Great Men, Black Swans,

American Greatness, by Michael Walsh

One of the worst ideas in American history has been the establishment of schools of government and the professionalization of the Washington press corps. Both are intellectual artifacts of the Progressive Era, monuments to the notion that democracy is too messy to be left in the hands of the people, and that therefore the government and its putative watchdogs should be administered for the public good by a priest class of wise men, schooled like the mandarins of ancient China, in the intricate arts and ways of the imperial capital. The problem is, as ever, bipartisan. I can recall the gaggle of in-crowd devotees, including right here, whose complaint against Sarah Palin was that she hadn´t gone to the "right school", there to be indoctrinated with the "right attitudes".
Time for the tumbrels.

"The result has been the sclerotic federal government of the past half-century and more, a bloated, ineffective, failure-proof collection of Ivy League credentialists who, obsessed with ritual, have forgotten why they ever went into government in the first place, except for their own personal self-enrichment."

Bingo! As I´ve been fond of saying in recent years, given that the mess Donald Trump inherited was the creation of graduates of Harvard, Yale, et al, an Ivy League diploma should be an automatic disqualifier for public office.

FTA:
No matter which party was in power, nothing ever really got accomplished (except the process of “process”) and nothing ever really changed, either—except for the worse. From Nixon, who gave us OSHA and the EPA, through Carter, Reagan, George H. W. Bush, Clinton, George W. Bush, and Obama, the Permanent Bipartisan Fusion Party and its auxiliaries in the media, tortured the country even as it bored us to death.

“Stability” was the key. Mediocrities like Madeleine Albright, Hillary Clinton, and John Kerry could jet all over the world, busying themselves with activity and calling it action, but nothing ever changed—because nothing was ever supposed to change. North Korea, the Middle East, and other hot spots were to be preserved, not sorted out, as full employment for the mandarins.

And then came Trump...

Thank you, God, for shutting down that torture chamber. I’d have preferred a quick water boarding to the last forty years.

FTA: “But destabilizing an insupportable and disgraceful status quo is exactly the platform Trump ran on; the president may not be an intellectual, but he understands chain reactions, and can’t wait to start them.”

Trump is a chain demolition expert. I imagine dynamite is as good as a pump when you want to fundamentally transform a swamp.

MAGA – Dad’s about to pull the Zippo out of his pocket and light Crooked Hillary!’s fireworks.

"somebody has finally said no to the Palestinians"

You think that might have something to do with the fact that we are now energy independent of the Middle East and that some of the countries there have recognized that having us as an ally is far better than an enemy.

It is absurd that a group of people, the Palestinians, who have nothing to offer anyone, except for being pawns, have jammed up the process of normalization for almost 70 years.

We should label Hamas as a terrorist organization and refuse to deal with it. We should tell the Palestinians that they must seek new leadership who are not terrorists, that recognize the right of Israel to exist as a nation, and that will seek a resolution within the next year or so. If they refuse, cut off aid ($700 million). If they comply, offer increased aid following guidelines and decreasing over time.

It is time for this absurdity to end.

Trump’s chaotic style is starting to make sense

From its start, the Trump administration has been plagued by charges of “chaos.” From the revolving door of senior staffers — including two secretaries of state, three national security advisers and two chiefs of staff — to the president’s brash and sometimes boorish personal style, to his politically incorrect taunt-tweeting, Donald Trump has refused to conform to his political opponents’ conventional notions of what constitutes an effective White House operation. And yet, the economy is humming, hosts of regulations have been rolled back, the unemployment rate is down, job openings are soaring, taxes have been cut and black

Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw from Barack Obama’s fantasy “Iran deal” brings a much-needed dose of realpolitik to a fossilized Washington foreign-policy establishment that has operated for far too long on “consensus” and an inflated reliance on the estimation of others, especially those hostile to the American experiment. What the novice president understands, in a way that none of his predecessors since Ronald Reagan has, is that (as the Declaration puts it) “a decent respect to the opinions of mankind” does not mean to sacrifice control of America’s self-interest on the altar of cultural-Marxist shibboleths like political correctness, “fairness,” “tolerance,”

In the end, somehow we knew it would come to this. The Left, in the form of the think thank, RAND, has gone full Luddite: Since the 1992 United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, society has organized efforts to limit the magnitude of climate change around the concept of stabilization — that is, accepting some climate change but holding it within acceptable bounds. This report offers an initial exploration of the concept of climate restoration — that is, approaches that seek to return atmospheric concentrations of greenhouse gases to preindustrial levels within one to two generations.

