A powerful earthquake with a preliminary 6.4 magnitude rocked Southern California on Thursday, marking the strongest earthquake in the region since 1999, officials said. "We will continue to have a lot of aftershocks," seismologist Dr. Lucy Jones warned at a news conference following the quake. A magnitude 5 aftershock is likely, Jones said. The Fourth of July quake, which struck at about 10:30 a.m. local time, was centered in a remote area near Searles Valley in the Mojave Desert, about 150 miles northeast of Los Angeles. In San Bernardino County, the quake broke water mains, downed power lines, cracked

So instead of complaining about Pres. Trump’s 4th of July celebration the Alphabet media will focus on the near miss earthquake in SoCal. Coincidence much? Hmmm ....

A friend in LA says he is fine, "it was more of a roller" and no damage to his place

The story is somewhat misleading. We had a quake on Easter Sunday 2010 that was 7.2 magnitude, but it was centered just south of the border in Baja, also a fairly remote location. The one today was long lasting but fairly gentle. Of course, I'm about 150 miles from the epicenter.

I felt it down here in San Juan Capistrano. We're 60 miles below LA so that would make us about 225 mile from the center.. It was a gentle roll for about 30 secs and no damage. I have lived here 39 yrs and this is the first time I've felt one that far away. I was on the computer and just kept doing searches. It was no big deal down here as I'm concerned.

The only one who was excited about this was seismologist and doomsayer Dr. Lucy Jones at Caltech, and these always make her orgasmic.

How long before it's blamed on global warming?

What #2 said. The quake started as a slow rolling sensation and I was waiting for a bang to occur like in 1994. But the quake stopped and there was no bang. Thank God! And comment by #8: you are so right. I saw here on Channel 5, KTLA, her eyes got all big and bright especially when she talked about "faults". I am just glad it wasn't bigger with a death or two, freeways collapsed and gas pipelines busted.

Many folks aren't accustomed to quakes. If you experience "slow rolling", the epicenter is many miles away. If it's closer (e. g., 20 miles or so), you're gonna feel the "bang" or sharp jolt, as well as possibly see some damage nearby. If it's even closer, well, good luck -- your house and nearby structures could suffer severe damage, or even collapse.

We were driving in San Diego so we felt nothing, and no one at our destination felt anything either. A friend nearby felt it at home, though. A big mess to clean up in Ridgecrest.

I wonder how the Hollywood crowd is going to blame the earthquake on Trump.

#3! I remember that one! Easter Sunday, my husband's 40th bday. We were in Long Beach, and my parents were visiting. Largest quake I've been in to-date. The most impressive quake I've ever felt was a 2.1, but the epicenter was a 1/4 mile from my home. It knocked my up out of my chair!

The crowd asking for California to secede from the rest of the U.S. may get their wish after the big one breaks off the "left" half of the state along the fault line.

Wife and I were at our respective computers in separate offices when suddenly, I felt my screen swerving to the right, then to the left, then my chair (I thought) was rolling away from my desk. I grabbed the desk, looked at the wall, thinking I was experiencing a stroke. I called out to the wife and asked if she was okay- thinking if she was, she could come to help me. She hollered back, "You mean except for the earthquake? Sure- I'm fine." Then I knew I wasn't having an ischemic attack, So, then we both laughed. Time was 10:33 am here. My neighbor called, frantic..."My pool! Something is wrong with my pool. The water is sloshing back and forth- it is making my house shake!" It was hilarious. I advised her we were having (had had) an earthquake. It only lasted about 10 seconds. But, it was very noticeable. I called my son and asked if he felt it, "Felt what?" No...as usual, he pays practically no attention to such things.

This shaker happened near Trona Pinnacles, where a number of SF shows and films shot scenes, including Planet of the Apes and Lost in Space. Good place for an earthquake!

I lived in Ridgecrest (China Lake) in the late eighties and early nineties. I was very young then, but I had no idea that we lived in an area so prone to earthquakes. I think they've had almost 4000 registered earthquakes since the 1930s.

God sent Gavin Newsome and Nancy Pelosi a "Gabrielgram" Thursday morning knowing that being awakened by a good shake-up might cause some righteous cranial activity. He stressed His point with several follow up reminders that this earth still belongs to Him and all the inhabitants there-upon should daily remember this fact.
The Post Script that accompanied the message hinted that He has stronger instructions should these not accomplish their intended results!
