How Houston Lost Its Mind
Over a Trump Shirt

Texas Monthly Magazine, by Mimi Swartz

Original Article

It’s hard to imagine a safer space in Houston than West University Place. Its unofficial motto is “The Neighborhood City,” and on a sweet spring night that was blessedly cool and clear, with mature live oaks spreading their protective branches over the tidy streets and the azaleas blooming in a riot of coral, fuchsia, and the whitest white, that’s what it seemed to be: a cozy, friendly oasis in the middle of a big, complicated metropolis. A place where four girls just entering their teens could head out for ice cream and cookies, unaccompanied, to a spot called Tiny’s Milk

West U - in the shadow of ´far out´ Rice. Used t/b liberal were tolerant and lassaiz faire, but not with PC. Bulk of Houston has gone off the deep end with immigrants and throwing out common sense. Like the Lesbian mayor wanting Churches to give her copies of sermons.

A long way from Houston of Councilman Frank Mann, but things have a tendency to go too far the other way - not sure if Houston will ever swing back.

FTA: “I saw the shirt and was reminded that President Trump bragged about sexual assault,”

uh no..What Mr. Trump had said (while engaging in locker room banter with another man) is that women let him do this. Not that he sexually assaulted women. The Left has been repeating the underlying lie, Goebbels fashion since NBC somehow found the tape, and someone, mysteriously released it.

In any event, I think some on the right went too far over what happened to those girls. But I think had it been the other way around, had it been a Republican who criticized and attempted to humiliate 4 liberal teens for wearing who knows what, the response from the Left would have been far, far worse. And no one from the Left would have condemned their like minded pals.

Sorry toots, what you yelled out loud could very well have incited very real violence against children.

Your self righteous indignant elitist act is an example of precisely what is tearing the country apart. Its you. And by the way just so you know, we have endured Che Guevara for decades with silent stoicism. We aren´t like you we have tried to coexist.

And let´s be factual when we speak of Trump´s indiscretions. Trump commented on how some women throw themselves at the rich and famous such that he COULD just grab them in a manner, I don´t need to repeat, and they´d be fine with it. Quite frankly that´s how Monica was around Clinton. Yes, Trump made a crass comment on a very real aspect of our culture.

Kelly Burke, in very typical liberal fashion, reacted loudly to a stimulus without considering the repercussions. That was stupid but since she really was simply demonstrating her own lack of control and common sense, and not directing any venom towards the teenagers per se, no real harm was done.

The real damage was done as soon as the liberal press got involved. As the article mentions, liberals only hear what they want to hear and the liberal press trumpets that filtered opinion to the world.

IMO the reporter Jacob Rascon should be taken out behind a woodpile and had the error of his ways explained to him. Then kneecap him.

Typical liberal rag excusing the roguish behavior of a liberal!! The gobbledygook article is sugar coating the actual events and excusing Kelley Burke´s behavior. A grown woman, especially one who is representing the local community, has no right to be waving her hands and screaming at teenage girls in public!! There is something called decorum that one practices in public. Is this the face of a leader that this community should put up with?

For the first time there has been a push back from conservatives, and the liberal Mimi goes screaming that Houston lost its mind? No Mimi- the liberals are facing their come uppance!! BTW, this area in Houston, is predominantly conservative. Again, a lie by a so called writer!! And btw, it is immaterial whether the citizens of this community calling for her recall know the girls or their families. What happened to these young girls could happen again by by deranged liberals like her.

Read about the paragon of virtue Ms. Burke here:

I remember when they had that women´s march proudly wearing their P-hats and carrying their obscene signs. They had included their young children in that march exposing them to their obscenities.

Yet you believe you are the victim. Quit messing with us, and perhaps we won´t mess with you. We´re a bit fed up and not willing to take any more.

Someone had the temerity to actually wear a shirt supporting our President in her community. That cannot be tolerated (by these oh so tolerant liberals). The answer is Yes. Democrats are mean. Intolerant. Self-righteous. and completely un-self aware.

It wasn´t the Trump Shirt. It was the Democrat activist that thought she could troll a vulnerable youngster by hurling filthy language. The article soft pedals all of that and says the shirt made her do it. We´ve all said things we regretted, but when we are adults, we should not take out our frustrations by damaging the psyches of our innocent children.

There is a world of difference between the ideas and language someone expresses in private and in confidence, versus their official public pronouncements.

President Johnson was known to use the n-word on a regular basis. Imagine someone going around using the epithet and excusing themselves because a president said it.

The woman displayed poor judgment unbecoming her position, and voters had every right to make an issue of it, and those who disagree have the right to use their vote to support her foolish antics. That´s how it works in a free country. God bless America.

As Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court nomination tees up another national debate about reproductive rights, is it too much to ask that abortion’s impact on the black population be part of the discussion? When the Supreme Court decided Roe v. Wade in 1973, polling showed that blacks were less likely than whites to support abortion. Sixties-era civil rights activists like Fannie Lou Hamer and Whitney Young had denounced the procedure as a form of genocide. Jesse Jackson called abortion “murder” and once told a black newspaper in Chicago that “we used to look for death from the man in the blue

There are few if any more respected lower-court judges. More important than his erudition is Kavanaugh’s intense commitment to constitutional structure.
