Life outside the White House has been sweet for former President Barack Obama, with perhaps the most difficult thing being the one he does best: politics. Mr. Obama is navigating a landscape in which he must fit his obvious relish for the celebrity lifestyle with an unwritten code of conduct for past chief executives, a world that is his for the taking yet tradition dictates he do so incrementally. It’s a political scene where players may covet his endorsement or desire his invisibility. Mr. Obama enjoys tremendous post-presidential popularity within the Democratic Party’s rank and file, but he has not always

Comments:

For the rest of his days, Richard Nixon was more or less an untouchable after the Watergate opposition research scandal. Obama did much worse in scope and scale, and he's the toast of the global elite. The Justice Department etc seems OK with this.

The reason past Presidents have all these perks is because Harry Truman - when leaving the White House was in dire economic straits. Obviously, times have changed and so should their perks.

State law for decades has placed the director of Hennepin County's massive library system on the top shelf. Lawmakers decided nearly 40 years ago that Hennepin should be the state's only county where applicants for the top library job needed a master's degree in library and information science. But recent efforts to recruit a new Hennepin library director found the law resulted in a limited pool of candidates with little diversity.(Snip) Their concerns were based on the demands visited upon the head of a large government department who oversees 41 branch libraries, 835 employees and an $88 million budget.

New York — Mastercard will allow transgender people to use their chosen names on credit cards in an effort to combat discrimination at the cash register. That means that the name on the credit card owned by a transgender person could be different than that found on their birth certificate or driver’s license. It is up to the banks that issue the cards to actually implement the change and on Monday, Mastercard called on those banks to do so.

Hartford, Conn. — Three Connecticut girls who participate on high school track teams have filed a federal discrimination complaint against a statewide policy on transgender athletes, saying it has cost them top finishes in competitions and possibly college scholarships. The conservative Christian law firm Alliance Defending Freedom filed the complaint on behalf of the girls Monday with the U.S. Education Department’s Office for Civil Rights. It seeks an investigation and actions to make competitions fair. The Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference governs high school sports in the state. Politicians deserve the opportunity to make their cases straightforwardly — and voters deserve to hear them. Second, they save time.
