Democrats propose changing
legal voting age in Michigan to 16

LANSING — The unprecedented outpouring of activism from students after the shooting at Marjorie Douglas Stoneman High School in Parkland, Fla., in February is the genesis for a bill introduced in the Legislature last week that would change the voting age in Michigan to 16. "We allow 16-year-olds to go off and get jobs and pay taxes, but we fail to allow them to exercise their voice come election time," said Sen. David Knezek, D-Dearborn Heights. "Young people are setting aside their differences and identifying issues they think need to change. And they can do everything to get that change

In other words, Trump won Michigan, so we must get the newly brainwashed on the rolls.

How about letting them buy guns, too?

This ought to be fun to watch when the kids can´t vote in national elections. The 26th Amendment is clear that the voting age is 18 or older. The again, can Michigan set the age lower than the constitution of the US allows? Something about federal law takes precedence over state law thingy. And I bet a whole lot of adults just can´t wait for irresponsible high school kids to vote about issues that affect adults´ lives.

Shoot, just skip the age requirement. Let them start voting whenever they feel the urge. Or someone buses them to the polls. What the heck. It’s Michigan.

The truth of the matter is that the voting age should probably be increased to 25 or 30.

What´s the drinking age in Michigan? Twenty-one. It´s absurd that men and women are old enough to defend our country with their lives, but we don´t trust them to have a drink after a mission.

Since no Democrats are talking about that, I assume the issue of revising age limits is about serving their political interests and not rectifying an injustice.

Why stop at age 16? If you are going to let hormone addled humans vote, go down to 13 years old. Or, if you want unformed brains to gather the future of your state, why not just do away with voting age requirements entirely. Surely dogs and cats have rights- PETA lunatics say so. Heck, my extreme Vegan Friend actually engaged me once in a debate about yeast cells being animals since one of their waste products is CO2- just like humans, and therefore should be protected. Perhaps the leftists can come up with a way to get yeast cells into the voting booth.

Absolute idiocy. What the Hell is wrong with people these days. Have we gone past our zenith as a species and now are literally seeking ways to drag the entire herd of humans over the cliff?

Lower the age to 2 since that seems to be the average mental age of the democrat voter these days. Throwing tantrums is their political weapon of choice along with crocodile tears and incoherent babbling as exhibited by their leader Nancy Pelosi.

Having had to pick up my bonehead 16-year-old son at 2 am at the police station in a nearby town last night, I sure don´t think 16-year-olds should vote (and hey, it wasn´t a serious issue, just a boy sneaking out to see a girl although the boy is gonna pay for his sins).

Reminds me that the Bible does support tough parenting. Remember when Jesus was 12 and He stayed behind in Jerusalem and met with the elders in the temple and His Mom and Dad had to chase back to town to find Him and He gave them some line about "having to do His Father´s business."

You didn´t hear about Him again until He was 30. Talk about getting grounded.

Republicans should be pushing for the voting age to be 21.

After all, Democrats have said children aren´t able to determine things at such a younger age, like buying alcohol, tobacco, and fire arms, so what makes them able to make such a big decision as voting for taxes their parents and grand parents will be forced to pay, possibly bankrupting them, or forcing them to move due to the excessive expenses?

And, if you´re still on your parents´ health insurance plan until 26, well, that´s another matter and a question if that person is also responsible enough to be making very adult decisions.

DETROIT — For Rachel Conner, the 2018 election season has been a moment of revelation. A 27-year-old social worker, Ms. Conner voted for Hillary Clinton in the 2016 primaries, spurning the more liberal Bernie Sanders, whom many of her peers backed. But Ms. Conner changed course in this year’s campaign for governor, after concluding that Democrats could only win with more daring messages on issues like public health and immigration. And so on a recent Wednesday, she enlisted two other young women to volunteer for Abdul El-Sayed, a 33-year-old advocate of single-payer health care running an uphill race in Michigan to

There’s no question that the story of the Democratic party right now is about the ascending left. There’s a bumper crop of self-consciously progressive candidates running for office this year, while many relatively non-ideological “Establishment Democrats” are embracing policy positions and political messages long associated with party insurgents. The relative strength of various Democratic factions in Congress won’t be possible to reliably measure until after the midterms. But with the 2020 presidential election cycle soon to begin (the first candidate debates will probably be held about this time next year), it’s looking like

