Chopped romaine lettuce grown in the Yuma, Arizona, area is to blame for a multistate E. coli outbreak, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Friday. "At this time, no common grower, supplier, distributor, or brand has been identified," the CDC said. So far 35 cases of E. coli illness in 11 states have been reported and linked to the outbreak. The earliest symptoms began on March 22. Twenty-two of the ill individuals have been hospitalized. Three of those patients developed a type of kidney failure associated with an E. coli illness called hemolytic uremic syndrome, which can

Earlier post from CDC was rejected for not being from a news site. But it seemed like a worthwhile report, so here it is, from a (koff koff) news site.

More evidence for my theory that vegetables are evil. As Doug M. would say on Forged in Fire, "They will Kiiilll!"

(I am proud of my lifetime record; no vegetable has knowingly crossed my lips since I was four. I knew a scam when I heard one, even back then.)

In mexico we always soaked ALL veggies in a readily available (microdyne) rinse as did all the locals. (Mexicans dont enjoy being sick any more than gringos.) In ten years eating street food, the only time I ever got sick was in restaurants that didnt bleach their cutting boards. Always be aware, the worker cutting/packing your lettuce might not be the healthiest guy on the planet. He´s also probably a long ways from the local bano.

#3 I grew my own basic stuff for years.
Gave it up, just not worth the time effort and cost on a small scale. When my tomatoes come in, so do everybody’s. Can’t give them away. Same with corn, zucchini, beans, cucumbers etc.
Large scale gardening and canning is a different story, but for me,small scale is a waste of time.

Illegal immigrant labor is cheap because they do not have to walk anywhere to take bathroom breaks.

The last time this happened in a significant way they were able to track it to the specific farm.

E. coli no doubt brought to this country by illegals working on farms and crapping in the fields just like they did in their former domicile Mexico.

In the food trucks they use a bucket by the drivers seat, or the sink, but in the field they just drop trou where they are and fertilize while picking.

One solution to income inequality is giving out free cash, according to the British billionaire entrepreneur Richard Branson. “A basic income should be introduced in Europe and in America,” Branson told David Gelles of The New York Times. Branson was responding to the question, “What do you think those in positions of power should do to address social problems like income inequality?” In a report published in January, the global charity Oxfam found that 82 percent of the growth in global wealth in the previous year went to the top 1 percent of individuals ranked by riches. Meanwhile, the bottom

Geneva - Poverty in the United States is extensive and is deepening under the Trump administration whose policies seem aimed at removing the safety net from millions of poor, while rewarding the rich, a U.N. human rights investigator has found. Philip Alston, U.N. special rapporteur on extreme poverty, called on U.S. authorities to provide solid social protection and address underlying problems, rather than “punishing and imprisoning the poor”. While welfare benefits and access to health insurance are being slashed, President Donald Trump’s tax reform has awarded “financial windfalls” to the mega-rich and large

Christian Bales, the valedictorian of Holy Cross High School in Crestview Hills, Kentucky, was barred from delivering his graduation speech on Friday. Instead, he delivered it after the graduation ceremony, outside of the school on a megaphone. After reading a copy of Bales´ speech, the school determined it was "political and inconsistent with the teachings of the Catholic church." (Snip) "I know they pointed out that the Parkland teens teach ideologies that apparently go against the Catholic faith, which I don´t agree with in my experience," Bales said, according to WKRC.

Astros closer Ken Giles just gave a new definition to "beating himself up." After giving up a go-ahead, three-run homer to Gary Sanchez, five hits and four runs in 1/3 inning of work Tuesday, Astros manager A.J. Hinch removed Giles from the game. Giles then proceeded to punch himself in the face. Seriously. Let´s check in with our old buddy Ken Giles! pic.twitter.com/wNWDNmIZE3 — Joe Giglio (@JoeGiglioSports) May 2, 2018 We´ve heard of closers being emotional, but this seems a little ridiculous. The Astros went on to lose to New York 4-0. The four-game series is now tied 1-1.

In the past few days, President Trump has given at least some Republicans reason to express displeasure over his relationship with Russia. First he performed a pathetic ritual of subservience before Vladimir Putin, standing beside the Russian leader — after a private meeting between the two, which no aides were permitted to attend — and dismissing the copious evidence of a Russian attack on the 2016 election in deference to Putin’s word. Then we learned that Putin had suggested that we make Americans available to the Kremlin for questioning, including Michael McFaul, the former U.S. ambassador to Russia, in exchange

SANTA BARBARA, Calif — From Malibu to Santa Cruz, wealthy people are blocking access to California’s publicly owned beaches. And no group has fought the public longer than the gated community of Hollister Ranch, about 130 miles north of Los Angeles. If President Trump wants to shut down the critics of his performance this week in Helsinki and strengthen U.S. national security, he can do so with one bold move: Announce he is moving out most U.S. forces currently stationed in Germany and sending them to Poland. The Polish government recently presented Trump with a formal proposal to move U.S. troops from Stuttgart, Germany, to a new permanent U.S. military base in Poland. Trump should take up Warsaw on this offer. Moving U.S. troops to Poland would a bold, historic decision on par with Trump´s decision to move the U.S. Embassy
