Fox News Channel's chief national correspondent Ed Henry announced Sunday morning that he would be taking a leave of absence from the network to donate a part of his liver to his sister. Henry's sister, Colleen, has been suffering from a degenerative liver disease. “It is my sincere hope that talking about this journey for myself and Colleen, who has been bravely battling degenerative liver disease over the last few years, will help bring some awareness for the over 113,000 people waiting at this time for lifesaving organs (about 13,000 of whom need a healthy liver)," Henry wrote in an op-ed for Fox News.

Wow! Great for Ed Henry. Such a dangerous operation for him to go through. His sister is blessed that he would give part of his liver for her. Very vascular and bloody organ and not meant to be split up! Hope all goes well for both and God bless

Not surprised. Ed Henry is a class act and a loving brother.

I missed Fox and Friends this morning, I was lucky enough to have breakfast with my daughter. But the short clip that was posted had me crying. I wish nothing but the best for Ed Henry and his sister.

I have always liked Ed Henry. Now I know another reason why. He is a good man.
We can give up parts of our liver. He should be fine and with prayers and surgical/medical skill, perhaps his sister will be as well.
Typically, the right lobe of the donor's liver is removed. During the surgery about 40 to 60 percent of the donor's liver is removed. The liver begins to regenerate almost immediately. Most of the regeneration occurs in the first two weeks after the surgery, followed by a slower phase of growth over the next year.
Donor does have pain for a week or so. More here:

My youngest brother had a double lung transplant and lasted less than 5 years due to multiple issues, including colon cancer. Transplants are a God send but they are very hard on the patient and the family. What my sister in law went through was unbelievable as she cared for him. I also lost a great boss / friend in the 90's before they started doing liver transplants from living donors. I admire what Ed Henry is doing and will send prayers along for Ed and his sister, and their families.

Best wishes.
I sure wish our other organs were as nicely self-regenerating.
That would be a trick to re-teach the human body.

The poor guy completely melted down . It was as heartbreaking as it was inspiring. He risks much, purely out of love. Godspeed, Ed. We are there with you and your sister in spirit and with prayer.

Many prayers for Ed and his sister. This is a loving and courageous thing to do. I pray they both do well and can rejoice in the Lord for His guiding hands and never ending love.

God bless Ed Henry. Living donations, voluntarily given, can be a Godsend.
Not so much other organ transplants, however. Of course many recipients and their families are grateful for them.
But there is terrible corruption in the organ transplant industry (and yes, it is an industry). Many frightened relatives of "donor" patients are pressured into allowing their loved ones' organs be "harvested."
Often this is done without objective evaluation of the donors' true prospects. For the "transplant team," the successful "harvesting" of the donors' organs is paramount; while the treatment of the donor (behind closed doors, of course) can be quite horrifying.

When Summer donated part of her liver to Lola, Lola wound up with Summer's husband, Kyle.
But that was on the Young and the Restless.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Catherine Herridge do the same for her infant son years ago? I seem to recall it was at a hospital in Pittsburgh. She has always been one of my favorite people on Fox.
Like other posters I too wish Ed and his sister success in this very serious surgery. He's another of my favorites.
