On Friday, the Army Times broke the news that the Silver Star Staff Sgt. David Bellavia received for his heroic actions in Fallujah, Iraq, in 2004 is being upgraded to a Congressional Medal of Honor. The report, quickly picked up by several media outlets, was a bit of a departure from protocol, as the White House would normally be first to make such an announcement with a statement. The White House is expected to make the announcement sometime this week.

Comments:

Solidly deserved. Even President Trump and all after him will be required to salute this brave man.

Here in WNY, we hear David on the radio several afternoons each week. He really is a great guy. Too bad the Republican Party refuses to support him when he runs for office. Ramona (the Pest)

Wonderful target practice David Bellavis. Great training for Western New York Democrats. The NY Rinos will have to give right of way. Thank you Donaldus Maximus, we are not deserving!

The article states that since SSG Bellavia will be awarded the MOA he will have a better chance at running for Congress. I doubt very seriously that the SSG will use this award for personal reasons.

Holy Cow! Bravery has a new name- David Bellavia! Wow- words cannot express the work this man did for freedom. Tom Clancy couldn’t have created a scene or script better than what this man did in real life! So glad he is getting a medal!!

Sorry to be a wet blanket here, but that's not MOH material. For certain a Silver Star award, and perhaps a DSC, but far short of the MOH in my opinion. Read entries from the Federal published MOH book sometime, and see where that bar has been set over the last 75 years. Standards for everything are slipping away these days, starting from when leftist General Eric Shenseki ordered the entire Regular Army to wear the once coveted Black Beret, which had been the Army designated headgear for the Ranger Battalions only.

The strange-birds of ‘The 2020 Gang’ 4 replies

There are a lot of strange-birds in politics, but no one has ever seen anything quite like the positions being warbled by the 2020 gaggle of presidential candidates, a group of strange-birds being labeled “The 2020 Gang” by some observers. We have entered a political era when people with no substantive credentials and few life successes believe they are qualified to be the leader of the free world and to govern your life. This era started last decade when a little-known man became president, whose primary real-life achievement had been to run a rag-tag street pack in Chicago.

CNN biased and hypocritical? Never that! Despite being maligned day in and day out by pesky conservatives over its alleged bias, anybody with common sense and reason knows that CNN is a wholly “fair and balanced” network … Just kidding! CNN is arguably a heavily partisan network whose contributors, anchors and pundits have no qualms about openly displaying their pro-Democrat, anti-Republican bias. Take for instance the glaringly biased chyron that appeared on CNN early Tuesday morning after 2020 contender former Vice President Joe Biden released a transcript of what he intended to say during an event in Iowa later that afternoon:

If the election were held today, President Donald J. Trump would be re-elected. The economy is going strong, unemployment is at record levels, dipping below four percent, and paychecks are bigger. Consumer and small business confidence have reached their highest levels in decades. This, plus the power of incumbency and Democrats not really having a solid candidate, means Trump nabs a second term. Even Democratic strategist have to admit this (via The Hill):

A new letter from the Justice Department addressed to Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) reveals John Durham’s investigation into Spygate is much larger than previously known. AG Barr’s review of the FISA abuses and surveillance against Trump’s campaign is “broad in scope and multifaceted,” according to the DOJ letter. The letter to Nadler, penned by Assistant Attorney General Stephen Boyd, indicates Fusion GPS, foreign intelligence services and non-governmental organizations and individuals are all a target of US Attorney John Durham’s investigation into the origins of Spygate.

Famed Harvard Law School professor Alan Dershowitz says House Democrats at this point are gasping for air in the never-ending Russia saga. “They’re looking to create something that isn’t there,” he told me in a brief phone interview Monday morning. “They’re trying to weaponize the criminal justice system for partisan advantage. It’s not there. There’s no obstruction of justice in the [special counsel] report.” Democrats on Monday will hear testimony related to their absurd case against President Trump for supposedly obstructing justice. Democrats have called in former President Richard Nixon's lawyer John Dean to offer testimony that would bolster their case for Trump’s impeachment.

