VW fined one billion euros by German

Berlin - Volkswagen was fined 1 billion euros ($1.18 billion) over diesel emissions cheating in what amounts to one of the highest ever fines imposed by German authorities against a company, public prosecutors said on Wednesday. The German fine follows a U.S. plea agreement from January 2017 when VW agreed to pay $4.3 billion to resolve criminal and civil penalties for installing illegal software in diesel engines to cheat strict U.S. anti-pollution tests. “Following thorough examination, Volkswagen AG accepted the fine and it will not lodge an appeal against it. I´m just curious. Just who gets this money and what can they do with it? Does it go to Germany or the EU? (Do you think these are the same folks that fudge "climate change" numbers?)

I´ll bet VW has a lot of influence in Germany, which means it has influence in the EU.
I presume they are a big climate change company too, right?

No good deed goes unpunished. I can understand why US environmentalists shake down VW but now the Germans are doing the same. Do they not realize that the end game is not a cleaner environment but a primitive way of life? Environmentalists should be all forced to walk everywhere now before they impose it on all of us. The engineering failures working in the government can always raise standards so high that the talented engineers in the auto companies cannot meet them. This does not make the cars "dirty" because they are not cleaner than in nature. Electric cars are just as dirty as the plants that generate power. Only a tiny part of that is so called "clean" solar and wind energy. Ozone is produced in nature. Just produce more of it on an industrial scale in cities or in the exhaust pipe if you wish and this will destroy the NOx emissions. Problem solved - and with a diesel less fuel and Co2 as well. The best solution is to defund greedy environmentalists completly and subsidize the Auto industry. Take that and smoke it.

This is nothing but a shakedown by the Enviro-Nazis. VW Diesels are some of the finest in the world, they just couldn´t pass the ridiculous emission standards setup by the EPA Clean Air Nazis. You can practically inhale the fumes out of a modern Diesel that you would die from in the 1960´s Diesels.

Considering German Engineers have been outstanding in many areas, I wouldn´t own a German car. Nearly 35 years I have owned Camry´s. Incredibly reliable and each one I replaced was better that the one before. Check the cost of repairs for a German car.

Officials in Virginia are warning residents to be on the lookout after an invasive plant was found Tuesday in the northern part of the state that can cause third-degree burns and even permanent blindness. The Massey Herbarium at Virginia Tech said in a Facebook post that 30 giant hogweed plants were discovered in Clarke County, located between Winchester and Leesburg. The plant contains a very toxic sap, that when combined with sun exposure, can cause severe health hazards. "In brief, the sap prevents your skin from protecting itself from sunlight, which leads to a very bad sunburn," according to the New York Department

Critics of President Trump routinely accuse him of "gaslighting" — that is, of deliberately repeating misinformation to the extent that the public starts doubting verifiable facts and believing in Trump's self-serving talking points. On Sunday, a flurry of more than a dozen presidential tweets offered clear reminders of his tactics. In one glaring example, Trump reiterated a lie that his political opponents are responsible for the forcible separation of the children of undocumented migrants arriving at the American border — it was his own administration that chose to pursue these measures, which have sparked a growing backlash.

The Port of Virginia is one of the most significant ports in the United States. It facilitates $242 million worth of commerce a day, and a full 9 percent — or 343,000 — of Virginia’s jobs are port-related. But there’s a problem. It’s not big enough. Not when cargo ships have gotten bigger, which threatens both business and safety. Experts say deepening and widening of the port at its channel is crucial. (Snip) How much is that? Around a billion dollars. Virginia has already secured $695 million in private and state investment, and the state is asking for $300 million more from the federal government.
