Bestselling Author Fired for Mocking
Publisher’s Diversity Policy

Breitbart London, by James Delingpole

Original Article

Posted By:Tianne, 6/14/2018 6:36:13 AM

Publishing giant Penguin Random House has announced that its authors are no longer to be chosen on literary merit but according to a politically correct quota system “taking into account ethnicity, gender, sexuality, social mobility and disability”. This is mad, stupid, and insulting. But not nearly as mad, stupid, and insulting as the decision by the Mslexia Short Story Prize, a literary competition for women authors, to sack one of its judges Lionel Shriver as a punishment for daring to criticise the new policy. Shriver (who, despite her misleading first name, is a woman) is the American-born, UK-resident novelist best known

Over-reaching and injurious ´diversity´, described so chillingly by James Delingpole, is coming soon to America (or perhaps it is already here)..

I buy and read books.

I don´t do it for diversity´s sake.

We´ll see if selecting authors for that reason alone will allow Penguin to continue to exist.

It must have started several years ago. Have you looked at a literature textbook lately? They have done away with classic short stories and poetry and are full of "diverse" stories that fit the SOL´s. No wonder students hate to read.

All major corporations in this country have strict diversity policies reinforced by mandatory diversity training every year as dictated by the gooberment.

The CEOs would all tell you in private that diversity hurts productivity by a huge factor. Stereotypes have a basis in reality that can not be denied.

I associate people who read regularly with a higher level of intelligence. Maybe the publisher, recognizing the dumbing down of the culture and the people, want similar type authors to meet the demands of these dumber people. It, of course, won´t work because dumb people don´t read. Serious readers want quality.

There are two possibilities: that policy has long been in place or there is some cosmic reason why PC writers are somehow more talented than others, because they have dominated publishers´ lists for generations. Conservatives need to control their ´share´ of the means of production.

A couple of years ago I read the latest offering by a favorite novelist. Lo and behold, the last part of the last chapter the author had added that the son of a major character had "come out." It had no part in the story line. I guess if you don´t have a gay person as the hero/heroine of the story, then you won´t get published. It´s so glaringly obvious that it is insulting.

I notice also that popular authors´ main characters are not religious, are "accepting" of sexual perversion, etc. These are the new social mores, what decent people accept as right and which cannot be questioned.

We get this pushed at us in our entertainment and the children get taught that in schools. No wonder our values have been turned upside-down.

Random House is only following the lead of the awards groups who have, for over a decade, refused to even put conservatives who happen to be Sci-fi, mystery, fantasy, etc., into nomination.
These awards would rather have a category with NO nominees than allow a conservative-leaning person to win!

Many publishers already publish books that are poorly written, contain little that is fine, or enlightening or heaven forbid, uplifting or admirable. Rather these books are written to hector the reader and inculcate the reader with the Left´s pov or to acquaint the reader with the existence of some obscure event to "broaden the reader´s cultural horizons". Much like most new movies.

It is nice to see their political agenda finally out for everyone to see it. They are no longer denying that the gatekeepers ignore merit, but choose the virtue signalling of diversity.

Most of the old publishing houses are on the brink of oblivion, because most people don´t buy actual books, they prefer to use their kindles.

Publishing is in deep kimchi, and like the dinosaurs are on their way to oblivion. There are too many other options available for authors right now.

On September 4, 2001, Robert Mueller took over the FBI. At his confirmation hearings, fraud had overshadowed discussions of terrorism. And as FBI Director, Mueller quickly diverged from the common understanding that the attacks that killed 3,000 people had been an act of war rather than a crime. In 2008, Abdullah Saleh al-Ajmi, who had been unleashed from Guantanamo Bay, carried out a suicide bombing in Iraq. Al-Ajmi had been represented by Thomas Wilner who was being paid by the Kuwaiti government. Wilner was a pal of Robert Mueller. In conversations with most college officials, many CEOs, many politicians and race hustlers, it´s not long before the magical words "diversity" and "inclusiveness" drop from their lips. Racial minorities are the intended targets of this sociological largesse, but women are included, as well. When Donald Trump withdrew from the so-called Iran deal in early May, almost all conventional wisdom in Washington was aghast. The Left thought nullification would fast-track Iranian proliferation, incite more Iranian terrorism and adventurism, estrange our allies, and alienate a possible new friend. Many on the conservative side (aside from Never Trumpers who are against anything Trump is for, including their own prior policies) thought it would have been wiser to back out slowly, or at least to have waited first for the duplicitous Iranians to get caught in clear violations, or to coordinate a joint withdrawal with the Europeans. We the media have “fact-checked” President Trump like we have fact-checked no other human being on the planet—and he’s certainly given us plenty to write about. That’s probably why it’s so easy to find lists enumerating and examining his mistakes, missteps and “lies.” But as self-appointed arbiters of truth, we’ve largely excused our own unprecedented string of fact-challenged reporting. The truth is, formerly well-respected, top news organizations are making repeat, unforced errors in numbers that were unheard of just a couple of years ago. Our repeat mistakes involve declaring that Trump’s claims are “lies” when they are matters of opinion, or when