As James Comey steps with both his left feet right into his Oscar Wilde moment, another player in the preening emotional drama that is the Mueller investigation has also taken the stage. Starring in the role of Drama Queen today is none other than Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, the man to whom all roads lead in the current mess. Forget the weepy, creepy Jim Comey -- if this were a Hercule Poirot story, the Belgian dandy would even now be waxing the tips of his moustaches and getting ready to enter the drawing room at Main Justice, his j´accuse

Aside from the propitiatory human sacrifice to the gods of radical feminism known as abortion, there is no pagan totem more worshiped on the Left than the environment. Since the original Earth Day back in 1970, the idea that Mother Gaia is under constant attack by rapacious human beings has become an article of faith, and no amount of ameliorative activity since will suffice to placate them. Indeed, as the environment has been substantially cleaned up, their zealotry has only increased. For the environmental Left, the Hudson is always polluted, the forests are always vanishing, and the Cuyahoga River is

The cultural-Marxist Left’s war on Western civilization and American society is conducted on many fronts, including the courts and the streets, but also on a daily basis in the arena of public opinion, via the language. [snip] Another example is the transformation of the words “immigrants” and “asylum,” which in the space of a decade or so have now acquired a host of subtextual signifiers of race and class in order to change their meaning.

As we’ve long since learned, the Left always tells us what they fear most, by reacting to political developments or policy proposals like scalded vipers, hissing and spitting as they writhe around in agonized hysteria. Not for nothing is the word “catastrophic” one of their favorite descriptive adjectives, since it pretty much describes just about anything they don’t agree with and thus keeps them forever on the edge. To rational people, their collection of tics, neuroses, and phobias may seem at first to lack a certain consistency, other than a tendency to go from zero to obscenities on Twitter in no

Presidents who come from outside the professional political class run and win on their lack of Washington experience. But once they get to the capital, it seems, they quickly fall prey to Beltwayitis as the scourges and blood-suckers of the District of Columbia attach themselves, lamprey-like, to their extremities and begin feeding. Entering office without a K Street Rolodex, new chief executives are forced to staff up by relying on the suggestions of others -- often, the very same politicians and consultants they defeated on their way to the White House.

And so the plot thickens. With the abrupt firing of former deputy FBI director Andrew McCabe on Friday, the end game of the struggle between president Trump and the "resistance" has now begun in earnest. As my PJ colleague, Roger Simon, noted here: From the FBI and across the intelligence agencies an astonishing number of people are going to find themselves accused, one can safely predict at this point, of some atrocious behavior in a free republic. And it will not just be the small change of Peter Strzok (the dimwitted director of counter-intelligence) and his gal pal Lisa Page.

Tuesday’s narrow win by Democrat Conor Lamb in a special congressional election in Pennsylvania has thrilled Democrats eager to believe that the entire country has finally seen the error of its ways and is about to remove the interloper Donald J. Trump, if not from power then at least from moral authority in the White House. This, they crow, is yet more proof of the “blue wave” that surely is coming in the fall, when the party of slavery, segregation, secularism, and sedition retakes the House of Representatives, re-installs Nancy Pelosi as speaker, and effects the Progressive Restoration in the

Just when you think the Left can´t get any worse, along comes Ruth Marcus, deputy editorial page editor of the Washington Post, with this gem: There is a new push in antiabortion circles to pass state laws aimed at barring women from terminating their pregnancies after the fetus has been determined to have Down syndrome. These laws are unconstitutional, unenforceable — and wrong. This is a difficult subject to discuss because there are so many parents who have — and cherish — a child with Down syndrome. Many people with Down syndrome live happy and fulfilled lives.
