CLEARWATER — Keondrae Brown was just 14 when bailiffs ?wheeled him into a courtroom in 2017, his bruised, bandaged face the latest symbol of Pinellas County’s deadly, juvenile-fueled car theft epidemic. His 16-year-old brother and two friends had died in the fiery wreck of a stolen SUV. Keondrae was the only survivor. “The problem is that these kids could have cared less about their crimes,” Pinellas Sheriff Bob Gualtieri told the Tampa Bay Times then. “They had no concern whatsoever about the juvenile justice system.” Now 15, Keondrae is still in the same juvenile justice system and in the same

Sounds as though they revel in the commission of crimes. Gives them a charge. A thrill. They should be gotten off the street before anyone else loses his life because of them.

Sub head could have quoted sheriff Gualtieri:
The problem is that these kids could have cared less about their crimes,” and “They had no concern whatsoever about the juvenile justice system
It´s why he´s sheriff and we´re not: insight and experience.

And there are certain politicians in our government who want 16 year old children to vote. Sure. Why not? What could possible go wrong? Here is a perfect candidate.

Within a few years he probably will be dead (by police or gang members) and we’ll hear how he was just turning his life around.

Note to prospective parents:
If you choose to name your son "Keondrae" don´t be surprised when he has a felony criminal record by the time he is 16 years old.

Before too long he will be charged and tried as an adult, and I use the term loosely. We can only hope that the youths he kills in the process are also in possession of 100+ felonies each, and not some law-abiding person simply in the wrong place with her children.
These kids only just barely meets the biological criteria for HUMAN, certainly not anything beyond that.

I wonder if he is a young black man judging by his first name. Not being racist but enquiring minds want to know. Maybe he is in a car theft gang and trying to make a name for himself. Apparently, they don´t have midnight basketball where he lives otherwise this could have been prevented. My bet he will be a leading candidate for the Darwin later this year. Good luck son and let us know how things work out ok.

#9, he is human. I think his mother should be punished alongside the boy. He is, only, a boy. I used to and still do blame these horrible situations on the absence of no father in the home. I then have to believe there wouldn´t be a fatherless home if the mother would have had enough of a moral code to not allow a man to impregnate her without the benefit of marriage. This young boy is an example of the result of a fatherless home and a mom somewhere, (home, maybe?) likely on food stamps, welfare and sleeping with yet another man most likely making another baby. Perhaps, doing drugs?
This is a 15 year old. Who will show him the way? Who loves him? And he is only one of likely hundreds if not thousands of Keondrae Browns in this country that are left to fend for themselves.
There isn´t enough midnight basketball, after school activities, free breakfasts and lunches that can take the place of a loving mom and dad. That makes me sad.

I followed the link to the article about the previous accident (the one that killed his brother and two friends). They were quite a little crime wave, roaring around town all night until they were killed at 4:30 a.m. after hitting another car. Luckily, the occupant of the car they hit (at 117 mph) wasn´t killed and had relatively minor injuries considering the force involved.
I can´t work up much sympathy for the dead ones - they saved the taxpayers having to support them in prison for the rest of their lives after their inevitable lifetime incarceration for murder. Yes, one of them was waving a gun around, so you know it was just a matter of time before he killed someone.

I know what the sheriff is trying to say when he states "he could have cared less", but it gets on my last nerve when I hear someone say that. it should be "couldn´t have cared less".

The boy has dead eyes, probably an extremely low IQ. He needs a a mental evaluation and with that many major previous offenses how come he´s not in some juvenile detention center?

Keondrae and Keontae. Cute huh?
Momma dreamed of her babez growing up to be NFL wide recievers making impossible catches and dancing the funky monkey in the endzone.
There’s not much chance she’ll get that Jaguar SUV and big house in Tampa now.

All the understanding and sympathy in the world does not change the facts, they are, in fact, irrelevant and immaterial to the situation. He is a killer, a stone cold killer. When we look to the promise of what might be we lose sight of what is.
Given the road he has paved for himself he will in all likelihood kill again. His fatherless home, his incompetent mother, and the mean streets he must live on do not have to add up to who he must be. Plenty under the very same circumstances do not follow this path. Reward those who have earned it and not those who have not.

When my oldest son was 17, he didn´t come home one night, so I called the local police.
They said they couldn´t do anything until he was gone for 48 hours, as I recall.
I told them to hell with that stupid rule.
He showed up a few minutes later, and I made him call the police to report that he was home.
It turned out he was at a girl´s house.
And he never pulled that stunt again.
These kids are out roaming all night, while momma is clubbing/partying.
That is at the heart of the matter.

These things are happening with such regularity amongst the black community. We are getting desensitized with the news and identifying the criminals makes it predictable when stereotyping kicks in.

Keondrae Brown lawless behavior is sadly indicative of a segment of the black culture that were raised without fathers in their lives.

#12 Makes a point but many of these feral kids are being raised by grandmothers who cannot control them.
These young people of both colors do not have empathy. It´s a feel good moment.
Florida has a man that not only killed his pregnant GF but a cop. He represented himself, then he had a public defender. This has gone on for two years, now the judge wants to retire. Milking it for all it´s worth to stay out of prison.

The 2017 accident that killed all but Keondrae terminated in the street directly in front of the local Ferrari dealership. At the instant of the T-bone crash with the Camry, the stolen Ford Explorer was traveling at 106 mph and became airborne before hitting five parked cars and bursting into flames, incinerating the two who weren´t ejected onto the macadam. This ruined kid won´t see his eighteenth birthday.
