Former HUD Secretary Julian Castro told ABC’s “This Week with George Stephanopolous” on Sunday that Americans already pay for the health care of illegal immigrants – “it’s called the emergency room.”
“Let’s talk of the debate Wednesday night. You did have a breakthrough performance. You talked a lot about wanting to decriminalize immigrants coming into the United States right now, make it a civil penalty. Again, you’ve drawn a lot of heat for that, also for the plans that all the Democrats said they wanted to give access to health care for undocumented immigrants,” Stephanopolous said.

The logic is so muddled here.
How come when I go to the emergency room, I have to pay even though I have excellent insurance. The government does not pay for my insurance, nor do they pay for the extraordinary charge if i have go to to the emergency room when the doctor is not in.
We pay for a lot of things for illegal aliens, and we shouldn't because they are illegal and are breaking our laws and raising our debt - which no one ever talks about.

This is why we should station ICE agents at all emergency rooms. Yeah, you can go to the emergency room for your health care, but you'll also be getting a ride back home.

I have a question for The Dims.
Please define “health care.”
Is it money for an internist for the illegal aliens? Does it cover hospitalization for tonsillectomy or tummy tuck? How ‘bout ye ole “Gender Reassignment”? Am I on the hook for that?
Abortion? Birth control? Little blue pills?
Breast augmentation? Oh, how about infertility treatments (unlikely necessary, but you never know)
I need answers while I weigh each candidate and before I vote in November.

So Castro (fitting name), if government "gives" medical care, can it also withhold care when they want someone to die? This is no different from Mexico and Central America, from where these people are fleeing.

People invading the borders of most other countries in the world would be facing machine guns, not free food at detention facilities about which they complain and "abuse" of children that they have dragged hundreds of miles through desert conditions. What the hell is wrong with this country?

And that's supposed to make it all right? We shouldn't be paying for any illegals. They need to go home.

This is so easy to see through and the result is YES we are. If you are sick in this country that has such abominable "health care" a doctor will provide treatment. If I am a Canadian tourist in New Orleans and somebody hits me with a beer bottle I will go get stitched up. As a Canadian tourist, I will pay the ER visit. So Castro's argument is that we're already paying out the nose and if we have free medical for illegal aliens it won't cost more???

An emergency room visit -- or emergency surgery to deal with an immediate threat to life and limb -- is a far cry from comprehensive "health care." We don't have the resources to provide comprehensive health care to people who are not legally here in the first place.
Rather than encourage illegal immigration, it would be better for the Federal government to pressure the governments of the countries these folks are coming from to stop with the corruption and misuse of funds, crack down on drug running, and treat their people as they should be treated -- with dignity and respect.
The home countries need to experience growth and improvement. All that needs to come from within those countries if it is to be effective. Charities (like churches) can help foster the growth and improvement. Where appropriate (important to note), even the U.S. government can foster the growth and improvement.
But America cannot solve the problems of Central and South American countries by taking everyone who shows up on our doorstep. LEGAL immigration is great. What is going on is absolutely ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous!

Emergency Room visits should be treated like 911 calls - and non-emergency cases turned away and/or perps prosecuted. Every ER should have a triage doc at the door to ascertain the "emergency nature" of the call. Coughing babies can easily be detoured to "Urgent Care" facilities, which will charge real money for the visit.

FTA: It's called the emergency room. People show up in the emergency room and they get care, as they should. ...
“And then third, it is the right thing to do. We're not going to let people living in this country die because they can't see a doctor. That's not who we are as Americans,” he said
I get it.. We are doing it, we are going to change it because it's the right thing to do, because that's not who we are as Americanos. I don't remember anyone pointing out about the ER during the DNC/MSNBC infomercials.
So, Mr. Trump's question is, do you want free health insurance or Free-dom?

#11 is correct, the reason they go to the emergency room is because you can not be denied medical care if you visit the emergency room.
However, this is a mis-use of funds and resources, and Castro and his fellow Democrats need to be called out on this point, as they don't offer a viable solution like pointing people with a cough and sniffles, even a broken arm, to the nearest urgent care facility, or clinic. And, maybe it would be a good idea to set up one of those types of facilities nearby every emergency room facility as this type of care would be far less expensive for taxpayers.

Remember from the debate, Castro is for open borders. He only wants civil penalties not criminal penalties for entering the US illegally.

But, if we deport them, we can stop that.
And the good news is that most big city ERs are overwhelmed with illegals and they get little service there.
And most normal people go to private clinics nowdays for their ER type treatments, although here in KS a lot of the suburban ERs still are working fine. From what I read, not so much in big cities in the sanctuary states.

My brother-in-law and sister-in-law use the emergency room like a Urgent Care. Sniffles? Emergency room. Flu like symptoms? Emergency room. I have no idea if they have insurance but it's stupid. Maybe it's a hispanic thing. I went to urgent care for a sore throat that wouldn't go away and couldn't find my insurance card when I checked in. The bill was under $100.00 I told the clerk I would have paid out of pocket anyway had I known that's all it cost.
