One sometimes hears of politicians enjoying a “honeymoon” period in the early days after taking office. During these honeymoons, political differences are for the moment put aside so the newly installed officeholder can put his administration in place unperturbed by petty squabbles. In Chicago, where Mayor Lori Lightfoot was elected in April and sworn in on May 20, the honeymoon is already over. Regular readers will recall I have a special fondness for Chicago, where I first visited more than 30 years ago and made friendships that have lasted to this day. So it saddens me to watch from afar as the city’s reputation for culture, architecture, and professional sports

Ah, a new mayor in town....Lori want to keep up on Chicago shooting stats: has a running total.. As for me, Chicago is on my 'no go' list, along with Kalifornia and Nooo Yawk...I would like to see the North East, but would have to go through N.Y. to get there or detour through Kanada, and that is about as bad with Trudeau turning it into a muslim enclave...

Are we some how supposed to care? I am confused. Granted treating the wounded is much more expensive than burying the dead. Maybe the CPD could do a community outreach program to teach marksmanship. This would save a huge amount of taxpayer money.

Chicago is a corrupt, violent, entirely dysfunctional sewer. Not much that happens there is normal, and nothing that happens there surprises. Crooks are the leaders, why would it be surprising that the police are prevented from doing their jobs? The Museum of Science and Industry with the German U-boat is worth the trip as is the Field Museum. All the rest pretty much can be missed without loss. And you have to risk your life, literally, to visit these places. Meigs Field used to be a jewel in this place, an easy way to fly into Chicago in your own aircraft, but, of course, Mayor Daly illegally and corruptly destroyed it. I always suspected that he was jealous of private pilots, and wanted to take away their "special access".

MSNBC’s Chris Matthews is worried that Democrats and their Hollywood “buddies” have not learned important lessons from the 2016 presidential election. The “Hardball” host told network colleagues on “Morning Joe” that President Trump is primed to once again win votes in Pennsylvania and key states due to the hubris of the “liberal elite.” “[Voters in 2016] knew there was a great party going on among the liberal elite with all their Hollywood buddies, and they weren’t invited,” Mr. Matthews said Monday. “Nobody wants to go to a party if they haven’t been invited. … A friend of mine once said — he said this about relationships with men and women —

You really have to wonder by the series NBC News is running right now asking each of the Democratic presidential candidate to name their “one big idea” for America that will cause a groundswell and propel them to the White House next year. These are some of the “big ideas” they are offering: Cory Booker: Baby bonds. What? John Hickenlooper: Skills training. Whoa! Save up for that! Kamala Harris: Raises for teachers. Democrats are quietly airing concerns that battles with President Trump, including investigations of the president and his administration along with the noisy debate over impeachment, are overshadowing the party’s agenda, threatening its grip on the House in 2020. That narrative has been fueled by Trump, who has used his Twitter feed and interviews to lambaste Democrats as the “Do Nothing Party,” when in fact they have spent the first five months of their House majority ticking through agenda items they highlighted in the midterm campaign, addressing matters including health-care prices, political corruption and background checks for gun buyers. But voters aren’t paying much attention, party leaders are finding,

President Donald Trump is officially withholding hundreds of millions in U.S. aid to three Central American countries as punishment for being much of the source of the current illegal immigration crisis. The White House informed Congress Monday that it will permanently divert $370 million in aid to El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala, according to Reuters. That money was previously approved by Congress for fiscal year 2018, but had not yet been used. Trump is not stopping there. The administration is also suspending $180 million that was approved in fiscal year 2017 that had not yet been spent. Her daughter, who is 13, has Type 1 diabetes and needs insulin. In the United States, it can cost hundreds of dollars per vial. In Canada, you can buy it without a prescription for a tenth of that price. So, Greenseid led a small caravan last month to the town of Fort Frances, Ontario, where she and five other Americans paid about $1,200 for drugs that would have cost them $12,000 in the United States.

If you read the newspapers, tuned into the cable TV pundits or received an email from one of the Democrats running for president, you’d swear Donald Trump was back to his treasonous ways. All that was missing was an annoying OMG text exclamation punctuating the unfounded claims that Trump might violate the law in 2020 by accepting intelligence on a political rival from a foreign country. The inference, of course, is that it would come from a hostile power such as Russia or North Korea or Iran. Actually, what Trump told ABC News’s George Stephanopoulos was that he’d consider taking intelligence dirt about a rival from a friendly ally.
