Hostage Rescue Mission: Entebbe,

On July 4th, 1976, as America celebrated its Bicentennial, four Israeli Air Force C-130 Hercules planes carrying over 100 Jewish passengers, twelve Air France flight personnel, and their Israeli rescuers landed safely at Ben Gurion Airport. The safe landing of civilians and commandos marked the end of a week-long, nightmarish drama that gripped all of Israel. The saga began on June 27, when a Paris-bound Air France commercial airliner took off from Tel-Aviv. The plane was scheduled for a stopover in Athens. Lax security at Athens International Airport enabled four terrorists with forged passports – two from the notorious West German Baader-Meinhof Gang and two

Comments:

Two--now three--excellent movies (one entitled Raid on Entebbe from 1977) were made about this intrepid rescue. Israeli hero Yoni Netanyahu gave his life taking back the hostages from the terrorists and the complicit Idi Amin.

Raid on Entebbe, 1976: 2 hours, 19 minutes (yes, the whole film): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IAWlGNA9hUQ This movie starred Charles Bronson, Peter Finch, Yaphet Kotto, and a young James Woods. An Israeli film entitled Operation Thunderbolt was released the following year. It didn't take long, did it?

Yonatan Netanyahu, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's older brother, was the only IDF fatality during the operation. Trusting Wikipedia here. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yonatan_Netanyahu

The nation of Israel is in a fight for it's survival. Not helped by foolish lefty Jews here who vote Democrat. The last defenders of Israel will be the Christian right. As a Christian, the Jewish faith is our heritage and I will and should defend them.

They did a great job of planning and execution, but frankly this has God written all over it. Moses, King Hezekiah, Mordecai and Netanyahu are probably all up in heaven testifying about their miraculous events.

The rescue certainly was audacious and this comment is not meant to take anything away from it. The rescue of prisoners from the Japanese prison camp at Cabanatuan in the Philippines in WWII is also worth remembering. The movie "The Great Raid" is excellent and depicts the heroism of the Army Rangers and Philippine Scouts and guerillas who conducted a brilliant rescue.

"Operation Thunderbolt" with Klaus Kinski was the most realistic film of a military raid, until "Blackhawk Down" was made. It captured the sheer brilliance of Israeli Commandos to design a complex raid quickly with little on the ground intel, and also showed the guts of political leaders to put them in the air on the way to Entebbe with orders to continue should they cross the turn-back point before politicians called to scrub the mission. That placed the monkey on the politicians' backs without placing the military in a position where they could lose their combat edge "waiting for the word." It was sad that their only fatality that day was Benjamin Netanyahu's older brother. I was in Ranger School with an Israeli Commando Lieutenant who was the best land navigator anyone had ever seen. He must have had Lensatic Compasses in his eyes, he was that good. I salute the fine Israeli Commandos whose saying I've kept through many years, "Small armies fight best."

A tragic fire aboard a secret Russian nuclear 'mini-sub' in the Barents Sea that killed 14 senior sailors has refocused media attention on a little noticed flash point of the world: the Arctic. That an important Russian system was being tested or demonstrated was suggested by reports "that among the 14 dead were 7 senior navy captains and 2 'Heroes of Russia'." The presence of so many Russian navy worthies raises questions because brass do not typically twiddle dials on mini submarines but watch them being twiddled until something went horribly wrong. One may speculate endlessly on the true nature of the Russian experiment.

American Presidential Elections Are Too
Long and Destructive for the Country

American presidential elections have become a political clown show cum soap opera that goes on far too long and has become a true danger to the country in a variety of ways. On the simplest level, it used to be said that you could never get anything done in Congress in an election year. But now it's always an election year. No wonder nothing gets done. And that's only the half of it, the easy half. Those other old political watchwords — that partisanship ended at the water's edge — have gone out the window and are now headed for Alpha Centauri.

Anti-extremism researcher Eoin Lenihan struck a nerve when he published the results of a study showing the links between liberal news outlets and the violent thugs who organize under the name "antifa." After Lenihan published his report, antifa activists contacted his employers to get him fired and reported him on Twitter, succeeding in shutting down his Twitter account. A reporter with the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) has disputed part of Lenihan's story, as noted in an update below. Lenihan's story seems all the more important after Rose City Antifa in Portland beat up Quillette editor Andy Ngo, using milkshakes with quick-dry cement and landing him in the hospital

I wrote here about an attack by Antifa criminals on journalist Andy Ngo in Portland on Saturday. Ngo was hospitalized and had several thousand dollars worth of camera equipment destroyed. It turns out that at about the same time, in a different area of the Antifa rampage, Brownshirt thugs attacked and seriously injured two other men. Rather than re-tell the story, I will simply embed Michelle Malkin’s tweets, which include photographs of the victims: (Tweets) Michelle says that these two men were beaten by the fascist thugs because they tried to help a gay man who was being chased by Antifa.

Hints the already high level of political hostility were about to reach record intensity gathered like storm warnings in the press last week. Andy Ngo is a Portland-based journalist (for Quillette) who has made it his business to document the violence and insanity of Antifa in his city. Today they got him. They beat him up and stole his camera equipment. One gets the impression that Antifa rules Portland with the same impunity that the Ku Klux Klan ruled Birmingham in the 1960s. Do they actually have police in Portland? Do they have functioning government there? A reporter for the Portland Oregonian recorded some footage of those masked cowards attacking Ngo: [Video] Ted Wheeler is the mayor of Portland, a city where the violent far left gets to beat people up with impunity.

Jimmy Carter’s latest is at best delusional. It seems almost inconceivable that a former president would say something like this, but we live in a time when all norms have been abandoned by the Democratic Party: There is no doubt that the Russians did interfere in the election. By buying a tiny handful of Facebook ads that promoted Donald Trump, Bernie Sanders and Jill Stein, and attacked Marco Rubio and Hillary Clinton, and, allegedly, by phishing the DNC’s email system with the result that more people became aware of the obvious fact that the DNC had helped Hillary get the nomination.

It was only a few months ago that Democrats were dismissing the crisis at the border as manufactured by Trump, and now they’re comparing migrant detention centers to concentration camps and blaming Trump for “putting kids in cages.” But for those still trying to blame President Trump, Barack Obama’s former ICE chief, Thomas Homan, has a reality check for them. Speaking at a conference hosted by the Center for Immigration Studies, Homan explained that the “cages” Democrats are blaming on Trump were the product of the Obama administration: “I’ve been to that facility, where they talk about cages. Goldberg told Morning Edition‘s Steve Inskeep that Amash’s departure was “a sign of many of the symptoms he’s talking about,” including the increased partisanship of American politics — which, Goldberg argued, was ironically a result of the weakening of the traditional parties in the face of challenges by outsiders like Donald Trump and Sen. It was excellent. Even CNN, in a report to which Jim Acosta contributed, couldn’t find fault with anything Trump said, although it took the obligatory shots at the event itself. CNN acknowledged that Trump’s speech was not political, but rather “a message of national pride.” Unfortunately, the matter of national pride has become political. But there was nothing in the speech that anyone would have found objectionable before left-liberals rejected the notion of pride in America. There was nothing in the speech that any patriotic American rationally can find objectionable today. You have to dislike America to dislike what Trump said to the crowd on the Mall.
