Democratic Presidential Candidate Bernie Sanders’ attempt to promote “democratic socialism” as a political platform recalls former Vice President Walter Mondale’s 1984 convention speech promise: “Mr. Reagan will raise taxes. And so will I. He won’t tell you. I just did.” A gift which my bosses at President Reagan’s re-election campaign accepted with undisguised glee. Especially when Fritz helpfully quantified his planned pocketbook raid, which our guys extrapolated to a $3,000 per-household hike. Game. Set. Match. For some inexplicable reason — perhaps tempting polls showing that 70% or more of Democrats find socialism attractive, or young gun Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s rock-star status — Crazy Uncle Bernie

70% of Democrats find socialism attractive because they comprise the bulk of those who pay no taxes. So they LOVE tax increases on those who do pay. And I hope somebody is recording Crazy Bernie's speeches about capitalists being "authoritarian". Who the heck is more authoritarian than socialists/communists/Democrats? It wasn't capitalists who forced me to: buy expensive dim light bulbs and low-flow toilets that you have to flush three times, who want to force our daughters to share bathrooms and locker rooms with men, and get rid of jets and cows, etc., etc.

Well, I did not need the excellent article by Bob Maistros to give me a heads up about this filthy old communist windbag, Bernie Sanders. I have seen foreign nations that use Communism. I have seen them slaughter their own people first hand. Absolute power over other people's lives is nothing but a murder permission slip. It all sounds so wonderful- "Free Everything!"- but then comes the price, which is abject slavery to a system of overseer the individual has absolutely no chance of stopping except at the sacrifice of the lives of the people who are enslaved. And so far, examples such as Venezuela and North Korea and Cuba, the "socialist" cult leaders seem to have a pretty unbreakable grip over their long-suffering people. Once you let the "Socialist/communist" dog in the house, he is damned hard to get rid of.

Not to worry. Once Bernie and the communist wannabes take all your money (remember, there is plenty of money in the US, it just happens to be in the wrong hands) you can wait all day for a loaf of bread in one of those government bread lines that Bernie seems to glorify.

So in the USA, IF we make Bernie the boss, we will all have FTA the “right” to a job, health care, education, “affordable housing,” “a clean environment” and “a secure retirement.” and no more ICE, no more legal immigration because all you need to do is show up here. So if we elect Bernie he will fix the world as long a all of humanity resides in the former USA. Good Grief.

Bernie and others like him don't think that the purpose of taxes is to pay for government, but to punish those who achieve more and accumulate more wealth.

Try to imagine this scenario. A once-wealthy nation spirals downward over the course of several years into a humanitarian crisis of epic proportions. Starvation and violence are rampant. The economy has collapsed. Millions have already fled. And all the while, an autocratic ruler acts with complete indifference, when he’s not trying to crush dissent and blame other countries for the misery he’s inflicting on his own. Under normal circumstances, there would be regular protests in Washington. Hollywood actors would be busy creating tear-jerker videos and making emotional award ceremony speeches. Musicians would be putting on global benefit concerts.

Much like Hillary Clinton feeling the need to reintroduce herself to voters multiple times, Bernie Sanders has decided to tell us again exactly what democratic socialism is. Maybe the need for so much explaining indicates that voters know what DemSoc is and want no part of it. Sanders, the nominally Democratic but realistically socialist senator from Vermont, made a speech Wednesday that the AP declared was “a strong defense of democratic socialism, the economic philosophy that has guided his political career.” It was “his most aggressive attempt yet to reframe the conversation about his political views.”

The Treasury Department reported a $208 billion deficit for the month of May — which is $61 billion higher than May 2018. To put that in perspective, the deficit for the entire year of 2007 was $161 billion. In the first eight months of the current fiscal year, red ink has already reached $738 billion. Even adjusting for inflation, the total annual federal deficit has exceeded that only six times in the nation’s history (five of them under President Obama). Not surprisingly, the Republican tax cuts are taking the blame for this year’s extraordinary deficits. But wait a minute.

