Major names on Wall Street and in the Republican establishment are buying into Mitt Romney´s run for Senate, particularly as Republican lawmakers are looking to him as a future leader within a congressional caucus that is struggling to find its identity. According to first-quarter filings, Romney has been quietly receiving the financial backing of some of the most powerful names and donors in Republican circles, such as former Goldman Sachs CEO and Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson. The early contributions are not necessarily big, but they indicate a coordinated effort to push the former Massachusetts governor and presidential

Stronger leadership means an escalation of war on any Conservatives remaining in Congress and increased efforts to defeat any Conservative challengers to the establishment. They want Mittens bad and the more they want him the more we have fight to keep that from happening. Fight’s on.

Former first lady Laura Bush tore into the Trump administration for separating migrant families at the border, calling the “zero tolerance” policy “cruel” and “immoral.” Bush penned an op-ed for the Washington Post, which was published Sunday night as public outcry over the hundreds of children in detention centers intensified. “I live in a border state,” Bush wrote. “I appreciate the need to enforce and protect our international boundaries, but this zero-tolerance policy is cruel. It is immoral. And it breaks my heart.” Bush’s commentary comes as more images and accounts from inside the detention centers have

“There is no Republican Party. Conservatives tend to be skeptical of joining great political movements because they tend to be skeptical of both politics and movements that are great. They prefer the little platoon, the shire, which they know to be safe—or at least probably safer than what lies beyond. Not all politics may be local, but all politics that isn’t local tends toward the totalitarian, however far short of it it may actually fall. That sounds almost like a philosophy of government—though not a government that any American alive today has experienced. But times can change, and they have with the election of Donald Trump.

Salt Lake City - Mitt Romney, a candidate for U.S. Senate in Utah, is set to host his annual gathering of top Republicans, wealthy political donors and powerful business leaders. The guest list at the three-day, invitation-only event beginning Thursday in Park City, Utah, is largely under wraps, but Gov. Gary Herbert has it on his schedule. U.S. House Speaker Paul Ryan, who is addressing business leaders in the area at a separate event over the weekend, is also expected to attend the summit. The gathering at Stein Eriksen Lodge has traditionally been a summit of Romney allies closed to the public.

The rallies began peacefully and escalated with shoving, a small bonfire on the antifa side of the gatherings and punches thrown. Portland police stepped in to quell the fights and asked people to stay away from the area as Patriot Prayer supporters started marching. McCarthy’s conspiratorial, bullying, blunderbuss anti-Communism and “red-baiting” was either defensible or it wasn’t. Remarkably, for many on the right, the question of whether you were “with” McCarthy almost completely crowded out the question of whether or not you were right-wing or left-wing, Democrat or Republican, or even where you stood on the question of Communism itself.
