How Paul Ryan lost the GOP
to Donald Trump

Washington Examiner, by David M. Drucker

The grassroots voters that fueled the extraordinary rise of House Speaker Paul Ryan spurned their erstwhile conservative hero for a new champion, President Trump, marking a generational shift in ownership and attitude of the Republican Party. A change in the philosophical predilections of the GOP has been blamed for this slow-rolling divorce, made official with Ryan’s announcement that he would step down as speaker and retire from Congress at year’s end after more than two decades in Washington. But irreconcilable ideological differences had little to do with it. The Republican base in the twilight of the Reagan era was hungering

FTA: Ryan has practiced an inclusive, civil brand of politics.

Ryan has practiced appeasement.

Ryan is part of the Uniparty, with about a 25-30% disagreement with the Dems. He´d support anything they want on open borders, for example.

That one issue, by itself, means I have trouble supporting him. Of course, all politics has to be tempered with "compared to what?", and certainly, Romney/Ryan would have been a bit better than Zero/Idiot Joe. But the differences are smaller than many think.

I wrote off Ryan when he gave Obama MORE money than Obama had asked for in Obama´s last budget proposal. For the most part, Trump is doing the things the GOPe have always talked of doing, but never got around to doing.

There is an article at NRO/the Corner by one Dan McLaughlin dated April 11 entitled "Paul Ryan´s Lost Opportunities on Spending". I know, I know - it´s NRO and all that, but it is (IMO) a very thoughtful piece including trenchant criticism not only of Ryan but of his conservative critics.

Worth posting (by someone how knows how to do that) and well worth a read. Ryan had his shortcomings, but those who easily trash him don´t have the full story.

Its not so surprising that the House and the Senate leadership are unwavering appeasers. After 12 years of the Bush appeasers. And then 8 years of an America hating gay Muslim mulatto which the media worshiped. And still does.

Many of us here are old enough to remember the real unwavering leadership of Reagan which his vp, Bush detested. And sought to overturn everything he did. ´Read my lips ...´.

And of course 0bama and his ´team´ were ready ´to rule from day one´. As he destroyed jobs and reversed a growing economy and led America bowing and crawling on his knees in foreign affairs as much as he could... with the media cheering him on of course. Now, Trump has reversed all that and the media hate him.

Screw the media and the leftists (of both partys). Which of course includes the so called ´progressives´.

Ryan, a member of the DC Uniparty, Republican Branch, is a big time supporter of amnesty for illegal aliens and most of the outside of DC Republican base is against Ryan’s stance on amnesty. Reportedly Ryan is now attempting to ram through an amnesty for millions of illegal aliens before he leaves Congress. Any DC Republican who supports Ryan on that issue should be primaried out during the run-up to the November election.

There is only one worse sin and that was Obama´s tactic. Say something that nobody could understand but were dumb enough to vote for you anyway and then do what you want.

Two months before the 2016 presidential election, the Claremont Review of Books published (in its digital pages) an essay that began: “2016 is the Flight 93 election: charge the cockpit or you die.” The author, Publius Decius Mus, a pseudonym for Michael Anton, who recently served as director of communications for the National Security Council, noted that “you may die anyway” because there were no guarantees except one: “if you don’t try, death is certain.” He allowed that his metaphor might strike many readers as “histrionic.” It did; but it struck many more as galvanizing, especially when Rush Limbaugh devoted

Conrad Black’s erudite biography of Donald J. Trump is different from the usual in mediis rebus accounts of first-year presidents. He avoids the Bob Woodward fly-on-the-wall unattributed anecdote, and “they say” gossip mongering. Nor is the book a rush-to-publish product from former insiders of the Trump campaign or administration. Instead, Black, a prolific and insightful historian, adopts the annalistic method in carefully tracing Trump’s earliest years in business through his various commercial misadventures, financial recoveries, and sometimes wild antics.
