In the years before he was ousted for alleged sexual harassment and financial abuses, the leader of the Catholic Church in West Virginia gave cash gifts totaling $350,000 to fellow clergymen, including young priests he is accused of mistreating and more than a dozen cardinals in the United States and at the Vatican, according to church records obtained by The Washington Post.
Bishop Michael J. Bransfield wrote the checks from his personal account over more than a decade, and the West Virginia diocese reimbursed him by boosting his compensation to cover the value of the gifts, the records show. As a tax-exempt nonprofit, the diocese

Add to all of this, that the Roman Catholic Church supports and encourages slavery and human trafficking by their support for illegal immigration, and I have no guilt in distancing myself from this corrupt Organization.
If you are a believer, you need to know that Jesus is not happy about all of this!

A wonderful priest and dear friend left the Catholic Church over this scandal. He is now an Episcopalian minister. Such a loss!

Nothing about corruption in the Catholic Church surprises me anymore. The rot is pervasive. What should happen is everyone who got money from this pervert should be investigated, starting with the dozen cardinals. Were they paid to look the other way?

All of this reminds me of the 1997 movie Conspiracy Theory in which Mel Gibson's character Jerry Fletcher says to two nuns sitting in the back of his taxi, "Someone needs to remove the scabs, the festering scabs that is the Vatican." How ironic and prophetic!!

Sadly, it is not just the Catholic church suffering from internal rot. Look around. Many denominations and individual churches have decided that the Bible is NOT the Word of God, the Ten Commandments are just suggestions or guidelines and that any deviancy is OK. I don't quite understand why an entire denomination, Episcopal, Presbyterian and many Methodists have chosen to follow societies' more's rather than the Bible. Oh by the way, many of these TV televangelists who are living extravagant lives with jets, multiple mansions, etc. do very little to help their fellow man. They use scripture and say the appropriate words but it stops there. Perhaps a refresher on 1John 3:18 would help....nah, just a guide!!! Feet of clay and God will not be mocked! This includes the Pope. "let's rewrite the Bible to reflect today's world and standards". He didn't actually say this but is trying to wordsmith a sentence. Oh my.

Pity that's all he had. If he was Born Again he could have had a fleet of private jets. Not all Catholic priests take a vow of poverty.

As #7 pointed out, the rot and corruption are not limited to members of the Catholic clergy, the inhabitants of the Vatican nor any other religious/societal/political organization. Just as I do not renounce being an American because of the Deep State Uniparty, I will never renounce Catholicism because of the failings of individual men. What is the depth of hubris of modern man to expect perfection from every leader?
Human corruption and betrayal have been present in the Church since Judas’ kiss and Peter’s thrice denial. The teachings of Christ, His Apostles and the Church Fathers have remained unchanged for two millennia; overcoming all human frailties, transgressions and sins because it is guided by the Holy Spirit, as promised by Our Lord. The Holy Sacrifice is still offered, the faithful still receive His Body and Blood, and His Real Presence is still reserved in tabernacles across the world.
The Fullness of the Faith has survived schisms, the Borgia popes and the Reformation. It will survive Satan’s infiltration of the priesthood because all these stories are becoming known. Lukewarm souls may turn away, but the spiritual warriors that remain will grow in strength and wisdom. Twenty-first century Christians have perhaps more in common with our first century brethren than any other generation; we proclaim Christ crucified to a pagan world. God uses the weak and sinful to show His Glory. There is no human ugliness that cannot be transformed by His Love, and let us thank Him for His infinite patience.
