Teen who started devastating
wildfire ordered by judge to pay
more than $36 million in restitution

New York Daily News, Newswire Services, by David Boroff

A teen who started a massive wildfire in Oregon has been ordered by a judge to pay nearly $37 million over the next decade. Hood River County Circuit Judge John Olson awarded the restitution totaling $36,618,330.24 to cover the costs of firefighting, repair and restoration, according to the Oregonian. (Snip) The 15-year-old boy´s lawyer had asked last week for a "reasonable and rational" penalty, calling the nearly $37 million an "absurd" amount. The restitution is solely the responsibility of the teen, and not his parents, who came from Ukraine. Judge Olson admitted it was "an extraordinary amount."

Comments:
The $37 million the arsonist will never repay in 100 lifetimes is but a small price to pay for the many benefits of Diversity. Bet the whole family´s on welfare too, and stand to collect Social Security later on.

The teen caused the fire. The fire cost $37MM to put out. So having the teen pay $37MM is reasonable.
But for the teen´s actions, the $37MM would not have been spent.
Hopefully the judgment will be a garnishment on his wages, benefits, tax refunds etc.
Bet he´ll think twice about doing it again, as hopefully will other idiots.

If every kid had to make restitution for his actions, instead of being excused for one sob story after another, perhaps today´s kids would cause a lot less trouble.

The 37 Million will never be repaid. A punishment that I may have preferred would be mandatory community service with the local fire department for the next several decades. And I dont mean mopping the floors, I mean riding a fire truck and helping to put out fires and save lives.

Add a paper route or two and he´ll be scot free in no time.

That´s the problem with kids today. They get away with everything.

The fire was devastating. Countless lives were changed. Countless family homes and mementos destroyed. Businesses lost or set back years.

This kid should thank God no one was seriously hurt or killed. A 15 year old knows right from wrong.

Of course it will never be repaid but he´ll be reminded of it every time he´s denied a loan or an apartment because of a judgement against him.

He can mow lawns every day from dawn to dusk for ten years and not come close to paying off this fine.

Or, he can get into the drug transport business and pay if off in ten years. Assuming, of course, that he doesn´t get caught.

Urine trouble now. FDNY fire marshals arrested a squatter who sparked a massive blaze in Staten Island, urinated on the flames in an attempt to put out the fire, then ran off without telling anyone when that plan failed, sources and officials said Tuesday. Hector Meza, 40, was staying inside a building on Stuyvesant Place near Wall St. in St. George when he accidentally knocked over a candle about 5:15 p.m. on June 6, according to authorities. The flames spread and grew to a three-alarm inferno that ripped through several buildings on the commercial block. Meza bolted and never alerted

A deranged straphanger sucker-punched a subway conductor in Brooklyn on Tuesday — the latest in a recent string of assaults on MTA workers. The unidentified man socked a Q train conductor after his Brighton Beach-bound train pulled into the Prospect Park station at 11:54 a.m., MTA officials said. The rider was acting erratically while aboard the train, according to a witness, who said the lunatic got off at Prospect Park and, without warning, reached through a window and struck the middle-aged conductor in the head before fleeing the station. A woman brandishing a 10-inch kitchen knife allegedly screamed “I want to kill all you Jews” as she chased a group of children who had just left a synagogue in north London. Police arrested a 47-year-old woman on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence after she was tackled by neighbourhood watch volunteers in Stamford Hill, which is home to Europe’s largest Hasidic Jewish community. She is said to have run after a group of around 14 children aged between eight and 13 on Sunday night while shouting antisemitic abuse. (Snip) “This is another worrying incident of knife crime

Illegal Immigration: The latest outrage by the Trump administration is its policy of "ripping" children away from parents who´ve crossed the border illegally. As with so many other things involving Trump, there´s plenty of emotion but precious little in the way of facts. The furor reached critical mass after the Department of Homeland Security said on Friday that 1,995 children had been separated from their illegal border crossing parents from mid-April through May. That number included, DHS said, cases where the adults were arrested for illegal entry, immigration violations, or possible criminal conduct. The practice has generated a rising storm of protests,