Twice-failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton believes President Trump's administration is a gateway to fascism. "The idea that it can't happen here is just old-fashioned, my friends,” the former secretary of state warned this weekend during an address at Wellesley College. Her remarks came with a specific reference to former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright's new book, Fascism: A Warning. How seriously should we take any “warning” written by a former secretary of state who mocked 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney when he cautioned about the growing Russian threat? I am going to say not much.

The Supreme Court declined Monday to take up a legal dispute targeting the inscription of “In God We Trust” on coins and currency from the Department of Treasury. Michael Newdow, an activist who filed the case on behalf of a group of atheists, argued Congress's mandate to inscribe the nation’s motto on U.S. money was a violation of the First Amendment’s Establishment Clause, which prohibits Congress from establishing a national religion. The phrase “In God We Trust” first appeared on coins in 1864, and Congress passed legislation in 1955 requiring all paper and coin currency to bear the words.

House Democrats have reached an agreement with the Department of Justice, staving off criminal contempt proceedings against Attorney General William Barr. House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., announced on Monday that the DOJ would comply with House subpoenas to hand over documents and evidence underlying former special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation. The DOJ "has agreed to begin complying with our committee's subpoena by opening Robert Mueller’s most important files to us, providing us with key evidence that the special counsel used to assess whether the president and others obstructed justice or were engaged in other misconduct,” Nadler said in a statement.

Imagine being arrested and losing your home after two repeat burglars break into your house again and rush toward you with the possible intention of murdering you. This exact scenario played out in New York late last month thanks to the far-left state’s draconian gun control laws. A 64-year-old Deerfield homeowner was charged with illegal firearm possession and arrested after he used a gun he’d inherited from his deceased father to kill two repeat burglars. Then upon his release from a jail a couple of days later, he found himself homeless because his house had been condemned.

The Washington Post reports: A three-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Thursday ordered dismissal of the lawsuit by environmental and Native American groups, saying President Donald Trump had revoked a 2017 permit allowing the $8 billion pipeline to be built. Trump later issued a new permit, and the appellate judges agreed with Justice Department attorneys who say that nullifies the legal challenge involving environmental impacts.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg knows firsthand the burden of six-figure student loan debt. He and his husband, Chasten, are far from alone, though, and their personal college indebtedness is helping to keep the issue on the national stage. With loans totaling more than $130,000, they are among the 43 million people in the United States who owe federal student loan debt. The debtors are so numerous and the total debt so high — more than $1.447 trillion, according to federal statistics — that several of the Democratic candidates have made major policy proposals to address the crisis. Even before this premiere, PBS was already infusing the LGBT agenda into its programming. As a Guardian headline noted in 2016, "From Nickelodeon to Disney: Children's TV leads the way for LGBT characters," with same-sex unions featuring prominently in shows. It is not just television,

California wants to look after its people, so it keeps expanding its social safety net. It also wants to welcome all comers and so embraces illegal immigrants and protects them in sanctuary cities. To see how this is working out, visit Skid Row in L.A. or neighborhoods in San Francisco or elsewhere where homeless camps are spreading. Caring for all Californians is made harder by the state importing as many non-Americans as possible. It's almost incredible, but also entirely characteristic, that California lawmakers have now decided to give healthcare free to nearly 100,000 illegal immigrants aged 19 to 25.

Lake Erie and Lake Superior — two of the five that make up the Great Lakes — broke records for water levels this May. Lakes Michigan and Huron could follow suit. Naturally, climate change is getting the blame. “We are undoubtedly observing the effects of a warming climate in the Great Lakes,” says Richard Rood, a University of Michigan climate scientist. But just a few years ago, climate scientists were insisting that a warming climate would cause water levels to decline. In 2008, Science Daily reported on a study that attributed the decline in Great Lakes water levels to global warming.
