A group of Jimmy Buffett-diehards from Oklahoma were sick as hell in paradise — the latest in an ever-growing list of tourists to be sickened during a jaunt to the Dominican Republic, a report said.
Dana Flowers, a travel agent who vacationed to Punta Cana with the Buffett-loving Central Oklahoma Parrothead Association, said that four days into their April trip, he and other members came down with a mysterious illness.

This is starting to look like organized crime.

I came across a story that mentioned actor Gerard Butler got seriously ill in DR about 6 months ago. Something has been going on for a while.

Why is it only Americans are getting sick there? Don't people from other countries vacation there?

Feeble reporting! Salmonella should be reported to the health department. Why doesn’t the reporter call other guests, the hotel and the local health office? Laziness? Or afraid the truth squelches a good juicy rumor?

It's probably just something the wind is blowing over from Haiti.

there is evidence that there is some criminal activity taking place there is also a reported problem with raw sewage being dumped near shore.

And what in the heck does being a Jimmy Buffet fan have to do with this story?
How about maybe adding that they are left handed, or played the piano when they were
a kid?
Seems pretty silly, and the story would be exaclty the same without the irrelevant
Buffet confusion factors.
Going to 3rd world countries......get 3rd world diseases and problems. Surprise!
(Not).
When I traveled in the former Soviet states, I took a LOT of extra vaccinations and
was pretty careful, esp with Moscow's water, pretty much guaranteed to make a traveler
become a close friend of the nearest toilet for days. I eventually got to where I could
tolerate Russian ice in a drink, but it took several years and many trips while carefully
avoiding any non-bottled water, any ice and more.
Folks really need to get over the "everyone is just like us" foolish views.

Something I thought of earlier on relations between the Dominican Republic and Haiti, with which they share the Island of Hispianola:
Relations have long been complex due to the substantial cultural differences between the two nations and their sharing the island of Hispaniola, part of the Greater Antilles archipelago in the Caribbean region. The living standards in the Dominican Republic are considerably higher than those in Haiti. The migration of impoverished Haitians and deep-set cultural differences have contributed to a long-standing conflict.
Could be political?

#9/10 - In college, I had a project where I worked with a Dominican Rep college student. We
had interesting discussions about her country. She said that DR had a really serious, tall, barbed
wire barrier to keep out the Hatians and it was clear that she and her country had nothing good
to say or think about Hatians, and did not want any of them ruining their country.
Smart, folks, it would seem. The article sugar coats it, I think.

Seems to me Warren is killing off his own citizen Jim Jones types so he can usher in more jihadi's and illegals.

I can think of many places to vacation besides the DR. Why go to a place like that? It may be cheap, but no one there really likes you.

Article must have been written by some drama queen sitting in a favorite bar with their laptop during happy hour. It reads like fiction. The only news is visitors became sick in the Dominican Republic. End of story this is not investigative reporting. I wouldn't cross the street to see Jimmy Buffet the super liberal Obama supporter, Trump basher anyway the parrot heads should have stayed home.
