A woman who fell by a collapsed "wet floor" sign at Jack Casino was awarded $3 million this past week by a Hamilton County jury. Lynda Sadowski walked toward the sign, which lay flat on the floor, in September 2016. Customers had knocked it over, and a Jack employee walked around it but failed to pick it up moments before Sadowski tripped over it, according to her attorney Matt Nakajima.
Sadowski suffered a broken knee cap and metal hardware was placed in her knee. Her mobility has since worsened and she has arthritis at the fracture site, Nakajima said by email. A second surgery may be necessary.

Lawsuits like this are why I will probably never be able to do my civic duty and serve on a jury. I would have hung the jury, there's no way this woman would have gotten a dime.

In the photo from a security camera, it clearly shows the sign lying on the floor with the woman walking toward it. Now any normal person with eye sight can read the sign warning of a wet floor. She chose to ignore it, and walk over it. If she was injured because she ignored the warning, then that's her fault.

She was walking toward the sign and saw an employee not pick it up? She then tripped over it? I’m with #2 and I’ll bet that she “tripped” over it on purpose.

From the photo it looks like she was laser focused on the $3.95 prime rib buffet.

Served on a jury this spring. I was picked after 13 people were dismissed by the judge. They only asked me three questions and I knew I was in trouble.
I got picked to be on the jury. I wound up being the foreman.Woman suing the school district for a MVA which killed her husband (school bus vs motorcycle). Felt awful for everyone. No bad people here. Bus driver will live with it the rest of her life. Wife wanted 10 million dollars. We felt it was a money grab. No amount of money is going to bring him back. Didn't feel that she should get rich off of it. We ended up giving her $1.2 million. Sadly, she had turned down a $2 million offer from the school district and it went to trial. That was tough to find that out. Glad that I'm not eligible to be on jury duty for two years.
I'm glad I did it but I don't want to ever do it again.

A decent judge would have said, "watch where the hell you are going next time" but decent judges are about as rare as albino bats.

The judge should have ordered an eye check, first!

Ridiculous. Should have gotten hospital bills paid and maybe $40K for her 'pain and suffering'.
Totally, massively, stupidly out of proportion.

Our local news channel (WSB in Atlanta) runs back to back ambulance chasing lawyer ads. I think that's about all that finances their news program. I understand the economics....don't turn down good ad revenue but, geez, it's embarrassing. The ads are obviously aimed at low information people, especially blacks. They claim that they can get you a huge settlement that "you deserve" as they pitch it. Disgusting...really.

As a part-time janitor, I've always been paranoid about this happening. I have public liability insurance as an independent contractor but I still take extra precautions. If I've just mopped the floor in the public spaces, I will wait until it is completely dry before leaving the building. I want to make sure that no-one has slipped on it.

We had a driver rear ended a car, truly a minor accident, and his first in 34 years of driving. The old hag wanted $400,000 plus medical bills, she developed whiplash of course. She ended up with $65000. About $64000 too much in my opinion.

They just want the world to be a perfect place and they will sue and sue until they get it. And then they will sue some more.

So.. the 'wet floor' sign is not readable when it is flat on the floor?
I had jury duty over 20 years ago. He was convicted. I never knew I could be so persuasive. It felt good!

Jack’s Casino knows how to get it all back. Send the clumsy
fool a plane ticket first class to Vegas with limo and concierge
service. Of course a comped room when she gets to Jack’s,
free meals, drinks and great seats at the shows she wants to
see. She’ll even get a tutor to teach her how to play blackjack,
craps and roulette.
