BARCELONA, Spain — In what might be seen as a Memorial Day gift to President Trump, residents of a mountain range outside of El Paso today woke up to a new vista--a mile-long wall of metal slats constructed along the border with Mexico that just shot up over the weekend. The secret project, which started on Friday evening and was completed by Monday morning, was the work of We Build the Wall, a new group whose director is the former White House strategist Steve Bannon. The CEO is Air Force veteran Brian Kolfage, who had raised $20 million

If I read this right, the newly built wall filled in the gap that otherwise let in drug & people smuggling traffic. If it's up to code, of durable materials and considered safe, why be against it. Of course, maintaining it becomes an issue.

#1 I received a mass email from Kolfage asking me to reaffirm my donation which I did. In the absence of such a reaffirmation after a period of time, I believe? he sent out refunds, including apparently yours.

Watching closely. Kris Kobach, who I trust, is the general counsel for this group. Now that I know Bannon is
the head, that is probably good. But at times, Bannon has been difficult to understand. Of course, some of
that is the blizzard of lies printed about him by the Enemedia.
If this continues to go well, I will be sending a large contribution.

Bannon got the wall built in a bad area of the USA border. Why should I care about what he did across the pond?

It has to be built in secret because if the Left had gotten wind of it, they'd have gotten an injunction from a Leftist judge in two shakes of a heifer's tail.

Normally the Left's black shirt thugs (Antifa) would protest something like this. However, I doubt these cowards would have the courage to rile a crew of Texan construction workers building the wall.

#2- Read somewhere that this section is made of COR-TEN steel (trademarked name owned by U. S. Steel) and has a “unique look and naturally oxidizing finish” that makes it “especially desirable for architectural projects.” The USS Headquarters building in Pittsburgh, PA was constructed using COR-TEN steel. COR-TEN steel “is a group of steel alloys ... developed to obviate the need for painting, and form a stable rust-like appearance if exposed to the weather for several years. Weathering steel has increased resistance to atmospheric corrosion when compared to other steels. COR-TEN resists the corrosive effects of rain, snow, ice, fog, and other meteorological conditions by forming a coating of dark brown oxidation over the metal, which inhibits deeper penetration and negates the need for painting and costly rust-prevention maintenance over the years. In simple terms the steel is allowed to rust and that rust forms a protective coating that slows the rate of future corrosion.” Not certain, but think construction of the entire border wall may be using COR-TEN steel. Although the idea of “rust” may not seem appealing, there is a warm richness to the look of COR-TEN steel.

Exactly right, #9. Cor-Ten is good stuff, has been around for a long time, seems to be
overlooked too often as a choice for outdoors items. Great choice for this
application.

#10- Thank you. Agree, good stuff. Strong and warmly classy—doesn’t look cheap.
#9 ADDENDUM- An article published late this afternoon by the Daily Mail reports that Brian Kolfage said the wall “being built by the US Government is made with steel that is not all-weather and will rust. ... Our wall is far superior to the government wall.” Being aware of the COR-TEN product’s strength and versatility, it is a disappointment and most unfortunate to learn that the wall being planned by the US Government does not use COR-TEN. As informational, Mr. Kolfage told the Daily Mail that their build was approved by President Trump and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

#11. The Corps of Engineers is in charge. A more bureaucratic bunch would be hard to find.
This group is smart folks for sure. I can vouch that Kobach is super smart, and really knows how
to ask questions and understand the answers totally. Bannon, who I have not met, seems to
also be pretty bright. Bright folks hire and listen to other bright folks - and, unsurprisingly,
we get better outcomes.
I am not sure of the cost penalty for Cor-Ten. Also, in some applications the rusty stains after rains
are problematic. For power transmission lines and a fence like this, irrelevant.

Yahoo News, not a reliable source.
From Kris Kobach, on site, the distance is 1/2 mile. Seems a bit like Mr. Bannon may
be more of a figurehead, although I suppose modern comms may permit him to be
'in touch' when overseas.

The group consulted with local authorities to identify the most dangerous part of the border with Mexico, “where the cartels and asylum seekers are coming in,” then quickly purchased the rights to the land and began construction Friday night. Steve Bannon’s “take” on the project is a delight: “We had to catch them by surprise and predicted that local residents are “gonna freak out” to see what was erected in two days.
