Drawing a lesson from last year’s near loss by incumbent Senator Ted Cruz to Democratic challenger Beto O’Rourke, Texas’s senior senator, John Cornyn, has declared several times that he will not underestimate any potential opponent to his re-election next year. He’s certainly been stocking his war chest like a candidate who expects a bruising fight. In the first quarter of 2019, Cornyn raised more than $2 million, giving him more than $7.5 million cash on hand—the most of any incumbent U.S. senator seeking re-election next year, a spokesman said. His campaign has hired John Jackson,

Totally agree with OP - Cornyn is the epitome of the establishment GOP politician. Yes he may be a Republican but his positions are usually just to the right of the center of the Uni-party. Under his watch nothing will be done to fix ´sanctuary´ laws, fund a wall, curb the illegal invasion, etc. The national Chamber of Commerce pulls his strings.
Write a letter to his office and if you get a response it will sound like "Thank you for taking the time to contact me. I assure you that I will give your opinions all the attention that I feel they deserve."

Cruz was vulnerable to a democrat challenge because he ticked off so many conservatives with the stunt he pulled at the convention. They might have pulled his switch, but they didn´t campaign for him. Cornyn is not a favorite either.
Trump proved that a candidate of the people can overcome a war chest of money. The question is, would Louis Gohmert consider running in the republican primary for Texas Senator?

The answer to your question is absolutely not. Gohmert isn´t suicidal.

Cornyn may be establishment GOP, but I got more than a standard form letter reply from a matter I wrote to him about many years ago. I not only received a detailed reply, but one of his staffers called me, and we discussed the issue for about 15 minutes or so. The other senator didn´t reply at all and my representative sent me the "thank you for your concern" form letter. Things may have changed, but since that time, I respect Cornyn and his staff for doing the job right regardless of his politics.

Cornyn is one of McConnell´s fart sniffers.
We need a fearless conservative in that seat.

Beto spent over $20 million. They act like Cornyn is way out there with $7.5 million.

Most Texans are just fine with the Senator. It doesn´t appear he will be primaried and Joaquin Castro doesn´t want to be Beto II in a Texas general election loss.

Let´s not be harsh on McConnell. He is a republican leader who has cooperated with President Trump on the important issue of judicial nominations, willing to set aside traditional senate obstructionist tactics.
Do not forget the bad Republican leaders, including the hapless heart surgeon, and Trent Lott. And in the House, Dennis the Pervert.
McConnell deserves our praise.

#8, Beta had 80 million, and Cruz just under 40 million.
Beta has been jilted by the adoring media for Mayor Buttjudge.
Cornyn is a RINO´s RINO, but he is not yet a RINOcrat. His cash on hand is NOT NEAR ENOUGH pocket change to withstand another full frontal out of state attack that was put behind fake Mexican Robert Francis O´Rourke

I received an email, fund solicitation from McConnell a few days ago, touting all of the wonderful things he and President Trump have done in the past 2 years. I gave it the same consideration I give Obama when he claims that everything PDT has done were actually his accomplishments. President Trump has done most of the work single-handedly!

The problem is that Cornyn isn´t really a solid Trump supporter.

Serious Texas conservatives certainly are NOT okay with Senator Status Quo. He has done zero about the thousands of illegals running across that border. Did he join Trump front and center on his border visits? Nope. He is as useless as Mitch but his friends at the country club will keep him in office if they can.

The only reason I hold out hope for Cornyn is that he could always rile John McCain, causing McCain to go into a rage of obscenities.

Apples and oranges. Senator Cruz´s relationship with Texas voters is quite different from Senator Cornyn´s.