By Nov. 7, Democrats will learn if their left turn steered them to victory or took them off a cliff. The state party’s endorsement of Kevin de León, a self-proclaimed socialist’s upset of an establishment Democrat in a New York City congressional primary and talk of abolishing Immigration and Customs Enforcement and enacting single-payer health care show an embrace of progressive politics that heartens liberal activists enraged by conservative policies pursued by President Donald Trump and congressional Republicans. But it’s unclear whether moving left will energize voters or endanger Democrats’ chances in competitive districts in the Nov. 6 mid-term elections,

As that price is about to take effect, growing opposition has put Trudeau on the defensive and has provincial governments rolling back other measures, raising questions about the appetite of this oil-exporting country to tackle climate change. Ontario, Canada´s most populous province, said Thursday it would join a legal challenge against Trudeau´s carbon pricing. Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke is making plans to move the headquarters of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) out of Washington, D.C., to a city in the West. The federal government owns 640 million acres in the U.S., or roughly 28 percent of the nation’s entire landmass. The BLM manages 248.3 million acres of public land, more than any other agency, according to a March 2017 report by the Congressional Research Service. Today, @Interior confirmed that they are planning to move the BLM HQ west. This is great news since 99% of the land that the BLM manages is located

One disastrous tweet has finally revealed Elon Musk for what he is: a fraud. Enraged that a British cave diver called his idea to rescue the Thai soccer team for what it was — “a p.r. stunt [with] absolutely no chance of working” — Musk took to Twitter and called him a “pedo.” Just like that, Tesla’s market value plummeted by $2 billion. Musk has been in business since 2002. His stated goal is nothing short of transforming humanity through his products: his electric cars, space travel, and an underground high-speed Hyperloop system. He has yet to succeed at anything but somehow spins every

CLEARWATER — Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri announced Friday that his agency will not arrest a man deputies say shot and killed another man during an argument over a handicap parking space. The incident falls under Florida’s self-defense law known as "stand your ground," the sheriff said during a news conference. The law gives immunity to those in fear of their lives who use force to defend themselves. The shooting "is within the bookends of ‘stand your ground’ and within the bookends of force being justified," the sheriff said, later adding, "I’m not saying I agree with it, but I don’t make

Lisa Page and Peter Strzok, the reported FBI lovebirds, are the poster children for the next “Don’t Text and Investigate” public service ads airing soon at an FBI office near you. Their extraordinary texting affair on their government phones has given the FBI a black eye, laying bare a raw political bias brought into the workplace that agents are supposed to check at the door when they strap on their guns and badges. It is no longer in dispute that they held animus for Donald Trump, who was a subject of their Russia probe, or that they openly discussed using the powers

Before the word "resignation" became a euphemism for being fired, it connoted a sense of public integrity and personal honor. Attorney General Elliot Richardson and his deputy, William Ruckelshaus, showed both qualities when they resigned from the Nixon administration during the Saturday Night Massacre in 1973. Jimmy Carter’s secretary of state, Cyrus Vance, did likewise when he resigned during the Iran hostage crisis in 1980. Assuming Mike Pompeo and John Bolton still have their own senses intact, they, too, should resign following the epic disgrace of the U.S.-Russia summit inHelsinki on Monday. So should their senior staff. I don’t suggest

The NFL´s two-month old national anthem policy is on hold. Hours after The Associated Press reported that Miami Dolphins players who protest on the field during the anthem could be suspended for up to four games under a team policy issued this week, the league and the players union issued a joint statement late Thursday night saying the two sides are talking things out.

In the past few days, President Trump has given at least some Republicans reason to express displeasure over his relationship with Russia. First he performed a pathetic ritual of subservience before Vladimir Putin, standing beside the Russian leader — after a private meeting between the two, which no aides were permitted to attend — and dismissing the copious evidence of a Russian attack on the 2016 election in deference to Putin’s word. Then we learned that Putin had suggested that we make Americans available to the Kremlin for questioning, including Michael McFaul, the former U.S. ambassador to Russia, in exchange

A research group in New Jersey has taken a fresh look at postelection polling data and concluded that the number of noncitizens voting illegally in U.S. elections is likely far greater than previous estimates. As many as 5.7 million noncitizens may have voted in the 2008 election, which put Barack Obama in the White House. The research organization Just Facts, a widely cited, independent think tank led by self-described conservatives and libertarians, revealed its number-crunching in a report on national immigration. Just Facts President James D. Agresti and his team looked at data from an extensive Harvard/YouGov study that every
