In a stunning about-face, State Department officials said that President Donald Trump is cutting off all direct assistance to the so-called Northern Triangle countries of El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala. “At the Secretary’s instruction, we are carrying out the President’s direction and ending FY [fiscal year] 2017 and FY 2018 foreign assistance programs for the Northern Triangle,” a State Department spokesperson told ABC News, referring to U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. “We will be engaging Congress as part of this process.” These three countries are the primary source of migrants to the U.S., but for years the U.S.

Excellent move. Now start shipping back their garbage that has showed up here, esp the damned MS-13 animals.

#1, there´s no need to insult animals by comparing them to MS-13.

Start taxing transfer payments at the same time. Make a government issued ID with picture (not drivers licenses!) necessary to send the money.

When 20% of one of those countries empties out, this should have been done a long time ago. The border should be closed now.

I would bet that Trump raised his Children the way he´s dealing with those countries. He gave them just so many chances to do what they´re supposed to do, after that, he lowers the Boom and cuts off their money! Time for the countries who have been getting millions of our dollars to make THEIR country better, but instead they are using those dollars to line their own pockets. Meanwhile, their people are starving. Well, time to teach the lessonL. you don´t do what you´re supposed to do, NO MONEY! I think MEXICO is very soon going to be taught that same lesson. They have been saying they will stop the flow across their Border, but in reality they do nothing to stop it!! Watch Trump shut down the Border between Mexico and the U.S.! Lesson learned!

i can only sit here flabbergasted. if a disinterested third party from mars were to view the situation he would also be flabbergasted as to why it took the best and the brightest so long to figure out that financial sting would be an easy way to
get these peopl´s minds right.

Apparently, these countries get so much money from us that we´re still hauling dollars from FY17 over to them. Please stop sending money there, Germany, and elsewhere. Then, tell the American people how much money we´ve saved and put it towards paying down the debt. When we see what we were spending and are now keeping, we´ll want to see more. Then start shutting down government agencies and do the same. Do this and Americans will dance in the streets! Oh, and don´t forget to cut taxes! That´s always a winner.
Speaking of the State Department: I was part of the embassy community some years ago, and Americans would be stunned at the amount of money that leaves this country and is doled out almost indiscriminately to various factions in different countries. And, America diplomats around the world live and travel like royalty. They get vacation AND R&R, very nice housing, servants, and expense accounts, all taxpayer funded and for "service" to their country. Their service, based on their benefits package, is considered much more worthy than that of our military. I know, I experienced both.

Should have done this years ago. The money we give them goes into someone´s back pocket just like Puerto Rico.

MAGA!!! KAG!!! Personally, I´m still asking why we pay other countries to not hate us--any country. If they need a loan, charge them interest--like China does. Stop giving taxpayer money to anyone!

I could sit here and write Nancy Pelosi´s upcoming speech over this move. The poor little children and their obese mothers will all be starving now and go without medical care, probably while sitting in cages.

Well done, but essentially small potatoes. Mexico should have been first to feel the pain: closed border, stop or tax remittances, etc.

We need to stop paying for food, housing, education, and medical care of illegal immigrants. That´s their problem, not mine.

#15, if we do hear it, just tell ´em, "tough".
And if they get obnoxious and ´in your face´ punch ´em in the nose. That will generally shut the snowflakes down.

Citizenship is not a right...it´s a privilege. Even if you are American-born. It´s no shock to see other country´s citizens behaving as if they are "owed" the privileges of citizenship when they see so many Americans demanding that their own government should provide their livelihood--and not the conditions that allow them to make it for themselves. When the "democratic socialists" scream for free college, free health care, free food and money-for-no-work--is anyone surprised our borders are rushed?

This is an excellent move! It hurts the people who hold all the power in these hell holes: The corrupt politicians who pocket much of what we send. It won´t come as a surprise if they suddenly find miraculous ways to stem the tide of emigrants from their failed countries, but I suppose it´s too much to hope that they´ll actually solve some their own social and economic problems.
The policy of taxing remittances has always seemed like a no-brainer; it should have been enacted years ago, imo. 10% of every transaction would easily pay for our wall. But I´d never thought of requiring a picture ID in order to send money. Even though there would be ways for some to avoid it by having friends send money for them, there would still have to be a large number of ID´s issued in order for them to do so. Great idea!

With a flood of people from Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala coming to invade our country, it is obvious that all this aid sent to these countries is not reaching these people.
If the United States is going to be stuck for caring for these people in our country because Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala do not take care of them there, it only makes sense to divert this money to where the people are here.

Good idea to require a passport to send money, it establishes traceable illegal presence in the USA. When I buy Euros or Pounds at the airport here they always take down my passport number. Why not do the same for Illegals who have a higher likelihood of laundering drug money? Do that in the name of the opioid crisis. Cancel all Chain Migration until Democrats give US a merit based system. End Anchor Baby Privilege and run it through the courts before DACA is invalidated by the Supreme Court. These illiterate people’s have abused our Welfare System too long. If Mexico does not stop the caravans, we return to pre-NAFTA WTO trade.

Closing the border will hurt Mexico more than any aid we pay them. Shut it down for one week and you will see Mexico out there with heavy equipment, building the wall. And paying for it!
