General Motors deals blow to Trump´s
demands to build cars in the U.S. as
it says new generation Chevy Blazer
will be built in Mexico

General Motors Co is going ahead with its plan to manufacture the new Chevrolet Blazer SUV in Mexico, a spokesman for the automaker said, despite criticism by U.S. President Donald Trump over making vehicles abroad. Trump has been pressing automakers to build more vehicles in the United States under efforts to renegotiate the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). ´We remain committed to working with the administration on a modernized NAFTA,´ GM spokesman Pat Morrissey said, adding the decision was made years ago. (Snip) The United Auto Workers union called the decision disappointing. ´This is all happening while UAW-GM workers here

Good thing we bailed out GM and Chrysler (bought by Fiat using US loans and close to being out of business), creating or saving (remember that gem) all those US jobs.

So, the UAW can support more Democrats who will help GM move, or they can support more Republicans who are fighting to save those jobs in the United States.

Interesting how GM is working with the president on a modernized NAFTA agreement.

American car manufacturers have long had plants in Mexico, as well as in Canada. Workmanship has to be on a par with what Americans produce in American plants, or the cars wouldn´t sell. In order to build cars manufacturers must, obviously, stay in business, stay profitable.

In a perfect world Mexicans, Canadians, and Americans--and Central and South Americans--would be of a similar mind about many basic issues, and tariffs would be low to nonexistent. There would be no need for floods of the destitute swarming northward to an overburdened Promised Land.

That fantasy would would require other nations to attain, through hard work, standards of living roughly equivalent to ours, yet the sine qua non of such economic success is constitutional (or parliamentary) government and, most of all, economic freedom, capitalism. A leadership marinated since childhood in authentic Judeo-Christian principles is historically the most enlightened. Communism, socialism, and Islamism the worst, the ones to avoid, even on pain of war.

Ever since Obama bailed out GM they have not been on my vehicle shopping list. I just bought a new Toyota Sienna Minivan. Made in Indiana and on the top ten of most "American-made" vehicles. Way ahead of GM. Ford and Chrysler didn´t even make the top ten (at least 75% parts and assembly made in US). I just got rid of my ten year old Sienna. In ten years I have bought two batteries, a belt and a set of tires for it. Try that with a GM vehicle.

Re #6: That´s absolutely true for some things.

And yet I recently bought a MIM (Mexican, Made in Mexico) Fender Stratocaster (Fender Musical Instruments Corporation: FMIC) electric guitar. Its body and neck were fashioned in Fender´s Corona California main factory then shipped 180 miles south to Ensenada (Baja) for installation of everything else that makes it a guitar.

Admittedly, its components are cheaper than those of its American counterparts; the pots, pickups, nut, string tree, the bridge and tremolo system (whammy bar) aren´t for the most part, quite the equal of the ones made specially for huge stars, guitars that cost thousands of dollars, even when new. At the moment I´m not a good enough guitarist to demand a custom shop, say, Jeff Beck model. Leave that to a better player. When I get better I´ll upgrade my MIM Strat with hotter add-ons like DeMarzio Super Distortion pickups and higher quality innards, but that´s for another day after a lot of practice and performance.

Still, it sounds 95% as good as an American custom shop as it is now. Good purchase. Good quality for the money. And it´s part American anyway.

Mexico´s worst problem is that the cartels probably control more territory than the government. There are honest officials, but they are always in danger. God bless them. I pray good people get Mexico back.

Boeing had a sub-assembly plant in Mexico about 20 years ago. The story I heard from a Boeing manager is that the employees spent as much time scavaging packing materials for home improvements as assembling airplane parts. Worse, the work quality reflected the backwardness of Mexico. The experiment was finally ended.
As for that new Blazer, who designed the body style, drunk Nissan engineers?

Note the price did NOT go down using $10day workers.

Pretty obvious. If it is made in Mexico but is just like a Mexican designed/built vehicle, it should be tagged with a huge import fee. It is a "foreign" vehicle and should cost at least 40% more than those actually made in the USA.

FTA:...The Blazer, due in showrooms early next year, comes as American buyers continue their shift from cars to trucks and SUVs. This year trucks and SUVs accounted for about two-thirds U.S. new-vehicle sales, with cars making up the rest."

Because cars are required by Federal mandate to get much higher average fuel economy than trucks, which forces them to be smaller in size, and have smaller engines. Since SUVs are called trucks for regulatory purposes, and are permitted by our oh so generous mandarin thugs-in-charge to burn more fuel, they can be bigger and have bigger engines. So, if you want a powerful V8, or even a big V6, and a bigger vehicle, pretty much the only choice the Federal SOBs permit is a truck or SUV.

All "cars" have been steadily shrinking, by Federal mandate. I saw a Lincoln the other day, it was sad. Same exact size as my Accord. But I doubt that very many Lincoln buyers want a car like an Accord for Lincoln money --- so they buy a Lincoln SUV that is bigger, luxurious and has a bigger engine.

People aren´t abandoning cars, per se, they are refusing to buy smaller vehicles with smaller engines than they prefer, and are perfectly willing to pay more for fuel.

Damned, evil Federal bureaucrats! They destroy everything they touch.

Get them entirely out of vehicle design, especially fuel economy!

Not only were Trump’s comments imbecilic, he is wholly in the pocket of Putin. Republican Patriots: Where are you???” Trump and Putin fielded questions from reporters at a joint summit in Helsinki following a one-on-one meeting earlier in the day. Trump praised Putin during

Socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is the new darling of the Democratic party. In a recent interview, however, the upstart politico running in a hyper-liberal district in New York did not show command of the issues. Ocasio-Cortez was being interviewed by Margaret Hoover on the PBS show ‘Firing Line.’ Hoover asked very basic, softball questions of the young congressional candidate. In explaining her positions on the economy, Hoover asked Ocasio-Cortez “Do you think that capitalism has failed to deliver for working class Americans?” Hoover cited a currently booming US economy and low unemployment.
