Climate change is threatening ancient Greek monuments, among them the Acropolis, one of the most-visited archaeological sites in the world, scientists said. Air pollution and acid rain are eroding marbles, while extreme weather phenomena such as droughts or torrential rains have led ancient walls and temples to develop structural problems. Even though the Acropolis hill, where the Parthenon stands, is probably Greece's best preserved archaeological site, there are signs that climate change has been increasingly affecting the monuments that stand on the hill. "The walls of the (ancient) city have more erosion than in the past," Maria Vlazaki, General Secretary
OK, add one more catastrophe to the list.

Climate change,.....the cause or fault of everything,...except when Donald Trump is the cause or fault.

I call BS. 40 years ago the Parthenon and other buildings were crumbling and the lament was air pollution, from diesel and other smoky exhausts (i'm not a techy)
This seems to be a stretch to get on the current global money grabbing bandwagon handout.

It would be interesting to know how much money the Greeks spend maintaining the monuments. I suspect it is less than they spend on Baklava!

The Turks and Venetians did far more damage to the Parthenon than acid rain. Send them the bill.

Ummmmmmmm ........ marble disolves with water over time. Regardless acid rain or pollution.
If you really want it to last, build it with granite. But nothing lasts like government benefits. /s/

Right. Global warming. We are having the coldest "spring" in New England that I can recall. Global warming alarmism should be ranked right up there with Nigerian email hucksters. What WOULD be a catastrophe is if we entered another ice age.

So the droughts and torrential rains that have occurred over the last 2500 years didn't do a thing to cause erosion? I visited the Acropolis in Athens during the summer of '80. Back then the Greeks were concerned over land errosion, crumbling marble, pollution and vandalism (noticed that little man made disaster wasn't mentioned in the article) and had guards to police the monuments. I seriouly oubt there is much intellectual fact to support the hysteria of this article. Just one more fake news effort.

There is nothing on earth that cannot be falsely associated with climate change. The climate does change every day every week every month every year. That's life on earth. Man can not influence the climate and weather. So quit the panic attacks and fear mongering. Go back to junior high school science class and learn how the Sun influences climate on planet Earth. Write me a 300-word report and turn it in Friday before the end of school. For extra credit write another essay on photosynthesis. Exactly what it is, how it works, and its benefit to the planet. Now get outta here.

Is it possible that Greece's economic model is so fraught with problems so as to make basic upkeep of national treasures difficult to achieve? In other words, doesn't socialism suck?

Too bad Percy Bysshe Shelley didn't know enough about climate change to work it into his famous poem, "Ozymandias." He could have written an entire saga about it rather than just a few measley lines!

A despicable attempt to conflate/equate air pollution with climate change. Air pollution is real (diesel emissions, particulates, etc.). "Climate change" as the leftists define if (man-caused changes specifically caused by increased CO2 in the atmosphere) is fake. CO2 has zero effect on the erosion of monuments.
Give. It. Up.

The climate just changed in South Louisiana, again. It was in the 70's, then we had some high 90's and now it's in the 80's. Every week, every day, we get this darned climate change and scientists, with all the money thrown at them, still haven't done anything about it!

A pure lie.
Auto and factory created air pollution. 3rd world countries, which they are right on the edge of, don't take care of their cultural heritage and don't have the tight air pollution rules we have.
EVERYTHING is (fraudulently) laid on MMGW/CC.

I would say that 25 centuries is a darn good shelf life, let them fall. They will soon be destroyed by the muslims anyway because the koran does not approve of any civilization but their own.

By Climate Change, in this context, are you referring to the damage caused by the British when they were stealing every artifact anywhere that they could get their hands on?

Much of the damage to the monuments on the Acropolis is due to war, not so-called "climate change". The Parthenon, for instance, was a gunpowder storage facility or some such during the 1800's, the time when the Greeks rose up against the Ottoman Empire. Apparently much of the stock went up and caused significant damage.
Maybe the "climate change" scientists need to stop looking for reasons to justify their existence. They've become an embarrassment.
