California is essentially a one-party state at this point so whatever Democrats want to do is what is going to happen. One of the things they are apparently thinking about doing now is getting rid of natural gas appliances in homes and businesses. The idea is to replace millions of gas stoves, gas dryers and gas heaters with replacements that run on electricity to help fight climate change. From the Los Angeles Times: Among the sources of climate change pollution, cars and power plants get the most attention.

After all electricity is generated by rainbows and moonbeams. In the mean time the lunatics continue to abuse their taxpayers.

They can have my gas water after they pry it from my cold dead hands. Seriously, I don’t recall any of the outright Eastern European communist hellholes even pulling that stunt!

Electricity prices will sky rocket even further. Who could afford to live there? What will they do when CA is full of illegals living on the dole, from whom do they confiscate the money then?

Maybe they can put herds of Unicorns on treadmills to generate electricity. In that looney state, they´d probably believe it.
(Sorry, Conservatives out there...both of you.)

It´s like the green new deal that is a logistical impossibility. But liberals get points for their "compassion" and their "concern".
These absolute pipe dreams are impossible to implement.

Great - coal powered stoves, water heaters, clothes dryers etc. I laugh at people who drive electric cars. They have no clue how their electricity is generated.

Well what are they going to do about all the coastal LA area (and San Diego, Santa Barbara, etc, etc, etc) appartments that have Natural gas heating. I remembered when we first moved to CA and they change to just one long rectangular unit on the wall. i bet most of those apartments are still there, still with those small gas heaters that were perfectly fine for the occasional low 50 or high 40 day.

Oh, boy! This is great. My house value goes up ten grand more every time one of these nutty stories about the Kaleefourneeyah Democratic Socialist diktums comes out. Californians by the millions will be needing a new place to live and for now, Nevada seems like Utopia to them. Unfortunately, the last election, Nevadans bought the Koolaid and went totally Rat in state government, so in a few years, we will be the Socialist Hell California is now.

That doesn´t even make any sense. But I guess if you consider Bill Nye an Expert on Climate Change, anything is possible.

This is not as bad an idea as electric cars, which if you just had a natural gas engine in it it would go more than twice as far on the same amount of CNG.
Electric cars would even be more efficient if you had a CNG electric generator onboard instead of batteries.
But electricity production is also hydro and nuclear and wind and solar so there may be an offset.
This will have zero effect on climate. The new religion is in power grabbing mode.

When I see articles like this, it clues me in on the type of leaders in California. These leaders must have zero or next to nothing of a faith walk. Don´t they realize that the creator can handle all of this? God doesn´t need our help; after all, he was there from the beginning.

Wait . . . isn´t natural gas clean? California wants to move to electric appliances. How do we get all that electricity? It isn´t all coming from wind and sun. We have to generate it somehow.
Perhaps California would prefer the primitive way of generating heat for cooking, etc.: Fire. That would work really well in a state susceptible to drought and massive forest/brush fires now wouldn´t it?! How many trees would California need to chop down for said fire to fry its bacon and boil its beans?

Easy #4, they will turn to the feds. Cali is too big to fail. The Cali pols are counting on it. Not sacr.

Wasn´t a power company just found libel for starting those huge fires? Now the state wants everything going electric. I guess they figure the power company has to find a way to pay that huge fine for starting the fires.

Extremely inefficient, extremely stupid, as usual.
Natural gas is moved to your home with pipelines, by far the most efficient way to distribute any physical material. The losses of energy are perhaps 1%, maybe less, during transportation. When NG or LPG/propane is burned in your home appliance, they have efficiencies of heating that are in the 85-97% range.
When any fuel (coal or NG) is used to create electricity, the efficiency of a central power station is typically 30 to 35%, meaning that 65% to 70% of the energy in the coal or NG is wasted. This makes sense for things which ONLY electricity can accomplish, such as powering your TV or computer. When the electricity, with 65-70% of the original energy wasted goes to a home and heats water, this is just stupid.
So, we compare 30-35% efficiency to deliver heat (actually a bit worse to due transmission losses) versus about 85-97% efficiency burning it on site.
These people really are idiots. They imagine that this is "free" electricity from solar and wind, but the reality is that those provide only something like 5-7% of electrical power. A decade ago it was under 1%, and we have literally wasted BILLIONS on this stupid damned boondoggle of wind and solar power.
The reality is that 93-95% of electrical grid power is from coal and natural gas, and at an efficiency of 30-35%, so heating ANYTHING with electricity, rather than piping the gas to the appliance, is literally throwing away two thirds to three quarters of the energy you paid for.
