Doral Police Chief Hernan Organvidez told reporters officers confronted the man about 1:30 a.m. Friday and exchanged fire. He said the man was "neutralized" and taken into custody. Miami-Dade Police Director Juan Perez said the man was shouting about Trump, and draped an American flag over the counter. He said the man was "actively shooting." The New York Post, America’s finest daily newspaper, finds itself at odds, like the rest of the country, over the hottest issue of the moment – immigration. Even saying that is not so simple. Because we’re really talking about ILLEGAL immigration (50,000 each month) and unaccompanied alien children showing up by the thousands in search of asylum. The argument takes a nasty turn over the wisdom of separating kids from their parents. Some say this is cruel. The government says it’s the law. The Post says – “Stop breaking up families.” Faulting Trump, so runs its lead editorial to start the week. (Separating families,

Michelle Obama traded workout clothes for a chic suit as she went out to lunch in Los Angeles on Tuesday. The former first lady looked perfectly chic for her business lunch as she dined at the Gjelina restaurant in Venice. Michelle swapped out her usual jewel tones with a softer palate of pastels for the meeting. She opted for light green wide-leg trousers and a suit jacket done in matching green and black stripes, topping the look off with a simple white shirt and sandals. The former first lady also shielded her face with an oversized pair of pastel pink sunglasses

Richard Branson’s healthcare firm has pocketed £2million of public money by suing the NHS. Virgin Care took High Court action after losing out on an £82million contract to provide children’s medical services in Surrey. The work was handed to a rival group of in-house NHS providers and a social enterprise firm last year. Virgin Care claimed there were ‘serious flaws in the procurement process’ and secured an out-of-court settlement in November. Newly-released accounts show that six clinical commissioning groups and NHS England paid Virgin Care £1.565million. Surrey County Council handed over another £440,000 and at least £243,000 more was diverted

Donald Trump will lose another senior aide in just two weeks, as Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations Joe Hagin leaves the administration. Hagin, the president´s point-man on last week´s nuclear summit with North Korea´s dictator, made headlines for keeping Trump in the dark about key details negotiated in advance – so he couldn´t tweet them. He was left with egg on his face weeks earlier in Singapore, when the North Korean delegation scheduled to attend pre-summit meetings stood the American team up. Legalising cannabis risks making children believe it is safe, the head of the NHS warned yesterday. In a major intervention, Simon Stevens highlighted serious health dangers, such as addiction and psychosis. He spoke out after former Tory leader Lord Hague urged ministers to be ‘bold’ and legalise cannabis for recreational use – meaning it could be sold in shops with alcohol and tobacco. The peer claimed the war on the class B drug had been ‘comprehensively and irreversibly lost’. But campaigners said it would be wrong to decriminalise a narcotic linked to mental illness, organised crime, violence and road deaths. Addressing a health

She is the right person at the right time. Her resignation would only serve to make this problem more difficult to solve," Graham, R-S.C., said. The Pentagon has formally suspended a major military exercise that was planned with South Korea in August. Donald Trump first announced that he planned to suspend military exercises with South Korea during the nuclear summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. It is a decision that will no doubt please Kim, as North Korea has long denounced the exercise as a provocation and rehearsal to invade the North. Trump´s decision was confirmed on Monday by Dana White, a spokesman for the Defense Department. White said planning for the summer drills has stopped, but there have been no decisions made on any other

It spent its entire life embedded on the ocean floor, likely never moving, according to scientists from the University of California – Riverside. Michelle Obama joined her fellow former first lady Laura Bush Monday in criticizing the hard-line Trump administration immigration policy that has led to families being separated at the border. Bush, the wife of former President George W. Bush, penned a tweet over the weekend in which she echoed the widespread condemnation of the new directive from Attorney General Jeff Sessions. “I live in a border state,” Bush said. “I appreciate the need to enforce and protect our international boundaries, but this zero-tolerance policy is cruel. It is immoral. And it breaks my heart.” Quoting that tweet, Obama wrote that “sometimes truth transcends

Romney, the 2012 GOP presidential nominee, declined to blame President Trump or the Department of Homeland Security specifically in remarks to a group of voters at a park here. He called images of children separated from their parents “pretty disturbing” and “heartbreaking.” “I think immediately we should go back to the setting where we’re not ripping children away from their parents, and then we expect Congress to take

Illegal Immigration: The latest outrage by the Trump administration is its policy of "ripping" children away from parents who´ve crossed the border illegally. As with so many other things involving Trump, there´s plenty of emotion but precious little in the way of facts. The furor reached critical mass after the Department of Homeland Security said on Friday that 1,995 children had been separated from their illegal border crossing parents from mid-April through May. That number included, DHS said, cases where the adults were arrested for illegal entry, immigration violations, or possible criminal conduct. The practice has generated a rising storm of protests,

Roseanne Barr has become untouchable due to the "Valerie Jarrett/Ambien/Planet of the Apes" controversy, irrevocably contaminated by racism. This presents a problem for ABC, which canceled her revived show but wants the show to return in some form because it had high ratings. The apparent solution is to create a new show focused on the daughter character "Darlene," which would exclude Roseanne. Unfortunately, Roseanne Barr owns a chunk of the show, and ABC doesn´t want to be seen letting Barr profit from it, so ABC is in talks to buy the show from Barr so she would not technically profit

The Justice Department’s tepid OIG report, with its risible assertion that there was no political bias in the FBI’s Clinton email probe, suggests that it was written by people afraid to tell the unvarnished truth about the conduct of the federal government’s police apparatus, an agency that openly defies congressional oversight and has participated in a vendetta against a sitting president. The FBI’s leadership clearly hopes that the Democrats will win majorities in Congress and put a halt to the investigations into its multifarious abuses of power. The OIG is loath to face the ruthless reprisals that would inevitably follow

FBI Director Wray has said nothing to reassure Americans that he understands the serious corruption highlighted in the IG report. The FBI´s cover-ups and stonewalling on Wray´s watch add to his credibility problems. Both in is his press conference after the IG report was released, and in his testimony Monday before the Senate Judiciary Committee, Director Wray demonstrated he was more concerned about protecting the reputation of the institution of the FBI than about the astonishing corruption of top FBI officials detailed in the IG report.