Freshmen Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez wants Congress to give itself a $4,500 pay raise next year. That would boost her salary to $178,500. And that’s not counting the many perks members of Congress get, all courtesy of taxpayers. But even that isn’t enough for the self-described socialist. AOC scoffed that a 2.5% bump in pay was “not even like a raise.” Before that, she grumbled that her income was merely a “living wage.” She also complained in a tweet that if lawmakers don’t get a raise, it “makes campaign finance reform *harder.* ” And it “increases pressure on them to keep dark money loopholes open.” It makes one wonder if AOC understands

America’s tech giants have most certainly engaged in abusive practices. Demands that Washington break them up seem to grow by the day. Many of them are from brilliant people we respect and almost always agree with. That doesn’t make them right, though. Google, Facebook, Amazon, and others have just become too powerful, says the narrative. And it’s not just the political right, which is justified in being upset at Big Tech’s efforts to marginalize and silence it, that wants to use the nearly limitless power of the federal government to tame private businesses.

Lake Erie and Lake Superior — two of the five that make up the Great Lakes — broke records for water levels this May. Lakes Michigan and Huron could follow suit. Naturally, climate change is getting the blame. “We are undoubtedly observing the effects of a warming climate in the Great Lakes,” says Richard Rood, a University of Michigan climate scientist. But just a few years ago, climate scientists were insisting that a warming climate would cause water levels to decline. In 2008, Science Daily reported on a study that attributed the decline in Great Lakes water levels to global warming.

President Donald Trump’s latest win — using threats of escalating tariffs to stop the nation of Mexico from doubling as an express lane for illegal immigrants — takes me back to a political coup I participated in as a PR consultant in Austria. My client was the Alpine Republic’s environment minister, an up-and-coming member of the People’s (Conservative) Party, then junior partner to the Social Democrats in a grand coalition. The minister was in full-blown crisis when her implementation of a recycling mandate — requiring the separation of a stunning range of waste categories — produced overflowing bins in major cities.

The debate over the Trump Administration’s proposed citizenship question on the 2020 Census is heating up again. A federal judge in New York held a hearing on this question this week, and the U.S. Supreme Court will rule on this matter by month’s end. The Right seems tongue-tied on this issue amid the Left’s predictable and vile claims that this question is fueled by — what else? — racism. Kristen Clarke, president of the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, said the citizenship question is “nothing more than a pretext to carry out the Trump Administration’s racist agenda.”

When Bernie Sanders crashed Walmart’s shareholder meeting Wednesday and lectured executives on how they should run their business, CEO Doug McMillon should have laughed him out of the room for his ill-informed claims and for pushing a minimum wage hike that would hurt the very people it’s supposed to help. Instead, McMillon waved the white flag. He told the company’s owners that the current federal minimum wage is “too low” and that “it’s time for Congress to put a thoughtful plan in place to increase the minimum wage.” Let’s look at what Sanders claimed in his remarks.

Even while surrounded by military dictatorships and poverty, Venezuela at one time prospered with a strong economy and stable society. Today, three Latin American nations produce more oil than Venezuela, though it has the world’s largest proven reserves of crude, and just getting sick is nearly the same as death for some children. It has rightly been called the “biggest economic disaster in modern history.” “Hospital shortages,” says the headline of an Agence France-Presse story posted on Yahoo News in late May, are “a death sentence for Venezuelan children.” Half of the children who aren’t dying can’t get enough to eat.

Before climate change became a belief system in which humans are expected to perform penance for their sins against Gaia, recycling was the religion of many in the modern world. Those who didn’t reduce, reuse, and recycle were, and still are, considered heretics. Nearly a quarter century ago, John Tierney wrote in the New York Times Magazine that “Recycling Is Garbage.” In an article that produced the greatest volume of hate mail in the magazine’s history, Tierney said that rather than recycling, “the simplest and cheapest option is usually to bury garbage in an environmentally safe landfill.” With the exception of a few items — aluminum cans, cardboard, office paper

Democratic presidential candidate Beto O'Rourke took an unconventional approach to reaching out to African-American voters Friday, meeting with a small group representing a community of slave descendants in South Carolina and saying white Americans do not know the full story of slavery. O'Rourke spent Friday at a Baptist church in Beaufort, S.C., where the former Texas congressman met with leaders of the Gullah/Geechee Nation, a culture of coastal slave descendants whose separation from the mainland allowed them to retain much of their African heritage, including a unique dialect and skills such as cast-net fishing and basket weaving.

Um, capitalism by design is extractive and in order to generate profit in a capitalist system, something has to be exploited, that’s land, labor or resources And I think that we’re in late phase capitalism and we know it doesn’t work and we have to move into something new.
