I have not read the article, but let me make a prediction:

1. Perp looks like a son that Obama never had
2. Victim is an elderly Hasidic Jewish man

Any takers?

Feral and out of control.

This is a deadly serious situation with no solution on the horizon. The "Amish" jokes stopped being funny 20 years ago.

Civilized America is being swallowed alive.

The statistics tell it all and here we are -- what to do?

The Amish jokes are not meant to be funny. They are meant to be ironic. We speculate the perpetrator is a member of the most law abiding group in the country, with the full knowledge that the opposite is true.
It also makes it harder to get criticized as the Amish don´t have a Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton to start riots for them.

If the law would start putting these Amish kids and their other family members in jail it just might send a message. I realize that jails are already crowded, etc. Build more jails. I would gladly contribute more taxes to help toward the building of jails. On second thought the mother of these kids should be thrown in jail with the kid for not doing her job raising the kid. I would include the father too, but I know he´s no where to be found.

#3 is right in many ways. Although humor is a defense mechanism there is no good reason for vulnerable people to have to fear walking American streets and we’ve been putting up with this nonsense for well over half a century. The likes of the boy who attacked this man will have to be dealt with eventually. If law enforcement and the courts can’t or won’t stop attacks on innocent people they’d damn well better not even try to further disarm the rest of us.

The article includes a surveillance camera photo of the perp. He is a Negro kid. (His religion, if any, is unknown.)
The victim said he didn´t plan to change his daily routine or walking route. He needs his head examined.

#8, and I carry a Colt Commander, in .45 Automatic Colt Pistol (.45 ACP) caliber every day. As one gets older, there is no doubt that we become an apparently more attractive target for these feral thugs, seemingly less able to run or fight. No doubt I am much less able to run compared to 20 years ago, but I can still fight effectively, thanks to John Browning´s genius design and Sam Colt´s manufacturing company.

I will never look for trouble, will always try to avoid it if I can, but I will defend myself if it becomes necessary.

Occasionally these thugs find someone prepared to defend themselves. One nationally known firearms instructor calls this, "A tragic failure in the victim selection process." Yeah, that.

Of course, this is NYC, so it is impossible for the unrich and unfamous to obtain a concealed carry permit.

But, there is a case before the US Supreme Court now that may reinstate the 2nd Amendment in NYC like it was reinstated in equally anti-gun rights Illinois. Illinois now has Shall Issue concealed carry. Perhaps NYC will have it, too.

"Negro"? That´s a blast from the past.

This horrible behavior is the result of a death culture created by "right to abortion," aka legal murder of the innocent, and stripping society of the Christian God. It started with taking prayer out of schools, and it´s gone downhill rapidly since. Moral relativity, no respect for the elderly or human life in general, I am a god unto myself, no consequences, and my rights and what I think matter over the common good. Oh, and racism makes me entitled.

The First Rule of gunfighting: Have a gun.

Exactly what model and style and caliber can be a topic for further, possibly interesting, discussion.

Whatever gun is necessary to permit a person to avoid violating the First Rule, is a good choice. And sometimes a J-frame or a Colt Cobra are handier for me, too.

Few things offend Bernie Sanders as much as people escaping from command-and-control government systems, even minority students whose parents are desperate to get their kids a decent education. The socialist wants to turn George Wallace on his head and not block black children from attending traditional public schools but block them from exiting them for something better. The New York Times the other day wrote a long, devastating report on the then-Burlington, Vt., mayor’s love affair with the Sandinistas in the 1980s. So many decades later, his reflex is the same: If the Sandinistas wouldn’t favor it, he’s not inclined to like it much, either.

A brazen thief stole chemotherapy medication from an Oklahoma City man’s doorstep just minutes after it was delivered, delaying his treatment for brain cancer. James Mills, 43, said his planned round of chemotherapy on Monday would not happen after a hooded suspect swiped the potentially life-saving delivery from his porch on Saturday. “I checked the door and didn’t see the package,” Mills told KFOR. “I double checked and they said it had been delivered. I check the security cameras, and I saw the UPS driver deliver it, then about eight minutes later another individual comes up, grabs it and takes off.”

Spurned Supreme Court nominee Merrick Garland — whose chance at a spot on the high court was derailed by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell — may have a key say on whether President Trump’s financial records are released to the House. Trump’s lawyers on Tuesday appealed a lower court’s decision ordering that the records be released to the House Oversight Committee to the Washington, DC, Circuit Court of Appeals — which Garland heads as chief judge. President Barack Obama nominated Garland to replace Justice Antonin Scalia in 2016 after Scalia’s death. But McConnell refused to even schedule a meeting of the Senate Judiciary Committee to consider Garland’s nomination,

It’s all a show, meant to keep old news in the headlines, and to appease the large “Impeach Now!” wing of the Democratic Party without actually doing anything. Everyone on Judiciary knows perfectly well that Congress can’t compel testimony from top presidential advisers except in the most extraordinary circumstances: The chief executive’s right to frank, confidential discussions with his staff is well-established. There's a recurring theme in American science fiction where the country loses its way, endures some horrible but cleansing disaster, and then rediscovers the blessings of liberty. You'll find it in Robert Heinlein's "Future History" stories, where the Crazy Years -- a period of rapid technological advances, decaying social norms, and mass psychosis -- leads to the backlash of a religious dictatorship. The Prophets regime is eventually toppled by a liberty-loving group dedicated to individual rights. The theme is even more pronounced in Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged, where a socialist regime puts the country into another Great Depression, only worse. The country's capitalists
