The Marine who became immortalized by playing a brutal drill sergeant in Stanley Kubrick’s “Full Metal Jacket” has died. R. Lee Ermey was 74. “It is with deep sadness that I regret to inform you all that R. Lee Ermey (“The Gunny”) passed away this morning from complications of pneumonia,” his manager Bill Rogers said in a statement posted to Mr. Ermey’s official Twitter account. “He will be greatly missed by all of us,” Mr. Rogers wrote. “Semper Fi, Gunny. Godspeed.” Statement from R. Lee Ermey’s long time manager, Bill Rogin: It is with deep sadness that I regret to inform you all that R. Lee Ermey

Comments:
This is one supporting actor, after seeing him in "Full Metal Jacket", that was easy to recognize in his future endeavors, just by his voice. Having been a Marine in Vietnam, he knew the "drill".

Rest in Peace, Brave Warrior.

I don´t often make definitive statements of "where" one goes when they "leave this world". I make an exception here. A good MARINE has reported for duty at an Eternal Duty Station.

Where does the author get the "brutal drill instructor" crap! He was turning a group of civilian wienies into basic Marines.

Some people brave enough to stand up to the hollywierd elites and the ´Rats end up with a knock on the door from their gestapo agents at the IRS or some other gov´t agency. Rest in Peace, Marine. Stanley Kubrick made two movies that fascinated me, Full Metal Jacket and Dr. Strangelove. No actor has every delivered a better performance than R. Lee Ermey. After seeing that movie I have never wanted to eat a jelly doughnut. Actors Jack Webb and Don Adams were also Marine Drill Instructors. Webb played one in a movie back when movie language had to be clean. Hard to visualize Don Adams as a DI. CapmarineTet68 was one of my favorite posters. His posts were always grammatically perfect and eloquent. Never knew his name was Kevin or anything about him. Thanks for informing me.

I was not a Marine. I was U.S. Army Airborne. I fought in Hue supporting Marines, though. What I saw them do, Superman would have had to screw up courage to do. Then I fought outside of Hue, with Marines supporting us. 101st Airborne was a tough unit. That was my outfit. But, I stood in awe of the United States Marines. When i see a retired Marine, I always walk up to them and offer my hand and tell them "Thank You". There is no doubt, I owe many of them my very life.

I know God blesses each and every Marine that reports to His call. There can be no finer examples of the spirit of real men. I firmly believe God puts us into life to gain experience and to learn all the wonderful things he wishes we would learn. Marines are His most shining examples of His plan at work.

R. Lee Ermey will be greatly welcomed. I know that one day I will be there with him. I will not be surprised to see him and God are on a first name basis.

R.I.P Sarge. You have earned it.

Kevin Coughlin, #20. He was a Marine who served in Vietnam. In his spare time he helped fellow veterans get through their troubles, and tried to bring them to the Lord through his ministry. There never could be a better LDotter than Kevin. I loved that man dearly--he was what I think I should be, if I live a good life.

"R. Lee Ermey, Profane Drill Sergeant in ‘Full Metal Jacket,’ Dies at 74"

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/04/15/obituaries/r-lee-ermey-dead-actor.html?

From the New York Times obituary: "The clever, if profane, tirades were of his own invention, Mr. Ermey told The New York Times in 1987. “It was terrifying to those actors,” he said of the invective he spewed. “My objective was intimidation.”

This is especially funny because actors often have no clue about what basic training till our honorable discharge was truly like. (Ironically, April 16th makes it 49 years since my discharge.) Watch R. Lee Ermey´s opening tirade from "Full Metal Jacket" below:

News that Special Counsel Robert Mueller has sent his gumshoes to Israel certainly does bring this matter full circle. The report is that they are looking into the activities of what the Jewish Telegraphic Agency news wire characterizes as “an Israeli-run social media firm that may have led a social media manipulation effort to help Donald Trump get elected.” Good luck to Mr. Mueller, is our sentiment. And, say, while he’s at it, maybe he can look into what the President Obama and his political operatives were doing in respect of the Israeli election of 2015. Remember that one? As President Clinton did in 1996, Mr. Obama threw everything

Alphabet ‘smart’ diaper notion

Alphabet, the parent company of Google, has filed for a patent via its Verily division that will tell parents, by way of technology, when their diapered babies have gone to the bathroom. This is a solid example of When Technology Goes Overboard. The world of parenting already has a notification procedure to alert when babies have gone poop. It’s called — crying. And on that, babies are generally pretty good at it. They cry when they’re wet; they cry when their diapers are soiled; they cry when they can’t sleep because their little bottoms have turned cold and uncomfortable from dried urine. As for the hard of hearing?

Giant predatory worms from tropical parts of Asia that have stealthily invaded French gardens pose a threat to local wildlife, scientists are warning. The voracious creatures have infiltrated gardens across the country and also French territories.
