School bans valedictorian´s speech,
so he grabs a megaphone

CBS News, by Caitlin O´kane

Original Article

Christian Bales, the valedictorian of Holy Cross High School in Crestview Hills, Kentucky, was barred from delivering his graduation speech on Friday. Instead, he delivered it after the graduation ceremony, outside of the school on a megaphone. After reading a copy of Bales´ speech, the school determined it was "political and inconsistent with the teachings of the Catholic church." (Snip) "I know they pointed out that the Parkland teens teach ideologies that apparently go against the Catholic faith, which I don´t agree with in my experience," Bales said, according to WKRC.

Comments:
If a school whose overt mission includes the spreading of a doctrine of faith, don´t be surprised if they tell you not to include things contrary to that faith in your valedictory speech. Their school, their faith, their stage and microphone are not for your contrary beliefs. That is neither mysterious nor unjust.

The Catholic Church isn´t a goobernment entity. Thus, it isn´t subjec to the 1st Amendment. This is a feel good story. The Church did what it did and didn´t violate nay rights. The kid did what he did with 1st amendment protection. Win win. Move on.

What a valuable lesson in rights. Now, if the NFL players could understand this. The kid did his expression on his own time and out of the venue of the school, who had every right to not allow speech their organization abhorred during their event in their facility.

The school administrators are probably sighing in relief that the mother is not going to send her 9 year old daughter to this school.

This CBS story, of course, gets some of this wrong. It was the Diocese, not the school that made the call. The mother was quoted in the local paper saying that Holy Cross has always supported her son. The salutatorian was also to give a speech in her role as student council president and hers was also cancelled the morning of graduation. I have read her speech and other than one quote about dogma that may have rankled the Bishop (but I personally found acceptable within the conscience position of the Cathechism),I found nothing objectionable about it. It has been reported that they BOTH missed the deadline to submit them for approval and I suspect that is the primary reason for the rejections - especially with the young woman´s speech. Hard time to learn that lesson, but rules are rules. And as they taught at my son´s Catholic high school on the other side of the (Ohio) river, if you´re not early, you´re late.

Oh, and Holy Cross is NOT in Crestview Hills (although the graduation venue may have been). HCHS is proudly in Covington, KY.

Except if a Catholic were to grab a megaphone and quote the myriad of scriptural verses about sodomy at a Gay Event the result would have been jail.

Their ceremony, their call. Afterwards: Freedom of Assembly, his call. There was no obligation to stick around to hear his thoughts. Nobody´s happy, but it was the correct way of doing things.

Billionaire Richard Branson: America should

One solution to income inequality is giving out free cash, according to the British billionaire entrepreneur Richard Branson. “A basic income should be introduced in Europe and in America,” Branson told David Gelles of The New York Times. Branson was responding to the question, “What do you think those in positions of power should do to address social problems like income inequality?” In a report published in January, the global charity Oxfam found that 82 percent of the growth in global wealth in the previous year went to the top 1 percent of individuals ranked by riches. Geneva - Poverty in the United States is extensive and is deepening under the Trump administration whose policies seem aimed at removing the safety net from millions of poor, while rewarding the rich, a U.N. human rights investigator has found. Philip Alston, U.N. special rapporteur on extreme poverty, called on U.S. authorities to provide solid social protection and address underlying problems, rather than “punishing and imprisoning the poor”. While welfare benefits and access to health insurance are being slashed, President Donald Trump’s tax reform has awarded “financial windfalls” to the mega-rich and large

Astros closer Ken Giles just gave a new definition to "beating himself up." After giving up a go-ahead, three-run homer to Gary Sanchez, five hits and four runs in 1/3 inning of work Tuesday, Astros manager A.J. Hinch removed Giles from the game. Giles then proceeded to punch himself in the face. Seriously. The Astros went on to lose to New York 4-0. The four-game series is now tied 1-1.

The earliest symptoms began on March 22. Twenty-two of the ill individuals have been hospitalized. Prince Charles and Prince William reportedly ‘snubbed’ the US President during his visit to Britain - leaving the Queen to meet Donald Trump alone at Windsor Castle. The royal father and son apparently shared their desire to not take part in the arrangements during informal discussions regarding the president’s four-day tour. Trump’s trip was not a state visit and so only the Queen greeted the president and his wife Melania. However even on working trips dignitaries expect to see more members of the royal family than only the Queen. The indictment Friday of 12 Russian military officers for the election hacks against the DNC and Hillary Clinton’s campaign lends a surprising new detail to the 2016 election interference timeline: The Kremlin’s hackers apparently still maintained a foothold in the DNC’s network four months after the Democrats announced that they’d locked the intruders out. Until today, the story of the DNC hack ended promptly on June 14, 2016, when the Democrats went public with the intrusion in the pages of the Washington Post, and Crowdstrike, the security firm hired to respond to the breach, published a detailed technical account. Anyone who has ever been to a recycling plant is invariably surprised at how dirty and nasty America’s favorite green activity really is. Trucks dump the material on a long conveyor belt, where a few dozen people pick through by hand what is supposed to be recyclable material, but more and more often is just plain old dirty trash. The recyclables used to be worth something more than bragging rights about liberal moral superiority. Americans are encouraged to embrace diversity and be culturally sensitive to those who have flouted our laws and invaded our nation. Meanwhile, illegal aliens arriving in America have no such requirement. Instead, trespassing tribes relocate, and when they do, rather than assimilate, they transfer habits and activities indigenous to the countries from whence they migrated. Thus, Americans suffer from illnesses that are easily traceable to third-world bathroom habits (TWBH) and lack of hygiene in the developing world. It´s not news that illegals work in restaurants as food-handlers. These restaurant workers migrate from

Watching FBI agent Peter Strzok battle with Congress, my initial reaction was pure anger. His repeated, arrogant insistence that he had done nothing wrong despite tons of evidence to the contrary convinced me he deserved immediate firing — if not the firing squad. Gradually, though, anger gave way to amazement as Strzok grew increasingly combative and condescending. Given his predicament, the sneering and smirking were stupid, and yet he persisted. Who is this jerk, I wondered, and how in the hell did he get to be a big shot at the FBI? And why are taxpayers still paying for the privilege of
