Winners of the 2018 Pulitzer Prizes were announced at Columbia University in New York City on Monday. The Pulitzers are highly revered and mark the best in journalism in 14 categories. Neil Brown, Poynter´s president, is a member of the Pulitzer Prize board. While he said he can’t discuss last week´s deliberations, he offered: “It’s clear that good reporting by one newsroom helps generate even more good journalism by others. We need more reporters working on stories to bring matters to light, and in doing so that puts more power in the hands of citizens. "Journalism is not optional in a democracy and

As usual most awards went to NY Times and Wapo so Pulitzer should be renamed Fake News awards.

Award for the NYT, was expected as is the shameless hypocrisy behind it. The Times had known for years what the slimeball Winestein was up to. But never uttered a word as he was a confidant and buddy of Bonnie and Clyde. The moment they saw an opportunity to strike at a perceived Trump vulnerability, they threw him under the bus. This is risible yellow journalism. People who laud and reward such practice are even more despicable.

One award went for reporting on the HEROIN epidemic (not opiod epidemic.)
One award went to reporting on ´brutal´ war on drugs in the Philippines.
Is there any sense of irony there??
I consider the Pulitzer to be as valuable as the Nobel peace prize.

What are the Pulitzers coming to- Just anti-Trump, anti-gun and "The Plight of Women in a hated Male world"? That´s pretty chicken of them.

Yes, it´s supportive of the Falun Gong movement but you won´t find more detailed and behind-the-scenes articles on China. And they have been doing excellent series of articles on the opioid crisis and the southern border and illegals, and MS-13.

As President Trump continues to stumble past his press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin earlier this week, Republican voters are handing him a lifeline. Though many GOP lawmakers have been critical of the president´s statements in Helsinki, party voters are registering their support for Trump´s handling of Putin. According to a CBS News poll released Thursday, 68 percent of Republicans approved of the president´s performance, even as 55 percent of voters overall, including 53 percent of independents, disapproved. And a Reuters/Ipsos poll released Tuesday found that 71 percent of Republicans approved of Trump´s handling of Russia even as more

Do you know Saul Alinsky? He was the mentor of most of the leading liberal politicians of our time- including Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. Alinsky was a radical Marxist strategist and community organizer. His leading "weapons" were weapons of mass distraction: misinformation, radical protest and blaming the other guy for whatever you (the liberal politician or activist) are guilty of. Alinsky actually counseled radical leftists to look in the mirror and whatever you see, blame the other guy for doing or being that exact same thing. So, if you’re a crook, blame the other guy for being a crook. If you’re

Mystifying. After announcing their intention to force Democrats to confront a radical idea gaining traction among their base, House Republicans are reportedly walking away from the plan -- for reasons that strike me a bit confusing. "Abolish ICE" is an ascendant litmus test for the Democratic Party´s left-wing base, attracting sufficient support as to inspire hilarious backflips from craven panderers with presidential ambitions. Some "progressives" went so far as to file a bill to dismantle the immigration enforcement agency. The GOP plan, based on widespread reports, was to give Democrats a chance to actually vote on their colleagues´ (will unpopular)

Senator Chuck Schumer says he knows why President Trump ended up picking Judge Brett Kavanaugh for the Supreme Court. Mr. Schumer, according to the dispatch in the New York Post, is “worried” about Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller’s probe and reckons Judge Kavanaugh would be a “barrier” to the investigation. All we can say is that if it’s true, it’s the best of the many wonderful things people are saying about Judge Kavanaugh. The judge has certainly been in the thick of the fight to defend separated powers, which are so threatened by the very concept of independent (and special) counsels. Since the presidency of

Zyler, wearing rainbow leggings, scrutinized a pair of hot-pink-and-purple sneakers. Kadyn, in a T-Rex shirt, fixated on a musical cube that flashed colorful lights. Unfortunately for her media boosters, however, she keeps blowing her lines. It’s not just her rote advocacy of single-payer healthcare and guaranteed government jobs, or even that she backs wacky ideas like abolishing ICE and occupying airports — Ocasio-Cortez is genuinely clueless. She outed herself, in several recent interviews, as functionally illiterate in economics, international relations, and history.

Beating your wife is worse than protesting during the national anthem. So, too, is sexually assaulting a woman. While that might seem obvious, it needs to be clarified given The Associated Press´ report Thursday that the Miami Dolphins are now including protesting during the anthem on their list of "conduct detrimental to the club." Under NFL rules, that´s an offense punishable by a suspension of up to four games. The Dolphins later told the AP that "all options are still open." But to give you an idea of how heinous at least one NFL team sees trying to draw attention to racial and economic inequality, a four-game suspension is

Before the word "resignation" became a euphemism for being fired, it connoted a sense of public integrity and personal honor. Attorney General Elliot Richardson and his deputy, William Ruckelshaus, showed both qualities when they resigned from the Nixon administration during the Saturday Night Massacre in 1973. Jimmy Carter’s secretary of state, Cyrus Vance, did likewise when he resigned during the Iran hostage crisis in 1980. Assuming Mike Pompeo and John Bolton still have their own senses intact, they, too, should resign following the epic disgrace of the U.S.-Russia summit inHelsinki on Monday. So should their senior staff. I don’t suggest
