Maybe we really do have a Department of Justice that's serious about reforming itself. Attorney General William Barr deserves applause for this one. Here's the latest news, spotted on Conservative Treehouse: DOJ Appears to Block Manafort Transfer to Rikers Island… An interesting and moderately positive development in the ongoing fiasco surrounding the prosecution of Paul Manafort. According to the New York Times, Attorney General William Barr’s top deputy, Jeffrey Rosen, sent a letter to New York state prosecutors saying Main Justice was monitoring the planned transfer of Mr. Manafort. Following the DOJ letter, the decision to transfer Manafort to Rikers Island was reversed.

Comments:

The torturers are scared off by Barr.

The prosecution could have administered justice and given Paul Manafort total immunity to testify against the Podesta group.

If they are scared off by a firmly worded letter from Rosen at DOJ, makes me wonder what they are hiding that they don't want DOJ looking into? Good on the DOJ for intervening for Manafort.

I think the public needs to know who the prosecutors are who petitioned the court for this egregiously cruel and unusual handling, and how the judge is that approved this request, when it is entirely obvious that there is absolutely no reasonable basis for such astonishingly harsh treatment of an elderly person with no background of ever having committed a violent act for paperwork "crimes". This would put the Gestapo to shame, but obviously does not phase the Democrats one bit. Vile people.

We need to know the names of these KGB thugs working for the Manhattan attorney's office. They should be fired for this.

Time to find these Manhattan prosecutors, tar and feather them, and find out who they are taking their orders from and put them away...for a very very long time.

Sic 'em! That's the threat we read from Arturo Sarukhan, a former Mexican ambassador to the U.S. who wrote in an op-ed the Financial Times Sunday stating that while Mexico was "the adult in the room" for placating Trump over his threat to impose tariffs if Mexico doesn't halt the border surge of late, he wanted to see Mexico get a lot tougher on the U.S. over the agreement it made. Quite explicitly, he asked Mexico to use President Trump's domestic political opponents against him if Trump gets any tougher on Mexico for failing to keep up its end of the bargain, as the latter has vowed to do.

President Obama is living the life of a former king, vacationing these days at a palatial estate in the south of France. At what point has he made enough? Silly us for asking. Daily Mail has a report with a lot of photographs: Former US president Barack Obama and his family arrived in Avignon in the south of France for a week's holiday just days after they were pictured celebrating daughter Sasha's graduation from high school. The Obamas are reportedly staying at a luxurious 18th century farmhouse on Bathelasse island, near the Provencal city.

Joe Biden is testing a new campaign tactic in Iowa: Insult the voters as ignoramuses. Yeah, that’ll work. Like President Trump, I have my fingers crossed that Biden’s lead over the rest of the Democrats’ filed will continue and that he will secure the Democrats’ nomination. But time is not on our side because Biden can’t hide from the public enough to prevent him spewing a critical mass of stupid comments. The Great State of Iowa grabbed the national spotlight when Jimmy Carter managed to grab attention by winning the until-then-obscure Iowa Caucuses and parlaying that into sudden national prominence and the nomination and presidency. Ever since

It's too bad Democratic Party chairman Tom Perez didn't position all 24 Democratic Party candidates for president up on some luminously lighted stage and then called their names, one by one, in no particular order, to come on down and stand on one of the 20 elephant stools for the semi-finals, each contender grasping his or her face with both hands, mouths open with surprised joy. That how it happens with the Miss Universe pageant, and Democrats have pretty well adapted the same set-up, announcing their 20 semi-finalists for the Democratic Party's nomination from a pool of 24. Like Miss Universe, they, too, have allotted 20 spots.

In the wake of layoffs of more than 1,000 journalists from BuzzFeed, Verizon Media Group (owner of outlets like HuffPost) and Gannett earlier this year, #LearntoCode became a controversial phrase tweeted at and about those who lost their jobs. One side argued it was harassment. Twitter took this view, suspending accounts of those using the slogan. Another side contended the phrase was a sardonic expression of just deserts for a class of professionals unsympathetic to the loss of jobs in industries like coal mining, thanks to clean energy ideals. A month after these layoffs, Investor’s Business Daily quietly shuttered its own opinion section.

What is this thing called camp, and who can solve its mystery? In 1964, the 33-year-old American writer Susan Sontag, the high priestess of the New York intellectual world, published her iconic essay on “the sensibility, unmistakably modern, that goes by the name of ‘camp.’” Without precise or exact definition, camp indicates love of the unnatural, artifice, exaggeration, esoteric, something of a private code. Camp is discernable in objects, movies, clothes, furniture, popular songs, novels, buildings, and people. In people, the sensibility is markedly attenuated and strongly exaggerated, playful, anti-serious, attempts to be extraordinary.

Is there anything Joe Biden can't do? Joe Biden told an audience in Ottumwa, Iowa Tuesday that his White House would "cure" cancer should he beat President Trump in 2020. "I've worked so hard in my career, that I promise you, if I'm elected president you're gonna see single most important thing that changes America, we're gonna cure cancer," Biden said to applause. First he's teaching Detroit's illiterate single moms the easy-peasy art of computer coding, now he's promising to conquer cancer. Good thing we have Old Joe, otherwise cancer might never be cured. “What’s your pitch to the swing voter on the fence?” ABC’s George Stephanopoulos asked President Trump on Sunday. Questions of this sort are gifts to politicians, but interviewers ask them for a couple of reasons. One, they’re civic-minded. Politicians deserve the opportunity to make their cases straightforwardly — and voters deserve to hear them. Second, they save time. (Snip) Trump’s initial answer started off following the standard script. He got four words off that must have had his political advisors cheering, “Safety, security, great economy.” Ideally, this is where Trump should have stopped talking.
