Brett Kavanaugh and the
’rule of four’

Washington Post, by Hugh Hewitt

The modern confirmation process for the Supreme Court is full of rules: the “Ginsburg Rule,” the “Biden Rule,” the “Reid Rule ” and the “McConnell Rule.” Often their definitions and their relevance are hotly contested. What isn’t contested is that the court itself has a widely recognized and easily understood rule: the “rule of four.” That rule is key to understanding the full impact of confirming Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh to the court. The rule of four holds that for the court to grant certiorari to hear and decide a case, four of its members must vote to do so.

Chief Judas John Roberts will have his sails trimmed with Kavanaugh on board.

Meanwhile, Obie and his Deep State are quietly working on plans to disrupt the confirmation process. Obie, how is this going? Any news, bro?

Yup, and it is what the Left is REALLY worried about. They conjure up Roe v Wade goblins to terrify their base but that´s not where the concern really is. Can you imagine trying to gin up some fear over the internal mechanisms of how the SCOTUS selects cases to hear? It would be like trying to get people riled up over lawn mowing.

The truth is, it will matter a great deal but it doesn´t translate well to personal concern and fear, the fuel for the Left.

As Trump´s conservative appointments take root in lower courts, their rulings can be affirmed simply by SCOTUS not taking the case. There will also be less liberal silliness bubbling up from the lower courts. Just one more SCOTUS replacement and it could block most liberal cases already rejected by lower courts. Liberals would not only lose their cases, they would lose the audience they crave that is associated with SCOTUS cases.

When Trump wins a second term and continues to appoint Conservatives to all the courts, he will easily be the largest Conservative influence of any president and perhaps the most lasting.

BTW NeverTrumpers; "But Gorsuch, But Kavanaugh, "But the most justices appointed for lower courts.". Enough for you? Probably not. But more than enough for the voters.

I can reveal the secret plan.
Delay.
Demand ALL the documents from the Bush White House. Go back and demand all papers Kavanaugh ever wrote, back to kindergarten. Demand all emails, all phone calls, everything.
Then drag the hearings out with fake witnesses, like Anita Hill.
Then put pressure on weak Dems not to vote for him.
I figure Schemer can take up to three years for all this to happen.
It is going to be a real circus.

I care not much for Hewitt, but this is good news with the bonus that my assessment of Kennedy as a fatuous headline-craving moron is somewhat buttressed.

Liberals, you’re not as smart aS you think

I know many liberals, and two of them really are my best friends. Liberals make good movies and television shows. Their idealism has been an inspiration for me and many others. Many liberals are very smart. But they are not as smart, or as persuasive, as they think. And a backlash against liberals — a backlash that most liberals don’t seem to realize they’re causing — is going to get President Trump re-elected. People often vote against things instead of voting for them: against ideas, candidates and parties. Democrats, like Republicans, appreciate this whenever they portray their opponents as negatively

Barbara Bush was everybody’s grandmother. White haired, a tad overweight, and unafraid to speak truth to power, she made no pretense to glamour, and the American people loved her for it. She died Tuesday at age 92, closing the book on the longest marriage of a president and first lady in U.S. history. Barbara Pierce was 16 when she met her future husband, then a handsome naval aviator, at a Christmas dance. He was 17 and soon off to fight in World War II, where he would name three of the planes he flew after her: Barbara, Barbara II, Barbara III. They married

Republican Jeff Flake delivered a speech Thursday at the annual ´Politics and Eggs´ event at Saint Anselm College in New Hampshire. Flake said that during the administration of President Donald Trump, conservatives were an endangered species and the Republican Party had surrendered to a "propaganda-fueled dystopian view." Flake, who recently called for a 2020 Republican primary challenger against President Trump, is in the group of people who might do just that. "I haven´t ruled it out," he told CNN later in this same day. "I stand before you today the rarest of species," the retiring moderate Republican

Prince Charles and Prince William reportedly ‘snubbed’ the US President during his visit to Britain - leaving the Queen to meet Donald Trump alone at Windsor Castle. The royal father and son apparently shared their desire to not take part in the arrangements during informal discussions regarding the president’s four-day tour. Trump’s trip was not a state visit and so only the Queen greeted the president and his wife Melania. However even on working trips dignitaries expect to see more members of the royal family than only the Queen. When deciding which royals to include in the meeting, senior courtiers shared concerns about

FBI Agent Peter Strzok, who worked on the Hillary Clinton email investigation and the investigation of possible ties between Russia and the Trump campaign testified under oath in a congressional hearing on Thursday that FBI agents can engage in some types of adultery. Strzok was asked “what action” he would take if he found out one of his subordinates was conducting an “extramarital affair.” “It depends,” said Strzok. “If it was against the FBI’s regulation in terms of if it was somebody in their chain of command, above or below them, which is inappropriate or not allowed by regulation, I would

The man who co-wrote “The Art of the Deal” said Sunday he believes President Trump’s faculties are diminishing — and that he feels obligated to sound the alarm. “We are in a true emergency,” Tony Schwartz said on CNN Sunday. “And the accelerated rate at which his breakdown or decompensation is occurring is cause for us, and certainly for me, to come on to TV more often, to tweet more often.” Schwartz told CNN’s Brian Stelter that he felt comfortable making that assessment because he had “spent an enormous time with [Trump] over a period of 18 months.”(snip)Stelter pointed out that Schwartz

Judge Brett Kavanaugh is going into the Supreme Court confirmation process with a hail of rhetorical arrows zinging by him, including a phony letter-writing campaign aimed at unsuspecting American newspaper editors. At least 21 papers were duped last week, including big-market brands like the Dallas Morning News and The Washington Times. They ran identical letters over a four-day period, each signed by a different person. The effort is an example of public-relations ´astroturfing,´ a technique meant to simulate genuine grassroots support for an idea or cause. Watching FBI agent Peter Strzok battle with Congress, my initial reaction was pure anger. His repeated, arrogant insistence that he had done nothing wrong despite tons of evidence to the contrary convinced me he deserved immediate firing — if not the firing squad. Gradually, though, anger gave way to amazement as Strzok grew increasingly combative and condescending. Given his predicament, the sneering and smirking were stupid, and yet he persisted. Who is this jerk, I wondered, and how in the hell did he get to be a big shot at the FBI? And why are taxpayers still paying for the privilege of

A 13-year-old girl in Alabama was beheaded because she saw her Sinaloa Cartel-associated granny stabbed to death by drug traffickers, authorities have said. Mariah Lopez, 13, and her grandmother Oralia Mendoza, 49, were killed on June 4 in Moon Cemetery outside of Huntsville, Alabama, prosecutors revealed in court on Thursday. The new details in the case came in a hearing for 26-year-old Yoni Aguilar, who along with 34-year-old Israel Palomino is charged with two counts each of capital murder in the slayings. At the hearing, investigators testified that the grandmother Mendoza had ties to the Sinaloa Cartel,

Moscow - When President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia sits down with President Trump in Helsinki, Finland, on Monday for a meeting he has long wanted, he will already have accomplished virtually everything he could reasonably hope for. All he really needs to make his meeting with Mr. Trump a success is for it to take place without any major friction — providing a symbolic end to Western efforts to isolate Russia over its actions against Ukraine in 2014, its meddling in the United States election in 2016 and other examples of what the United States Treasury Department has described as Russia’s “malign activity” around the

President Trump signed an executive order in June to allow migrant children to stay with parents who were caught crossing the border illegally.
