California is poised to become the first state to pass a law banning workplace discrimination against black people for wearing natural hair styles. The bill dubbed the CROWN Act (Create a Respectful and Open Workplace for Natural Hair) passed California's Assembly on Thursday with a vote of 69-0.The bill previously passed California's state Senate in April, and now awaits signature from Governor Gavin Newsom, a Democrat. The new law would prohibit employers from firing or punishing employees for wearing 'protective hairstyles' such as 'braids, locks, and twists.'

What if the hair constitutes a safety hazard and the employee refuses to wear it under a hat, etc.?

Democrats just love love love them some "discrimination"! They love love love it so much they have to keep inventing new kinds, so that "discrimination" will never go out of style. What would the Democrat party do without "discrimination" to save people from?

NYC has one too. There is nothing natural about braiding or twisting, and it puts tremendous stress on hair and scalp. And there is nothing AA about dyeing brown or black hair blonde.
Is it too much to ask people who are in the workforce to have a neat, professional appearance and demeanor? I guess so.

I would guess many employers will get around it by not hiring them in the first place. I think it's a matter of safety, and cleanliness. I can't imagine what might be growing in that Hair! Corporations who have Sales Reps, or department Heads who travel to Vendors or go to meetings are not going to go with that Rule. GM or Ford or any organization who want their Reps to be clean shaven, in Suit and Ties, and yes, short hair cuts are not going to send a person out that has Dreds or something similar. Not going to happen! I know a young College Grad, with a Masters who is married and a father who can't move up the Ladder because he doesn't present himself well at interviews. He and his wife don't believe in pressed clothes, they wear it the way it comes out of the dryer. He has huge, wild, bushy hair and full Beard. He's very smart, but companies are going to hire the guy who has the same Resume, but LOOKS like a Businessman. So far employers are not forced to hire the guy who looks like a Hippie! Wonder when they will rule he is being discriminated against!!

WhooHoo, I guess I don't have to shave anymore!
Who's counting the days before this is amended to include nose rings, tattoo's, ear gauges, low slung pants, and natural body odor? The list is endless.

The answer to all this, of course, is for everyone to just wear a burkha. That way, nobody would know or care what's underneath and alleged discrimination and identity politics would end immediately.
Oh, wait...

Good, sanitary grooming used to be taught in grade school. Now, it a freak show, with who knows what living in some of that hair! I have turned around and left a restaurant before, when I saw some hair that killed my appetite!

Here in FL, food service workers have to ear hair nets and even beard nets. It makes good sense. Having someone's dreadlock follicles in my food is sickening.

Many black women I see in my job (medical) are bald from these styles. They wear these gigantic wigs that look like some sort of mutant braided carpet that weigh ten pounds. Look unsanitary to me.

They are NOT 'their natural hair styles', that is totally bogus.

Poster #1 asks the question of the day. Does this bill give exemptions for possible safety hazards from having such extravagant hair? Unless it can be worn under a safety hat of some kind, then the hair needs reasonable restrictions for safety. Now if it is an office, then as long as the hair is clean, I can see no problems with the braids. I think some of the creative braids are quite attractive actually. Would rather see the control of braids than the flyaway uncontrolled Afro.
To some who wonder what is natural about them, what is natural about the French Twist, a chignon, ponytails, a long braid or other hair stules we see on white women? What is natural about that? The biggest problem these folks have who do the tight braids is that they do indeed go bald in a big way on the front part of their head. Remember Melissa Harris Perry and her weekend show? She went bald at least 2-3 inches on the front of her head. So much so she was wearing wigs towards the end of her show.

What if you just purchased a nice seat in the movie theater and a black woman with a big Angela Davis style 'fro and her date with the Link Hays Mod Squad 'fro came and sat in front of you? You can't 'discriminate so you just get up an leave? With all the real problems to solve this is what California spends time doing?

Next up will be tattoos, since 90% of millennials have them. We quit going to a local restaurant because one of the waiters had grotesque tats all over his arms and many of the waitresses as well. It's unappetizing. The hair thing is just as bad. I don't care if it's white boys or blacks, those dredlocks always look filthy dirty, like carpet in a rat infested single-wide trailer house.

Way to go, CA. Keep it up. By the time the 'Progressives' are done with this, the list of particulars being protected against discrimination will be so massive that it will become obvious by negation that CA endorses discrimination against white, male, traditionalist Christians.

How is having great piles of orange polyester braided rope tied to your head "a natural hair style"?
They look ridiculous, and it is unsanitary since they appaently don't wash it.
