with the State return. However, the State must comply with Federal laws protecting the privacy of those filings. The DOJ cannot be relied upon to defend Trump's tax privacy, so Trump will have to publicly shame them into doing their job, which won't work, as they have no shame, but it will force Barr to act.

These people never think the shoe will be on the other foot. There will come a day when they will rue this blatant attempt to "get" Trump. It will all come back to bite them and I would say that we should all be able to see Cuomo's tax returns as well as all the returns of all the state legislators in the state of NY since they seem to have no regard to other citizen's rights to privacy. The President is not above the law but neither should he be below the law so to speak. He should absolutely have the same rights as the rest of us and when that is no longer true then we are all at risk of the whim of these sleazy politicians who decide on vendettas for whatever reason.
