California Governor Gavin Newsom has noticed something amiss in his home state and by gosh, he wants some answers. What is that’s put a bee under his bonnet? Gas prices in the Golden State are too high and people are grousing about it. People who vote. So the Governor is swooping into action, "determined to solve this vexing mystery." (LA Times) Gov. Gavin Newsom wants to know why California’s gasoline prices are higher than in the rest of the country, blaming potential “inappropriate industry practices” Tuesday rather than the state’s higher taxes and tougher environmental regulations.

Of course, taxaholic democrats are going to blame the evil oil companies for the high gas prices. Nooo, it´s not us (democrats).

California has/had a unique blend only made by refineries in Calfornia so stations are unable to purchase cheaper gas from out of state.

Gas has been more costly in California for decades.

Then don’t use any gasoline Californians. Since we’ll all be dead in 12 years, show us the way to zero carbon emissions by not using gasoline right now. Otherwise, shut up about what you pay at the pump.

On April 6, 2017, the California State Legislature passed the Road Repair and Accountability Act (RRAA). The bill levied a 12¢ per gallon tax on gasoline and a 20¢ per gallon tax on diesel fuel, and it also raised annual vehicle registration fees The registration fee increase is between $25 to $175.
In 2018 the people voted on proposition 6 which would have repealed this bill. It failed 57-43.
Evidently California likes high gas taxes. They asked for it, they got it.

And extreme limits on refineries and pipelines, and they have made every effort to stop the existing oil production in the state, and banned most new drilling for decades.
Would any of that have anything to do with gas prices?
/s off
They are TRYING to make gas so expensive that their idiot "green" excuses for alternatives seem, if not ´affordable´, at least not quite as insanely expensive.
And they are succeeding. I filled up yesterday here for $2.43. I hear that much of Cali is over $4.00.
Enjoy what you have voted for, fools.

After they´ve accounted for the refining costs, the gas station costs, and the various taxes, there seems to be .28 cents that no one seems to be able to account for in the price, and it´s been going on for a number of years.
And, yet, the roads aren´t being fixes/repaired.

Dems created the problem. Grew the problem now they claim to know nothing about it and swear they will fix it. Here’s a few of the reasons. No new refineries are allowed to be built. Existing refineries not allowed to expand production capacity. All gas sold in Ca must be refined in Ca. Gas can not be imported from other states. Seasonal gas formulas for air pollution are expensive. State gas taxes were just bumped up about 13 cents a gal a year ago. When refineries shut down for maintenance it reduces supply and they increase prices.
That’s just for starters.

California refuses to build a pipeline to the Southwest to buy cheaper fracked crude. They are the ONLY state in the Union that continues to rely on significant quantities of Middle Eastern Crude!
With Iranian Crude being shut out of the Market the Price is going up. They just better hope the Iranians don´t disrupt the Saudi Supply - because then there will be gasoline shortages in California.
(Not enough train cars to haul over the rockies and not enough US Flagged tankers to bring it through the Panama Canal.)

Seems like the governor of California is getting a reality check. That´s what happens when one denies reality. Sadly, he is a reflection of the voters who elected him so nothing will change.

This is all theater. He knows exactly why his state has higher fuel prices, it´s been common knowledge for years.
But he´s getting push back on it from potential voters so he has to create the appearance that he´s concerned and is going to do something about it - which of course he won´t, other than blame the evil oil and gas industry.

There´s a bill working its way through the legislature in CA to stop oil drilling in
public and private lands as of next New Year.
The advertised purpose to "help fight climate change since Trump won´t do it". The real reason is to shut down all the CA oil refineries (no oil, nothing to refine).

One of the main reason gas prices are so high, is because of there has been 2 million barrels of oil taken off the market because of sanctions against Iran, and the trouble in the Socialist heaven to the south. The U.S. may be pumping more oil then ever, but a large portion of that oil is being shipped overseas to help those countries not getting oil from Iran. As a result, and as usual, the U.S. consumer gets the shaft.
