The Wipeout of Obama’s Legacy
Weekly Standard, by Fred Barnes

Original Article

President Obama’s legacy is rapidly vanishing. The decision by President Trump to withdraw from the nuclear deal with Iran is the biggest blow, but it’s only the latest. The elimination of the individual mandate and canceling the yearly bailout of insurance companies have left Obamacare in a precarious condition. Young immigrants whose parents brought them to the United States unlawfully—so-called dreamers—are losing their legal status. This is historic. Presidents often vow to wipe out big chunks of their predecessor’s legacies. President Eisenhower was going to take on the New Deal. Ronald Reagan targeted the Great Society. Both backed down. Trump, working

The author does a good job of explaining why Obama´s legacy has been almost completely wiped out (and almost certainly will be completely wiped out if Trump wins a second term). However, he does something else, he points out why Trump´s accomplishments WON"T be wiped out by his successor: they are politically impossible to reverse.

When you believe you´re too important to negotiate with Republicans to enact actual legislation, and determined your "pen and paper" was the avenue you´d take instead, it´s easily changed with someone´s different pen and paper.

Obama´s only legacy piece is a failed Obamacare that only increased costs for everyone involved, that even liberal blue states abandoned quickly.

He never had even one of his own budgets approved and enacted.

But, boy did he travel, live the high life, entertained and played golf. Oh, and Michelle and her mother were also world travelers, on the taxpayer dime.

The SPLC Has Its Nose Rubbed in the Dirt

Few left-wing pressure groups are as vicious and mendacious as the Southern Poverty Law Center. Founded in 1971, the SPLC today mainly exists to smear opponents of full-spectrum progressivism as “bigots” and “extremists.” Once the Montgomery, Alabama-based outfit mislabels an individual or an institution this way, it becomes nearly impossible to clear the taint, since many reporters mistake the SPLC for a bona fide rights watchdog. So it’s good to see the SPLC held to account for at least one of these smears. On Monday, the group publicly apologized to Maajid Nawaz and agreed to pay his organization, the Quilliam

For the first time since the election of 1984, the Left is on the run and they don’t like it one bit. Back then, they had been stunned when the ignorant, trigger-happy cowboy Ronald Reagan upset Jimmy Carter in 1980; a man they were absolutely sure had almost no chance to win the presidency instead beat the incumbent rather handily. But they were devastated when Reagan crushed Walter Mondale in 1984 in one of the mightiest popular and electoral landslides in American political history. It just could . . . not . . . be . . . that Reagan

Until recently it was possible to discern a policy-based ideology of elitism. It was the establishment consensus around the benefits of globalization, automation, centralization and uncontrolled immigration. Over the past few decades, this elitist policy agenda was implemented regardless of actual election outcomes. Republicans and Democrats alike encouraged trade deals and financial deregulation that replaced corporate America’s primarily local and national economic outlook with a global one. Technology was unleashed on the American workplace with no thought given to the wrenching transition this would cause and the massive scale of retraining needed to enable our workforce to cope with it. The new Justice Department inspector general´s report on the FBI´s handling of the Clinton email scandal is 568 pages long, but for Trump supporters it can be reduced to a single phrase: "Told ya so." For months, Team Trump has claimed that the Department of Justice under Barack Obama was motivated by politics when it came to investigating Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. And while some on the Right have stretched that premise out to the "Deep State Conspirators Use UFO Tech To Erase DOJ Data" extreme, the IG report makes it clear that the Loretta Lynch/James Comey/Andrew McCabe DOJ

The Justice Department’s tepid OIG report, with its risible assertion that there was no political bias in the FBI’s Clinton email probe, suggests that it was written by people afraid to tell the unvarnished truth about the conduct of the federal government’s police apparatus, an agency that openly defies congressional oversight and has participated in a vendetta against a sitting president. The FBI’s leadership clearly hopes that the Democrats will win majorities in Congress and put a halt to the investigations into its multifarious abuses of power. The OIG is loath to face the ruthless reprisals that would inevitably follow

Then-Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe tasked the mistress of lead agent Peter Strzok to stay appraised of the probe into Hillary Clinton’s private server — a decision that other bureau officials took issue with at the time, according to the Department of Justice Inspector General’s bombshell report. McCabe was supposed to be insulated from the probe by two levels of management: Strzok worked for counterintelligence head Bill Priestap, who worked for national security head Michael Steinbach, who reported up to McCabe. However, Strzok communicated about the probe with his mistress, Lisa Page, who worked directly for

Reporters discovered that children are cared for by trained professionals and are kept in relatively good conditions, but that hasn’t stopped some commentators from likening the shelters to “concentration camps.” (Snip)Conway told NBC’s Chuck Todd that she was disgusted by the comparison and but agreed that “nobody

The undergrads were buzzing with their impressions. Chicopee is about 90 miles west of their prestigious university in Cambridge, but when it comes to shared experience, it might as well have been 1,000 light years away. Most cities, counties, and states in this country cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). When they’re about to release someone in criminal custody who is wanted for deportation, they let ICE know. But Philadelphia calls itself a ‘sanctuary city’ because it refuses to do this. Philadelphia is not giving “sanctuary” to Americans — it’s giving sanctuary to foreign criminals. At their root, sanctuary policies are a rejection of immigration law. If you won’t deport somebody who came here illegally and then committed another crime, then whom will you deport? Nobody. It cannot be that someone who illegally

This presents a problem for ABC, which canceled her revived show but wants the show to return in some form because it had high ratings. The apparent solution is to create a new show focused on the daughter character "Darlene," which would exclude Roseanne. Illegal Immigration: The latest outrage by the Trump administration is its policy of "ripping" children away from parents who´ve crossed the border illegally. As with so many other things involving Trump, there´s plenty of emotion but precious little in the way of facts. The furor reached critical mass after the Department of Homeland Security said on Friday that 1,995 children had been separated from their illegal border crossing parents from mid-April through May. That number included, DHS said, cases where the adults were arrested for illegal entry, immigration violations, or possible criminal conduct. The practice has generated a rising storm of protests,
