What the health of the body politic
needs now

Our body politic operates much like our own bodies, alternating between different levels of awareness and activity as it experiences and responds to stimuli. The parasympathetic nervous system, for example, helps the body to “rest and digest”—to function in specific ways while relaxed and calm. It is the state conducive to healing, growth, change. The sympathetic nervous system, on the other hand, is the body’s go-to source of energy and focus in “fight or flight” situations that increases the body’s ability to respond in times of stress—

The commentary starts off a little slow, but it once she gets to the meat of it, her comments are absolutely correct.

Fox News host Dana Perino on Thursday night called for congressional hearings to be taken off-camera following a wild hearing with FBI agent Peter Strzok earlier in the day. Perino slammed Democrats for an "outrageous" suggestion Strzok deserved a Purple Heart and scolded Republicans for "overboard" questions that "felt like a public lynching" during Strzok´s testimony to the House Judiciary and House Oversight and Government Reform committees. The comments from the former George W. Bush press secretary came after Strzok´s testimony dominated headlines and broadcast news on Thursday.

Hillary Clinton had strong words for the Trump administration and Republicans on Friday while addressing the American Federation of Teachers, saying the fundamental rights of Americans are what’s at stake this November. Speaking at the labor union’s conference in Pittsburgh, Mrs. Clinton slammed the administration’s separations of families at the border as inhumane and indecent. “I believe with all my heart that the test of any society is how we treat the most vulnerable among us, particularly our youngest, our oldest, our people with disabilities, and right now, my friends, our country is failing that test,” she said. “We have

There may not have been much new substance revealed during Peter Strzok’s testimony, as Jazz predicted, but everyone got to watch a lot of score-settling. Republicans in the hearing went after Strzok, Strzok went after them, Democrats and Republicans fought with and talked over each other, and voters got another reason to either cheer or boo depending on who was talking at the moment. [snip] How bad were the disconnects? No one seemed to agree how Strzok ended up at the table today, let alone what he could be asked. Strzok ended up facing a charge of contempt of Congress

Rep. Steve Cohen, D-Tenn., said he regrets telling FBI agent Peter Strzok in Thursday’s House Judiciary and House Oversight committee hearing that he deserves a Purple Heart medal for his testimony. “I said something at the hearings yesterday about Purple Hearts which another network that is named for a four-legged animal has been making a big deal about,” Cohen told CNN, referring to criticism from Fox News. “I regret using the term ‘Purple Heart,’” he continued. “I used it metaphorically, not literally. I never literally thought the Purple Heart should be given to agent Strzok. But I do believe that

Televised congressional hearings are the political equivalent of a telethon without any money being raised for charity. The House hearing today with Peter Strzok, the disgraced FBI agent, was as partisan as one could expect, with Democrats propping up the man who tried to overturn the last presidential election. Forget Russian collusion. This was worse: Deep State interference. The newsers rallied round their anti-democratic hero.(Snip )But Melissa Quinn of the Washington Examiner tweeted the highlight of the day: "Holy moly, Louie Gohmert went there: ´I can’t help but wonder when I see you looking there with a little smirk how many times

Georgia police were on the hunt Friday for four women who they say started an all-out brawl at an Applebee’s after their waitress bumped up against one of their knees. The wild fight was captured on surveillance footage late Tuesday night at one of the restaurant’s locations in McDonough. "One suspect grabs a knife and cuts her in the arm and the other suspect punches her,” McDonough Police Det. T.F. Spangenberg told FOX5 Atlanta. (Snip) Video of the brawl shows punches being thrown as the unidentified women gang up on the waitress. As she tries to defend herself, the table the group

The indictment Friday of 12 Russian military officers for the election hacks against the DNC and Hillary Clinton’s campaign lends a surprising new detail to the 2016 election interference timeline: The Kremlin’s hackers apparently still maintained a foothold in the DNC’s network four months after the Democrats announced that they’d locked the intruders out. Until today, the story of the DNC hack ended promptly on June 14, 2016, when the Democrats went public with the intrusion in the pages of the Washington Post, and Crowdstrike, the security firm hired to respond to the breach, published a detailed technical account. Today’s indictment confirms

Peter Strzok admitted to Congress on Thursday that he “detested” Donald Trump and was rooting for Hillary Clinton to win the 2016 election. “You were both rooting for Hillary Clinton to win and you both detested Donald Trump, were you not?” Republican Ohio Rep. Steve Chabot asked Strzok during a joint congressional hearing. “I think that’s fair to say,” said Strzok. While acknowledging his animus to Trump, Strzok insisted in Thursday’s hearing that bias did not affect his work on the Trump-Russia investigation. Strzok led the investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian government as deputy chief

Rather, the DNC emails were obtained through a “spear phishing” email scam which THOUSANDS of others, including Republicans fell for. So Donald Trump went to a NATO summit, insulted our allies, then made the absurd demand not just that they increase defense spending — which they should — but that they raise it to 4 percent of G.D.P., much higher than the bloated military spending in his own budget. He then claimed, falsely, to have won major concessions, and graciously declared that it is “presently unnecessary” to consider quitting the alliance. Was there anything our allies could have done that would have mollified him? The answer, surely, is no. For Trump, disrupting NATO doesn’t seem to be a means to an

Democrats hold a massive voter lead in states that require party registration, a gap of 12 million that could be key to whether the party takes control of the House and Senate in the fall midterm congressional elections, according to a new analysis. Overall, 40 percent of voters in 31 party registration states are Democrats, 29 percent are Republicans, and 28 percent are independents, according to a new report of July numbers from the University of Virginia’s Center for Politics. The states include several with key battles over House seats such as California, New York, Florida, and Pennsylvania.
