An Instagram influencer who has traveled the globe says she regrets not being honest about her experiences in the Dominican Republic as the country faces scrutiny over recent tourist deaths. Cora Smith, who runs the Instagram The_greatescape.blog along with her husband, Jay, traveled through the Dominican Republic for three months between March 2018 and June 2018 to kick off a two-year trip around the world. (Snip) In a story published in a blog post last year and shared to INSIDER this week, Smith claimed she was nearly kidnapped and sexually assaulted in separate incidences within weeks of arriving in the

What's an Instagram Influencer? For that matter what's an Instagram? Lots (6 actually) of Americans dying in DR in the last few weeks. More (5 times more?) dying in Chicago. Instagram THAT.

Call me mean, but I have a hard time feeling sorry for people who get themselves in dangerous situations because they don't use common sense. This woman should have stayed in a Resort! Most of them tell you not to LEAVE the Resort because it's not safe! Same thing if you travel to a foreign country and decide you want to see places off the Tourist safe travel plan, then you get mugged or worse, and then you complain and blame the Travel company. Also, how about those Idiots who have to climb mountains, get stuck at the top, then want someone to risk their life to come and rescue them. I am tired of people who don't THINK before doing stupid stuff!

Didn't tell her story due to a "fear of rejection". More likely, she couldn't risk letting anyone know that her lifestyle was anything short of wonderful and enviable. I bet her reviews are always packed with the usual modifiers - amazing, incredible, etc.

By the way #3, this recent bad stuff happened at resorts. With guards in resort uniform in one beating possible rape case.
With the DR government still in denial about a problem, best idea is probably to just stay out of that hellhole, though if the Clintons, want to go, they should feel free. Bill's fond of the place.
Plenty of nice places to go in the Caribbean where nobody gets poisoned, beaten or turns up dead...

Travel promoters have been glossing over problems for longer than I've been around. Wasn't that an integral part of the movie Jaws, for example?
The DR will pay dearly for this decay, and rightly so. And my heart goes out to her for her harrowing experience.
Meanwhile, on an unrelated issue, MSN needs to hire a copy editor, or more erudite reporters. Spell check programs are unlikely to catch the improper use of the word "incidences," or other errors in this report like "her her."
Simple enough, and I don't mean to be petty, but attention is also lacking in the report's narrative. It dearly needs another draft.
Inattention to things we see makes me wonder how much attention is given to other, arguably more important things we don't see, like fact checking.

To be expected from a 3rd world culture, and the Left wants to inject this virus into the United States. See Minneapolis, Detroit, coastal California, etc. #1&3 remind me of the stupid idealistic young husband who led his wife and young child into Taliban country, resulting in their imprisonment for 5 years and her repeated rape. Her father was livid at him when they returned; I would have been homicidal. There was the young bicycle touring couple, Federal government workers, idealistic and rabidly lefist who did the same thing, only they didn't make it out alive. The woman probably endured a protracted hell.

I realize this is beside the point, but how do people that age afford to go on vacation for two years?? Hubby and I are both doctors, late thirties, and have never been able to afford to vacation for more than a week at a time (once or twice a year).
