If it had only been a singular incident involving a Catholic church in France the burning of one of the most well known human monuments to all of Christianity and Western Civilization could be understandably classified as an unfortunate accident during recent renovation work. Given that more than a thousand French churches across the country have been vandalized in recent years, though, more and more French (and others) are wondering if the Notre Dame fire wasn’t something far more sinister. Just released video of what appears to be someone moving inside the cathedral followed by a flash of

Flare gun? The flare was shot into the structure. Accelerant already applied by construction?

Well, well, well. What will the authorities have to say about this, I wonder?
And what in the world is wrong in Paris that it took such a long time to get adequate firefighters and equipment on site?

Maybe a security camera on another building did the video capture. Unless someone wanted credit for the deed. The other churches that were torched in Paris will perhaps now get some attention from authorities. Well, we can´t always know what the authorities are up to in our OWN country, much less any other country.

The video quality is poor. All thatvwe can discern from it is that a person was on the roof and that there was a bright flash. That flash could have been sunlight reflecting off of some shiney object. A flame probably wouldnt show up on the video at that distance snd in direct sunlight. I would think that someone setting the fire would do it from inside the structure, not from on top of the roof.
Ill wait for conclusions from the investigation. I am personally not convinced that the fire was accidental, but an accidental fire is entirely possible.

I did a Google run around the Cathedral and the fact that the church is on an island plus streets that are somewhat narrow probably hampered the firefighters from getting there quickly in any great numbers. Even if the streets were wider, the sheer number of people that gather in that area would have slowed up the response. Plus the structure was 850 years old. That wood was bone dry and the area where the fight started was as high as one could get on the structure. It wouldn´t have taken long for the fire to get out of control. Once timbers of that size and age get going, it takes huge amounts of water to put it out. That this church survived this long without burning down was the miracle. 850 years of thunderstorms and lightning, and it never caught on fire from being struck by lightning.

#10 You can wait for the conclusions from the investigation, but why would you trust them? It was decided before the fire was out that there was no arson. Who made that decision?Better yet, why was it made so fast?

I agree with # 12. How can a conclusion of no arson be so quickly assessed? Furthermore, with all the vandalism of churches in France, it is logical to question the cause.

Here is a fairly good graphic representation of the roof structure, the attic area (known as The Forest) where the fire was believed to have started, and the fire’s progression to the point where it burned through the lead sheathing panels.
It also discusses things that might have been done to at least minimize the rapid spread of the fire.

The links to the video posted by #5 & 9 is the real clincher for me, as if I needed it. I´ve been aware of the attacks on French Catholic churches, but not the number. When I first saw Notre Dame on fire, it was the same feeling as 9/11. I knew it was an attack. The world knows it was an attack. Is Macron man enough to say so? Hah.

#1 is correct. That was a flair gun. Anyone who has fired one will recognize the flash. A gun flair burns white hot for seven seconds. Somewhere in Paris, a shopkeeper or checker is remembering the muslim who bought that flair gun.

Rumor has it that it will be re-built as a center for all religions, you know, a center for nothing, like The Rats nothing apology for the snake Omar’s vicious anti-Semitic remarks. If that really happens I will be convinced it was arson.

Already, Islamic twitters that praise the fire are being snuffed out as quickly as they are put up. The government is desperate almost beyond contemplation, to stop a blazing holy war that would erupt across Europe if the Muslims are found responsible for this. The insane liberal progressive trope would go up in flames brighter and more quickly than the precious cathedral- and the progressives who allowed the 7th-century troglodytes into the Western culture would be in that conflagration.
Just think what is at stake here, folks. And also witness what is NOT being shown- the usual screaming and celebrations of the Muslim horde over such western cultural disasters. When 9/11 happened, we saw how the Muslims celebrated, even right here in the US. This incredible incident, if shown to be Muslim caused, will create socials shockwaves far greater than the impact of the falling twin towers did. Policial fools who have brought this on are trembling that it will be found out. Save these videos, forward them, for I can assure you, they will be snuffed out very quickly, just as the videos of the Flight 800 videos were.

The ancient wooden roof structure, known as The Forest (because each of those big beams and rafters was made from a single tree), was under the lead sheathing that covered the roof. It can be seen in photos of the Cathedral’s attic, where first reports said that the fire originated. Those reports said that it began under the spire, in the attic. Workers had been working on the spire. They had their generators and all kinds of gear in that area.

Hazy pics of what? No time stamps, either. How many times have any of you taken out your cell phone to video a TV news report? Videos are easy to make and fake. I don´t trust anyone to tell me or show me without evidence.
None of this is evidence of anything.

Lots of great speculation above. The one thing that strikes me is just how quickly they arrived at the conclusion of it not being arson. That kind of conclusion is not possible with the embers still warm. Whom is covering, or afraid, of what?

#18, even if it is determined that this was an attack by Muslims, I don’t think there will be any kind of holy war. Europeans have become cowardly pantywaists and are not about to take up arms over a building. They would rather light candles and sing Kumbaya, until Sharia law is declared in their countries, at which time, they will submit to Islam.

The most famous Christian cathedral in France suddenly catches fire after 850 years on Holy Week, when the country is infested with jihadis?
I do not believe in coincidences of that magnitude. Possible, but just barely. Far more likely it was jihadi arson.

There was previous restoration in the ´90´s. According to the man in charge, all the wiring was updated with multiple safeguards. He says outright that a short-circuit would have been "impossible."
He is likewise absolutely baffled about what kind of heat had to be present to get those massive oak beams ablaze --- oak beams that survived untold numbers of lightning strikes over 850 years.

#15, that was my first reaction too. Jihadis have not given up on their caliphate, combine that with the way they have treated the precious symbols of other world religions, despoiling Christian churches is a logical step. Let us hope and pray Holy Week sees no more of these travesties.

Hard to decide which knee-jerk reports to fall for, the preemptive declarations that it was not arson, or the ones producing unauthenticated video ´evidence´ showing suspicious figures on the roof or in the tower.
If I had to bet, I´d bet that neither of them is credible, and it will somehow turn out that both of them are wrong.

Some excerpts from the March 17th Geller report from their correspondent in France:
no electricity was allowed near the roof, because it was made in wood and as a matter of security, every inflamable thing was banned too.
“Work had not started yet, scaffoldings were still being built”
“All I can say for the time being is that at the moment of the fire, absolutely none of the employees of my company was present on site”
This 13th century timber frame was extremely protected. Each intervention is always accompanied by historians, architects, experts; no work is envisaged without extreme caution; no source of heat, no torch, no electrical apparatus is allowed
I saw one report that fire broke out in two spots simultaneously. Who knows...
