The US women's soccer team has been slammed for wildly celebrating every goal in their 13-0 defeat of Thailand. The Women's World Cup favorites thrashed the minnows in Riems, France on Tuesday night and reacted to each goal as if it were their first.Thailand was never a real threat to the U.S. national team. Even so, the three-time Women’s World Cup champions had no desire to go easy on a lesser opponent in their opening game.Goals matter in the group stage. And statements matter in soccer’s biggest tournament.'Obviously we have the utmost respect for everyone we play, but it’s the World Cup,' said captain Megan Rapinoe.

I cared until I saw this article and the other below (refusing to sing the National Anthem in solidarity with the freak ABCXXXX XYZ “community.”)

Ever since that rip-off-the-shirt display at the 1999 World Cup final, I have zero interest in women’s soccer. As a matter of fact, I had zero interest then. As a further matter of fact, I have also zero interest in men’s soccer.

I watched it. The point of the game is to score goals. The players were happy, ecstatic when they did that. They will face tougher opponents and this game boosted their confidence. I didn’t see any taunting and one of the players hugged the Thai goalie at the end. The coach said score differential can make a difference in standings. I think the criticism was unfair.

Agree with #8 - remember that the point of any ball game is to score points while your opponent's job is to try to keep you from scoring. It can be said that if the offense lets up, that is an insult to your opponent.
Also remember that the Thai team is one of the best in THE WORLD and they are not playing in the WORLD CUP by accident. That they are not the best team in the tournament is almost beside the point.

Any interest I had in the success of this team evaporated when what's-her-face shot off her ugly mouth about our president. Talk about biting the hand that feeds you! But there is no point in being angry about her arrogance and ignorance. The Trump Effect (as real as Trump Derangement Syndrome) is soon to hit her and the team. Whatever their goal is, they aren't going to achieve it. Mess with Trump, ya get messed up.

Not so fast #8 and #9. Yes, winning is the goal but there has to be good sportsmanship and respect. That seems to come up short lately in athletics. Excessive celebrating should occur privately in my opinion.

The issue isn't the lopsided score, point differential is important in this tournament. The issue is with the over-the-top choreographed celebrations for the late goals. Go crazy if you like when you've scored a game winner or your first ever World Cup goal but the captain's celebration for the 9th goal was uncalled for.

Why does EVERYTHING have to be interlaced with politics these days? Why can't sports just be sports, education just be education, entertainment just be entertainment, religion just be religion, food just be food, business just be business, news just be news, music just be music?
Sports has become more about about spectacle than sports. Too bad.

If goal differential is a tie breaker for advancing in the tournament (and various reports say that it is), then too bad for Thailand. In that context, the US team cannot take its foot off the gas. Sorry snowflakes, blame the tournament organizers

Yeah, yeah, yeah...goals differential tiebreaker for advancing to the next round. More in never enough.
Even boxing has technical knockouts - it doesn't go to some gory, even fatal end because 12 rounds are scheduled. It is apparent from the runaway score the Thais were "defenseless"...score if one must, but to "celebrate" a continuing beating is shameful sportsmanship by any measure, a real exhibition of class by the USA LGBQ team.

I think the basis here is why was a team, obviously superior to the opponent, even scheduled to begin with. That's like pitting an NFL team against a JV high school team. That their political preferences is on display is sad and does not belong in that arena. I never cared for the game that replaced our football fields with a couple of opposing backstops.

Personally, I think they need to enjoy it while they can. The same LBGTQXYZMFLRP group the one woman stood up for against her own country is trying to assure there will never be another "Women's" team in any sport--or men's team for that matter. Since they essentially want one gender, the proponents of the alphabet monopoly are threatening any team sport based on gender/no gender.
How can there be a women's team--we either have to have no gender teams or (at last count of the number possible) 62 different gender teams. Survival of the fittest, isn't that what the secularists want. So, most teams will be embodied by "men" who don't identify as "men" but are still men. This twisted pretzel of a hoax (along with flying rainbow flags at our embassies) is going to destroy sports!

amusing to see this "equal pay" nonsense. In professional sports, the athletes in the games that people want to watch should be paid more, for the simple reason that they generate more money. The men's World Cup players are paid more than the women's WC players because a lot more people watch the men than the women. In professional tennis, I believe the women's matches are about as popular as the men's, so the women tennis players should be paid comparably.

Couple of points:
1. You are supposed to run up the score. There is no "mercy" rule here because bracket ties are decided by the goal differential. So it is stupid not to run up the score.
2. Only the bull dyke is the anti-American. Most of the players are fine.
3. Anything Americans do is always bad. So if they didn't celebrate, the same critics would say they were "arrogant" if they didn't celebrate. Just ignore the haters.

We watched some of this match. Wondered why the Thai team was even there, they played that poorly.
We also didn’t think the actions of some of the Thai players - one who deliberately pushed an American player to the ground - were sportsmanlike.
