LUBBOCK, TX - Many Texas Tech fans are feeling it after celebrations of the Red Raiders’ underdog win over Michigan State Saturday night quickly got out of hand. (Snip) what started with fans setting articles of clothing on fire was stepped up by fans then burning a couch, a controversial tradition of students at Michigan State University. Eventually a car parked on Broadway was flipped over as fans climbed on top, nearby speakers playing the new song by Hip Hop artist, Lil Naz X, “Old Town Road,” that has become an anthem

Well just when I thought Tech was the team, hope they lose BIG!

OP Comment: Trying to disperse the crowds, LE finally went on to SWAT teams, K-9 units and tear gas.

Agent K said it best: "A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky, dangerous animals, and you know it!"
Reality of the drunk mob is fist fights, fire, and flipped cars.

The people in Lubbock are so supportive of Texas Tech I can´t believe the kids acted like that. My first comment (I apologize to Michiganders) was that it sounded like Detroit when they win anything big. In fact, Detroit acts like this on Halloween sometimes. I am so so so disappointed. They´ve ruined the joy.

Texans, eh? Probably a lot of foreign students swelling the student body and told to do it.

Sports "fans" is indeed the correct word. They´ll go NUTS because a sports team lost but not when a conspiracy attempts a coup on a sitting president?
That requires too much actual thinking, and Edison said that 85% of Americans would rather die than think.
Americans truly deserve what their country is going to get.

Re #9, I beg your pardon? Some rowdies - who may not even be students - go wild in the street and at least one person condemns the entire country, every American?
What foreign paradise bestowed such a person on us?

FWIW, I attended grad school at the University of Michigan. After every game against Michigan State, there was always a stupidly drunken rowdy event. I don´t recall riots, but I never went close to campus during those times.

Texas Tech, sadly, just doesn´t have much of a history of winning. They have always been a lesser school in the shadow of UT, A&M, TCU, SMU, Baylor, and even U of H and Rice!!!!
They just don´t know how to handle it. Sad!!!
Of course, it´s not shocking that any time to find destruction and violence, you find hip hop and rap as the soundtrack "music"!!!!

Don´t get too agitated about this. The ´Li´l Naz´ song was a remix of an old Billy Ray Cyrus country song, and was no. 1 on the country charts until Billboard realized they had a black rapper on top of the country charts and backtracked big time. Google it. Sounds more country than Billy Ray´s version. These folks are not out destroying businesses like Detroit would. I´ll bet you dollars to donuts there´s been no looting. That weren´t no riot. The Rangers weren´t sent in. (Only one Ranger would have been needed - one riot, one Ranger, as the old saying goes) It was a rowdy bunch of good ol´ boys and girls getting a little carried away. Plus it gave the Lubbock SWAT team something to do! Whole lot of equipment that doesn´t get used much at all, so they are glad of the chance to join in the fun and shoot off a little teargas! Seriously, the TV station in Lubbock doesn´t get an opportunity to call something a home-grown ´riot´ very often, so you´ve got to pardon their exuberance.

I have lived in Texas most of my life. I have seen the Dallas Cowboys win and lose multiple Super Bowls. I have seen the Rockets and Spurs win and lose the NBA championship multiple times. I have seen the Astros and Rangers win and lose World Series games.
I have seen UT, A&M, Baylor, Rice and other major and minor Texas colleges and universities win and lose multiple bowls and national championship games in many different sports.
I have never seen all the "good old boys and girls" who were fans of these teams and schools ever do anything that resembled a riot in the least!!!!!
No, Tech fans definitely blew this one, and cost themselves a lot of support on Monday night!!! Just dumb!!!!

Hey, the Baylor women won the NCAA women´s basketball champeenship tonight - you mean there wasn´t some unwarranted exuberance around Chip and Joanna´s silos this evening? There sure as heck would have been when I went there! Of course Baylor never won as much as a tic-tac-toe tourney when I was there, and the girls still had to wear dresses to class except for Fridays . . .
But really - don´t put too much store in the news reports version of what happened. You all should know that by now. Wait and see what comes out.

Somehow I doubt that the Baylor women’s fans were out jumping on top of cars and turning them over. Some things go far beyond exuberance, whether in Detroit or Lubbock.

Hmph. Were I still at Baylor (ablative case used there, learned at Baylor), me and my roommates [sic] would have given it a danged good college try. Before Abner McCall (or Angus McSwain) booted me/us from the premises. One couch traded for a national championship - fair trade. I think we would have tried to throw the burning couch into the pool at our flea-ridden apartment complex. Nothing/no one else dared go in that pool. There was a time when average-income families could actually afford to send their kids to Baylor. But not since BU was infected with SMU envy.
