Bush-bashing professor has Fresno State

A Fresno State professor who called the late Barbara Bush “racist” soon after her death Tuesday, and said she was glad “the witch is dead,” continues to face fallout as donors mull ceasing donations to the institution. Randa Jarrar, an English professor at the school (also known as California State University at Fresno), sparked outrage Tuesday just hours after the former first lady died at age 92, writing a number of tweets attacking Bush and the family. “Barbara Bush was a generous and smart and amazing racist who, along with her husband, raised a war criminal. Okay, let us suppose some Fresno Prof lost his liberal mind and said something like "Hillary Clinton is not a female!" ofr, "Abortion is murder, plain and simple!" or "Donald Trump is doing a fine job as President." or, "Black Lives Matter is a fascist organization full of racists and haters!"

Do you suppose they would still be screaming for "Academic Freedom" to protect such "Free Speech"? Hmmm?

From what I´ve seen, Jarrar thinks a lot of herself. It would only follow that she´d have plenty of disdain for those not her.

I suspect she´s come to realize she´s stepped in it. I´ll also guess she´s dealing with her new levels of anxiety by binge eating.

Faculty hiring is usually done by committee. Having served on such committees, I have had to protect my school by knocking such applicants out of the process.
No one did that in this case.

Fresno State and the rest of academia needs to reevaluate this whole idea of tenure. We also need to reevaluate lifetime appointments for judges. AS this shows, when you get a bad one, of which there are an increasing number, the concept of tenure works against a civil society... then they laugh and spit in your face.

Sorry to say, this vicious nut has credentials that are highly desired in academia. Her personality would not be enough to put a search committee off. I have seen this, and in one case it was the chief diversity officer who stepped in to try to save such a nut when the committee had already selected someone else. The dean was forced to offer the nut another position in order to get approval for the desired candidate. Fortunately another institution offered the nut more money.

Yes, the world has turned upside down.

The professor has “free-speech rights”? Do the students?

Additionally, the president of the university said that what prof said was intolerable and that they are working through “the complexities“ of this issue. What is so complex? The woman has the character of a gnat and should be fired . She should never have said that she “couldn’t be fired.“ Anybody can be fired if the motivation is there.

I would encourage everyone to use the video link provided by #14 (thank you, #14).

Fresno State personnel knew who she was and hired her and they see and hear her every day. They have heard and know of her mindset. The only reason that the Administration is "outraged" now is because their financial largesse is being threatened.

That some donors wish to take time to think about the situation and their gifts, says as much about them as it does about her.

It is easy to corrupt the greedy man. It is another to corrupt a heroic man. Yet within each of us lurks a dark corner that, unless we implore God to shine His light into it, can corrupt us.
