A catastrophic tornado has ripped through Missouri's capital, according to the National Weather Service. The 'violent tornado' was confirmed in Jefferson City around 11.43pm Wednesday night. Jefferson City took a direct hit by the storm and there are several unconfirmed reports of residents hearing 'mass casualties' over their scanners. Three deaths in Missouri have been confirmed, the result of a tornado earlier in the day, but there is no word yet on possible fatalities in the capital. Police Lt. David Williams said officers have received multiple calls of people being trapped in their homes and 20 people have been rescued by emergency workers in Jefferson City.

Certainly this is a bad thing, and if it was one of your loved ones killed, that is as bad as it gets.
If it was your home or business destroyed, that is as bad as it gets. But this looks like a few
homes and businesses and a few people killed. As bad as that is, it is still, fortunately, not as
bad as it can be at times.
But the Joplin tornado killed 150+ people and leveled everything in a 1/4 mile wide swath for miles.
THAT was catastrophic.
This is far, far less serious. The media needs to avoid using the most extreme limits of the
language for any and all serious events, they have really made it impossible to trust their
judgment, they always go overboard.
This was about 100 miles east of us. We had strong storms here, but no tornadoes in our
area. Just luck of the springtime draw in the Midwest. unfortunately.
Yes, serious. Yes, a bad thing. But hardly catastrophic.

Have the climate change kooks yet started blaming Republicans and capitalism for these devastating storms? Wait for it if they haven't . . . cuz they will.

Used to be, mass casualty events meant at least 10 or more deaths attributed to whatever happened to cause the tragedies. Now we have the media whipping up hysterics where none are needed. RIP to the ones who were killed, and may God comfort their families in this time of trial.

As of one hour ago, local news are reporting 20 injured, no deaths in Jefferson City.
A few dozen homes and businesses destroyed and damaged.
Three killed in a different location in south western Missouri.
Yes bad, but still, on the rational measure of tornadoes, this is pretty
minimal. It can, and has been, far worse.
Best wishes for the folks who had homes and business damaged, a
and sincere condolences for the dead. These storms are so unpredictable
in their severity and where they might spit out a tornado, and how strong
or durable it might be.

I guess it depends on where you live when you consider the severity of an occurrence. I live in Jefferson City. At this time, they're saying the tornado was an EF3 so, no, not nearly as bad as Joplin but considerably more severe than some strong winds. Among other things, most of an apartment complex was destroyed, along with several historical homes. We have many, many families displaced and yes, several businesses completely destroyed. We were already dealing with flooding north of town so this definitely adds to the mess. We appreciate those who continue to pray for our town and we are thankful that there was no loss of life.

It is wonderful, #9, that there was no loss of life in Jeff City. Certainly a very bad thing to have people injured
and good bit of property destroyed. Glad that people apparently sought effective shelter in time.
Buildings can be replaced.
