The White House is slamming the Office of Special Counsel [OSC] for recommending Counselor to the President Kellyanne Conway be removed from her position for violations of the Hatch Act. "OSC's draft Report is based on multiple fundamental legal and factual errors, makes unfair and unsupported claims against a close advisor to the President, is the product of a blatantly unfair process that ignored statutory notice requirements, and has been influences by various inappropriate considerations. Sounds like another useless agency that needs to be eliminated.

Working in the White House as a Counselor to the President on the public payroll subjects one to the political activities limits of the Hatch Act. Ms Conway disregarded that in very public ways. So, does the law apply to her? Or, like the reviled "elites", does she get a pass? And, let's eliminate this "useless agency" OSC...better yet, let's also go back to the days of naked political patronage. Change of administration means firing them all, from Clerks to Cabinet Secretaries. Sweep them out - can't be trusted! Replace them with "our people". Let the taxpayer pick up the tab for the partisan political activities on the part of what are intended to be non-partisans simply applying the laws. If that's what you want, then let's drop the pretenses, repeal Hatch, and have at it - and no whining later when the ramifications set in. Hang bunting and "Elect Democrat" signs in every Federal office. It's already bad enough that we have the situation we have had for many years, with partisan political activities of Hatched workers less policed and more widespread and open than ever. What we need is more OSC action, way more, than less. I would hope PDT would put Federal Civil Service reform high on his list, and return to merit hiring rather than "special programs" the flood the government with incompetents, hacks and worse. Seems, too, many don't know the difference between the Office of Special Counsel and a Special Prosecutor.

It looks to me that Ms Conway is pad by an apprpriation to the offic of the ptesident and is therefore explicitly exempt from the Hatch act

The Hatch Act has been around for 80 years. And Kellyanne Conway is not ignorant of its existence. She needs to exercise better judgement.
