The hypocrisy and ideology of the Mexican position would indicate the tariffs are certain to take place. Factually, after Mexico has made their “red line” position clear, one could argue there’s no reason to go through the graduated timeline; the U.S. might as well just start applying the full 25% tariff amount on June 10th. WASHINGTON/MEXICO CITY (Reuters) – Mexico said on Monday it would reject a U.S. idea to take in all Central American asylum seekers if it is raised at talks this week with the Trump administration, which has threatened to impose tariffs if Mexico
so don't take them - send them back to their countries of origin and have them start any paperwork there

Cancel the trade deal until Mexico comes around and cease importing anything from Mexico. We can do without for a while.

Trump has not told them what he wants, so this is fake ‘news’.

Mexico has never been our friend. Talk to some of them who are honest and they will tell you that Americans are viewed as a bunch of dope-heads who are stupid. We allow our politicians to take bribes (by whatever name or means you want to call it) so that our borders and immigration laws are not enforced. That allows the drugs and human trafficking to persist, while allowing money to be sent back to Mexico from illegals working in our country. We pay illegal invaders to be here, using our ''social safety net.'' Food, money, health care, the education system (some universities won't even charge the illegals out-of-state tuition!)
Maybe the Mexicans are right...We know that the drug users enrich the cartels, who pay off the government officials. Sadly, we are stupid because we elect crooked politicians, who give our country and national treasure away.

OP is exactly right, we're not asking them to keep all the illegals in Mexico. We are asking Mexico to keep them out of their country and not continue helping them transit from their southern border to our border. Mexico could stop it in an instant.

Mexico and the rest of Central America are failed narco-states-why else are their citizens leaving in droves, paying human traffickers and taking life or death risks trying to cross the border? The US gvt is even worse-we have people in Congress eager to sell us out and intentionally drag their feet regarding immigration policy. Until countries learn to repect our borders no immigrants from Cental America should be allowed in. If our do nothing Congress refuses to close the loopholes, we must elect those who would heed the will of the people,

FTA: "IN AUGUST OF 2017, Mexican Economic Minister ... threatened to flood the United States with South American illegal aliens, criminals and gang members as leverage."
I pray that our President uses all of his negotiating skills to help our country and its citizens survive. Tariffs and a wall would be a great beginning.

Well it’s for sure that President Trump is going to be up against the UniParty US Congress, their boss Tom Donahue of the US (Mexican) Chamber of Commerce, and the Mexican Government who for their own political reasons are intend on flooding the USA with poor, uneducated, and socialist minded people from all over the world.
The Leftist and liberal Democrat segment of the UniParty Congress wants as many illegal aliens as possible to get into the USA as possible that’s why they passed an incompetent asylum law that ignores mass fraud. So that in the short term those illegal aliens be counted in the 2020 Census, so that their numbers can be used to reapportion an additional number of congressional seats to the Democrat run big cities where it will be much easier for leftist Democrats to win those seats; and in the long term to grant the entire 20 million or so illegal alien population a massive amnesty and then grant as many as possible US voting rights, which would change the political and voting demographics of the USA in enough key States to keep the Democrats in permanent political power.
While the establishment Republican segment of the UniParty who are owned by the Chamber of Commerce wants to keep the status quo along the borderline so as much cheap foreign labor as possible can continue to flow into the USA, be easily hired by US industry, thus keeping business labor costs low, which will increase business profits, and continue to enrich the investor class. That’s why the US stock markets nose dived when President Trump announced his proposed tariffs against Mexico.
The Mexican Government has always been absolutely against even reasonable US borderline and immigration enforcement. The current Mexican Government is a socialist government that is politically aligned with the US Democrat socialists and is against Trump’s American First political agenda. The Mexicans enshrined Article 11 in their federal constitution that prohibits the Mexican Government from stopping Mexicans from walking across the US borderline and into the USA at any point, which is illegal under US immigration law, claiming that Mexicans have the human right to gain entry to the USA as they wish to make a better life for themselves, their families, and to send US dollars back to Mexico. It appears that Mexico is now extending that privilege to all Central American intending illegal aliens who are transiting Mexico.

Well enjoy your tariffs.
Absolutely #4. One little detail that was accidentally left out of our history books was the real reason we entered WWI. Our little friends to the South were planning on joining hands mit der Kaiser Wilhelm II to invade the US. But all we learned about was some boat.

I think Trump is doing a great deal of good for our country but this is bullshit. The US government needs to get off of their ample fat asses and fix our immigration policy and secure our OWN borders. Mexico isn't going to deal with it, nor should they, until it becomes their own problem. When we fix our policy and border, then it will be their problem.
Our immigration policy has been broken for decades, serving only as a lame political football while making people suffer. People and families we want to come into the States. Both parties are using this crap immigration policy to manipulate constituents on both sides in different ways. It needs to STOP.

Well #14, it starts one place. We Republican voters replace GOPe Congressmen and Senators who refuse to work on and DO what you say. Starting with crooked Mitch, who is busy with his wife feathering her foreign shipping family’s bank accounts. McConnell will have a primary opponent. I have a little hope that KY conservatives/Trump and strong border advocates will put up or shut up and toss Mitch but not much. Until WTP stand up to our elected swamp critters, our communities will continue to look like south of the border.

If Mexico refuses to harbor illegals, than why doesn't it enforce their own immigration laws at the Mexican southern border? Hypocrites.
