Monty Python´s Terry Gilliam: ´I´m tired of being, as a white male, blamed for everything´

Former director and Monty Python member Terry Gilliam lamented the change in comedy culture in a new interview, saying he’s tired of being “blamed for everything” because he’s a white male. In an interview published Monday by The Wall Street Journal, Mr. Gillam spoke about Monty Python’s 1979 comedy film “Life of Brian” and how “it would be a fight” to get some of those jokes onscreen today. He also addressed comments made last year by BBC comedy chief Shane Allen, who said any modern-day sketch show wouldn’t feature “six Oxbridge white blokes.”(Snip) “The idea is that we’re already excluded

A color blind society does not keep score based upon color.

The very act of ´trying to fix things´ ensures they will remain broken.

A truly ´inclusive´ society would not even KNOW they are being inclusive because score is no longer being taken.

Big Monty Python fan here. Mr. Gilliam says, "...(N)ow we can’t laugh at anybody because it causes offense." Quite true.

The perpetually offended, walking about with their lower lips protruding, have excised a lot of fun from our lives. That´s for our own good, of course. Next time, having written us off as irredeemable, they plan to beat us senseless, or worse, this time for the good of the earth. But they too can be introduced face first to same (as Charlie Chan might have said). Two can play that game.

Years ago on campus one could have a civilized disagreement with an ideological opposite, and walk away less than pugilistic combatants. When well directed wit and condign ridicule cause some portsiders to become unhinged to the point of dressing in black, covering their faces, and attacking us en masse, they´re making it necessary for us to break them. Physically and psychologically. These people are overcome by evil. They will lose.

In the days before PC, circa 1970, Monty Python had a segment on boxing, including an evil looking John Cleese in boxing trunks "beating the daylights" out of a sweet 15-year-old schoolgirl in a boxing ring. Sort of equivalent to transsexual "girls" with XY chromosomes defeating actual girls in athletic contests. Here´s 31 seconds worth:

Great coment OP, and also dead-on #8. Recently heard it said even the exquisitely humored series ´The Office´ would not pass muster today. So I watched a few and it´s true. The harmless pokes of humor would most certainly not pass muster in the straight-jacketed views of PC today. But things like ´humor´ is a bit of human nature - it´ll just go underground and mutate. Both Republicans who Donald Trump endorsed won their special congressional elections Tuesday night in North Carolina, delivering the president a symbolic victory as his re-election season gets underway. The two contests, months in the making, were seen as referenda on whether the president could hold on to majorities in red states that propelled him to the Oval Office. Republican Greg Murphy won his Third Congressional District handily, holding on to a seat left vacant when Rep. Walter Jones died in February. The other race, a more hotly contested Ninth Congressional District battle, was a dead heat in the final pre-election polls.
