Modern humans´ distant relatives left Africa earlier than previously thought—rewriting a key chapter in humankind´s epic prequel, according to a discovery unveiled on Wednesday in Nature. Nearly a hundred stone tools found at the Shangchen site in central China may push back the spread of our ancient cousins—hominins—out of Africa by more than a quarter million years. The toolmakers lived at Shangchen on and off for 800,000 years between 2.1 and 1.3 million years ago, leaving behind tools that are unprecedented outside of Africa. The site´s oldest tools are roughly 300,000 years older than Dmanisi, a 1.8-million-year-old site in the Republic of

Thought it was an article about Nancy Pelosi.

I reached the conclusion a long time ago that we seem to have a need to explain things we don´t understand. Then when any evidence comes along that contradicts our explanations of what we don´t know we dig our heels in and resist. I suspect we could be wrong on many aspects of human development.

At some point they need to admit that the evidence that humans "came out of Africa" in the first place is very, very flimsy. It´s based on a tiny handful of bone fragments, etc. These were found in Africa, but that doesn´t mean similar things don´t or didn´t exist elsewhere. "Absence of evidence isn´t evidence of absence." Since it´s the only evidence they have, they should simply say MAYBE humans originated there. Instead they talk and act act as if it´s established scientific fact. Hmmm, reminds me of another area of science that has been corrupted by financial and political agendas... (And the hominid named "Algore Stupidicus")

Another stunning development - - -

Archaeologists in Hoboken, New Jersey have uncovered a three-million year old spaghetti strainer - - indicating that early humanoids traveled there from Italy at least one million years before any humans left Africa.

Traces of tomato sauce and basil are also being studied.

Frankly, the ´Out-of-Africa´ meme for man´origins was created, whole-cloth, because someone pictured Africa as a possible Garden of Eden. The only reason this theory has any traction, is that all of the research and grant money has been geared toward validating it.
There is very little actual proof for this argument. If you look for something, and find it, then refuse to look anywhere else for answers, how are you any more a scientist than these global warming frauds?

Those "tools" look like rocks to me. And how can they say with any degree of certainty how old they are. They compared them to other artifacts that had been previously "dated." What if that dating was inaccurate? When trying to estimate (yes, estimate) the ages of things allegedly millions (or billions) of years old, would the tiniest error completely through things off? And how long can matter exist? Everything else on earth decays and crumbles over time. But "evidence" of pre-historic life lasts forever, apparently.

Each part of the narrative for the origins of humans seems to be subject to being adjusted and rearranged whenever new archeological evidence is uncovered. Everything, that is, except the "single origin in Africa" part -- that seems untouchable, which looks more dogmatic than scientific.

Weren´t some researchers suggesting about ten or twenty years ago a dual-origin model (Africa and China)?

This is why I dropped anthropology as a minor 25 years ago. My major was geography, with an interest in remote sensing. The first day of class the professor stated emphatically that remote sensing and such was pseudoscience and could not be discussed. Closed minds with a certainty that only they hold the truth with current knowledge is not science.

Every time these nerds find something new, it is now "this is what happened." Until the next discovery, when it is then revised to the new revealed knowledge Set In Stone.

"...experts say that it´s astounding that such early, small-brained humans made it from Africa to China some two million years ago." They didn´t hop on a plane. It could have been a process of migration over hundreds or thousands of years.

- not every test used to date an item is carbon dating. Carbon dating has a median of about ten thousand years and used only on organic matter. Many tests used rely on radiation age for specific elements like argon that have a known breakdown over time.

- your untrained eye will not notice a bulb of percussion or a telltale shape of a flake. But its what an archaeologist looks for. Rock behave certain ways when they are struck or heated.

- it is true the tests are not perfect or even exacting - thats why you get ESTIMATES and not virtual dates, especially formaterial that is beyond ten thousand years old

My anthro profs loved to remind us students that an archaeology is a “jack of all trades” discipline master of no science in particular ... its why they rely on the hard core scientists to back their data up...

Unless youre just a seething smelly SJW who majored in womens studies and confuses the identity poltics of ociology with real anthropology. Then youre just messed in the head.

#12, who mentioned carbon dating? Believe it or not, I know what it is and know the difference between that and the methods used to ESTIMATE millions or billions of years. How often is the word "estimate" used in reference to these finds? How often do they say, as you apparently note, that dating methods are imprecise beyond about 10 to 30 thousand years?

Nearly a year after a 31-year-old disabled man sank beneath the waters of a retention pond as five teens mocked, laughed and videoed his final moments, prosecutors said they will not pursue charges in the case. The decision was made in recent days and followed talks with the family of Jamel Dunn of Cocoa, Florida, whose final pleas for help were captured July 9 on an about 2 1/2-minute cellphone clip by one of the teens. “I know that everyone was sickened by the callous disregard for human life exhibited by these young people. When Rob Holcombe and his husband bought a studio on Hawaii’s Big Island in 2015, they knew it was in an active volcano zone. But the Berkeley, Calif., couple had fallen in love with the place and gambled that molten lava would stay away from the forested getaway overlooking the Pacific that Mr. Holcombe describes as a “Garden of Eden.” “We figured we could get insurance, and it was worth the risk,” said the 52-year-old computer programmer. The couple did get insurance, but it won’t cover much lava damage. Their second home is one of hundreds threatened by renewed eruption at Hawaii’s Kilauea

The committee, with Georgia Sen. Originally highlighted by the Twitter account New Real Peer Review, Ensor’s journal article explores the field of “ecosexuality,” a term which means the sexual relationship between humans and plants. Advocates in the field argue that the Earth needs to be treated with love. In addition to reducing harmful environmental practices, ecosexuals believe that humans should physically make love to the Earth.
