An interesting thing happened in some Never Trump circles after the Democratic primary debates ended last Thursday night. While it won’t change the calculus of those we are about to discuss, it at least has them finally admitting the imperfect reality that drove the decision of many Trump voters in 2016.To preface, we need to establish exactly what group of Never Trump figures we are talking about here. There was a dramatic split in the Never Trump movement before the 2018 mid-term elections. While some Never Trump members realized that supporting Democrats to flex their opposition to Trump was a foolhardy move that did nothing to move the ball forward,

Did you know this? I didn’t…
I’ll also note that while Brooks makes claims of morality in his piece, he’s got a story much akin to the insufferable Charlie Sykes. Namely, he cheated on his wife and then married his researcher. Many of these people are not the best voices to make the moral case against Trump.
Don’t know who “Bonchie” is, but they do some interesting writing...

Interesting story, and I tend to agree with the basic premise, but IMO, I just wrote off his list of commentators years ago and I no longer care the slightest what sort of new stupidities they are doing and writing about.
IMO, Brooks and Stevens on their very best days, espousing their MOST conservative opinions, have so little in common with my views that I really just don't care about them any more at all.
These are people who IMO are actually Democrats, and have actually been Democrats for a very long time. They are not conservatives, and I cannot see that they EVER actually were conservatives.
I just ignore them, No matter how well thought out the discussion of their problems is, they are still a topic which no longer interests me.

Amen to that! Good article pointing out the obvious. These never trumpers are snobby elitist jerks. I do not understand why they do not just join all their buddies on the left. I guess if they all declared themselves lefites, ( which to me they are already), they would lose their spots as so called "conservatives" on all their cruises and TV guest spots.

Years ago, when I watched the weekly political round table shows on PBS, Brooks was the ubiquitous “conservative” on the panel. But others on the same panel were rabid Libs like E. J. Dionne and Dana Milbank and aparatchiks like dotty Peggy Noonan or Doris Kearns Whatshername… Brooks was really a moderate Dem all the time.

They can't bring themselves to admit they were wrong, so they'll recommend sitting out the 2020 election, or come up with some crazy justification for voting for the socialist/communist Dem nominee. I find it hard to believe these dunces still have an audience. Liberals don't read, and conservatives wrote them off years ago.

Writing articles as a Never Trumper, and actually voting as a Never Trumper are two different things. Just because one writes an article claiming Trump is Hitler and a Nazi, doesn't make it so. I suspect that if one is reading the New York Times, then one is already an anti-Trump voter, and doesn't need any convincing to vote for demosluts. Plus, as a writer, they are in no position to vote against bills that benefit Trump or the Republicans. Only those elected to office can do that. So rather then blame the writers, let's focus those in power that voted against anything Trump just because they didn't like him or his approach to doing business in the swamp.

#3 hits the bullseye.
These NeverTrumpers are "conservatives" in the same way that Stormy Daniels is an "actress."
They're all just whores who will say or do anything to maintain their elitist lifestyles.

"...there was a not insignificant contingent of the Never Trump movement which outright endorsed electing Democrats across the board, not just in 2018, but preemptively for 2020 also. It just so happened that many of these Never Trump figures also had the biggest platforms."
There is a ruling Uniparty with two divisions, the Pelosi Dems and the McConnell/Ryan-McCarthy GOPe. These two factions are locked in a WWE-worthy sham fight to the finish for the heart and soul of America. It's all boob bait.
The Uniparty sees PDT as an existential threat to their game, which Trump knows well as an outsider. The Uniparty, which turns that blind eye to one class of crooks, responded to the Trump threat using the Deep State, and later its own resources. Part of the Dump Trump effort has been those "moderate conservatives" with the biggest platforms.
In 2018 the GOPe failed to robustly campaign to protect its House majority...mainly to give the Dems their shot at Trump while GOPe keeps its hands clean. The goal was to drive him from office one way or another, and to neutralize his threat by tying him up with investigations, hearings, threats, rumors, charges, and whatever else. His family was fair game, as are his business, associates and allies.
This is far from over. The Uniparty and Deep State are not defeated. The propaganda arms of the GOPe continue to sow their discontent with PDT. Meanwhile, the political arm continues to do its quiet worst. Take Mitt...please. It's all passive aggressive political behavior to undermine Trump. Mitt is running for president...think about it. And he has plenty of behind-the-scenes support.

The Uniparty Never Trumpers expected us to be ruled by the elite (them), and they didn't care which party. They still don't. Trump is the non-union scab who hired into the shop and they must eliminate him. Problem is, when he leaves office he will almost certainly be replaced by one of them. He's been a one time good deal.

The key to understanding most all Never-Trumpers is: Follow the Money. Who funds them?
